So 77 Sleeps until Disney World was our 18th Wedding Anniversary. We went to dinner to celebrate, nothing fancy just Texas Roadhouse. We took our kids with us, we want to show them a good example of marriage. I hope we do every day of the year. Now that they are older we often get to date on a regular basis. It is nice, we do not have to worry about babysitters.
So we were married twice, the year we were married. I know you are curious so here is our story.
We were engaged on my birthday May 1995. We had a wedding date set of March 30 the following year.
My husband was a late in life baby for his parents, he is the youngest of 6 kids and was not expected but well loved always because of this his parents were much older.
His father passed away July 1995, from many health complications at 71. It really sadden my husband that his father would never see him get married or see his children.
His parents were so close, so it wasn't a surprise when his mother's health problems worsened and she ended up hospitalized in Jan 1996. We got word from the hospital that she wasn't going to make it and there were only a matter of days that she would live. She was coherent and able to talk to us but not for very long.
My husband was so upset that his mother would never see him get married either. So we decided to get married at the hospital in her room. We were able to arrange for our minister to come to the hospital, the nurse made flower bouquets, and we had all his brothers and sisters for witness. It was a touching moment that I am so glad we decided to do. We lined up around her bed so she could see, we said our vows and she raised her hands in congratulations. I will never forget it.
She passed away 2 days later.
We decided to go ahead with our planned church wedding. We already had everything booked and the invitations were sent out.
So we married again in March but the legal one is January. We always celebrate twice a year!!!
So that is our getting Married Twice in one year story!!
