04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

Spring is officially her this weekend - right? SPRING FORWARD?

We're already getting APRIL SHOWERS even though it's still march. High winds, and 3" of rain in 48 hours. All of this, after the 90" of snow has melted. I feel like I am already at sea!

We're not booked yet, but we're seriously thinking about the repo cruise (no B2B for us :guilty: It'll be me, my 13 yo son Max, and maybe a friend of his (poor DH gets to stay home -- someone has to make $s so that I can cruise :rolleyes1).

I'm not sure I can get through 59-odd pages of posts, but I'll try.

Per your title.. of course you are not too late to join! It's over a year away. We are also only on the repo cruise. I think due to the timing with Easter this will sell out. Already the cat 11 cabins are gone as well as many others. Go ahead and book. You can always change later. Welcome!:)

Yesterday I got my documents for Jamie's birthday cruise on the Wonder April 15th.

They are all new and different! It is pretty KEWL. It comes in a little booklet and it had listed on it a page showing all the stuff I have booked (like Palo's) that I had booked online through March 2nd.

It also showed that I had an on-board credit because the booking was done on board.

Of course, it also had the luggage tags and stuff. Much improved over the last document packages that were sent out in the past!

I received an e-mail from DVC earlier today ... which included a nice graphic / artist rendering of Aqua Duck (Disney Dream, January 2011). I am posting it online, in case anyone would like a copy for themselves. PM me if you would like me to e-mail it to you.

My first day posting as a DISboards fan!

DD (7 now, will be 8 by cruise time) and I are booked on the repo cruise, but not the inaugural Alaskan cruise.

I live in Victoria so if anyone needs any information about the port, fire away!

I recall seeing someone's post asking about the weather in late April. Victoria is actually the most temperate city in Canada with mild weather year round. Our gardens are in bloom by the end of April - no late May planting season for us!

Shhhhhhhh!!!!!! Don't tell anyone or else everyone will want to live here!

Great excursions in Victoria include:

Butchart Gardens - well worth the drive from town, the gardens are quite spectacular.

Beacon Hill Park - with children's petting zoo (small donation to get in) Putting green, children's play area, lots of small ponds, squirrels, ducks and the occasional turtle. Local tip - the Beacon Hill Drive In just across from Circle drive has the best soft serve ice cream.

BC Museum - Victoria is the provincial capital and the museum is actually quite good. Occasionally there are special exhibitions on loan from museums around the world.

Inner Harbour Ferry Tour - take on of the little green ferries on a Gorge or Inner Harbour tour. Check out Fisherman's Wharf, feed the seals and don't forget to eat at Barb's Fish & Chips, verrrrrry popular with the locals and tourists alike.

Tea at the Empress Hotel - I have done this personally and it really is quite an impressive meal and ceremony. Pricey but highly enjoyable. The exterior of the hotel is the quintessential Victoria landmark.

Undersea Gardens - not a great time killer but the kids love it. See local fish and marine life underwater (the viewing area is underwater off the inner harbour)

Roger's Chocolates - their downtown store is well worth a visit if you are a chocoholic. Not a big store but the interior has been designated a historical site. I like to just go in and breathe, the scent of fine dark chocolate is steeped right into the wood paneling.

There are other things to see and do depending on what floats your boat but I included the main ones that are very close to the cruise ship port (with the exception of Butchart Gardens but I have no doubt that Disney will be offering an excursion there)

Welcome lozzypop! It will be great to have your expertise at our disposal!

.

Welcome new cruisers, Victoria is a great City, and yes the Museum is one of the best I have ever been to, when I work at Mt Rainer NP it was where we would go for the weekends if not climbing or camping.

Lozzypop you brought many memories back, thanks and welcome.

Good Morning Cruisers!

Welcome new cruisers!

I am hoping we can swing a few days in Vancouver after the Alaskan cruise - then we will have time for some touring around!

Have a great week!

Hi Fellow Cruisers:)

I'm not sure if I have posted here before or if I have just lurked around in the past. We will be joining you for this cruise only, not the Alaskan one. It will be me, DH, DS (4), and my dad. My mom and step dad are possibly going too. My little brother lives in Seattle so we will be visiting him after the cruise.

I had planned on going to Disneyland before the cruise but I just noticed today that spring break falls on the week we are leaving. I am a little bummed about that. I have never been to Disneyland but I don't want to deal with massive crowds:scared1:

Good to meet you all. I have to go back and read through these pages.

Welcome aboard KandiB47! Glad you are joining us.

Got my cruise docs for the repo, and my booking date is Jan 27, while I'm on the Dream?

Is there a way to book while on board without suffering thru their horribly slow internet? That, plus I don't want to waste precious time exploring the dream by booking excursions at midnight.

Has any others encountered this and how have you handled it?

I thought about asking a friend to book for me. Is this allowed?

She is thinking of booking this cruise. She is a platinum member. If we link our reservations, can she book excursions for me at the earlier date or well she have to wait until my reservation date?

I know .. so many questions. Thanks in advance for your help!

399 days until the Repo cruise. We broke the 400 mark. When trying to make a dummy reservation online, I can't believe how few cabins are left! It is sure to be a fun cruise!:boat:

I'm looking forward to cruising some of the same coastline I worked while in the Coast Guard. I've been under the Golden Gate a few times before, but never on a ship like the Wonder.

I agree, it should be a fun cruise!
