ª"˜ª¤.¸Official Team May 2014 Thread!¸.¤ª˜"ª

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forums so I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section (please direct me to the right place otherwise). I came across this forum while researching for my first ever trip to Disney World (and USA for that matter) in May 2014. I have come across so many useful threads already and there is a wealth of information here.

However, I can't seem to find an answer to my question, which is about booking a Magic Your Way package and ADRs. My boyfriend and I are looking to stay on site (undecided which resort yet) and will be choosing a DDP.

I understand that ADRs open 180 days before but I noticed that on Mousesavers a package deal for general public with 15%-30% off room rates and discounted 4- to 10-day tickets was available in January.

Now, if I wait until the discounts are offered in January, I'm afraid we will miss out on ADRs. Does anyone know if there is a way around this?

Also, I noticed some people talking about PINS. What are they and how do you get them?

Thanks!

You do not need to wait to book your package until any deals for your booking period open. If you proceed with booking your package, you will have a far greater chance at being able to score those hard to get ADRs, and then when the deal becomes available to the general public (or Disney Visa cardholders, if this applies to you), you simply call Disney and apply the discount! Easy!

PINs are a Disney mystery as to how you go about getting them, they seem to be randomized. There are several things you can do that people hypothesize will increase your chances (order the planning DVD, create then save a package, or create then cancel a package while signed into your MDE app) but no one knows for sure. If a PIN gets assigned to your name, you will get an email or letter mailed to you with a 12 digit PIN. You can also call and see if there's one attached to your name! Good luck!!

Thanks so much for the info Caitlint, that's very helpful! Looks like we better get cracking on deciding which resort to book!

If you have any questions about whichever resort you're considering, or just want to hear what other people think about it, there are dedicated threads to each resort that go really in depth about the details! Very helpful! Have fun picking out your resort; planning is definitely part of the fun!!

Welcome! These boards are a wealth of information... pretty much any question you have can be answered here!

Like a previous poster said... you can certainly wait until discounts come out to book your trip, but MANY people will be on there at 180 days before to snatch up some of those coveted ADR's so the chances of getting one of those when you wait is less.

With that being said, if you book now, that doesn't mean you will miss out on the discounts and deals! You can book now, make your ADR's and then when discounts come out you can call and get them applied to your existing reservation! There are a lot of us anxiously awaiting the May discounts!

Good luck on deciding which great resort to stay at!

I couldn't see if it was mentioned anywhere & hopefully somebody will correct me if I am wrong. But you don't need to have booked your stay to reserve an ADR at 180 days. At 180 days the reservations open to the general public & you can book them. Having a package at Disney will give you the 180+10 days benefit but even if you choose to wait until January to book your package you can still make reservations at 180 days out.

You're right, but then you will have to get on daily and make the next days reservation when it becomes the 180th day. IMO it's much more convenient to be able to do it all at once.

And by the time your day 5-7 of a 7 day stay rolls around all of the other people that have booked their +10 already will have all ready booked BOG or 'Ohana, etc. for the best times. Hopefully there would still be some reservation slots left, but if I (and everyone else who booked their +10) got to book my last day of 7 days before you, odds are more in my favor than yours.

Since you can still call and get the discounts applied when they are released, I don't see what benefit there is to waiting unless you are strapped for cash. Everybody does it their own way, but I feel like more and more people are becoming educated about the 180+10 and I feel that may make it more difficult to get certain coveted ADR's if you're not booked at that time.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I think we will play it safe and make our resort reservation before the 180-day mark so we can take advantage of the 180+10 days. Fingers crossed that a discount will become available later!

Off to peruse the resort threads! Yay!

I'm joining this thread in the hopes that in the next couple of weeks we get a trip booked. We're keeping our fingers crossed for a May trip.

We've only ever done Feb, Sept and October. Most of our trips falling in September, so I have a few questions.

What is May like in comparison to Sept for weather & crowds? The in-laws are thinking of tagging along but they want to do October/November which we're reluctant to do because of getting time off from work.

Welcome to the May 2014 board. I have been to disney both during May and September/October months. Personally I love May better than September. But both have pros and cons. Let me write a list of pros and cons. (Gives me a reason to actually figure out which is better)

May at WDW
Pros
- SWW (end of May)
-Nice warm weather, not too hot and humid like summer at WDW. (So horrible)
- longer day time hours
-parks tend to be open later
-flower garden at Epcot

Cons
-Weekend crowd at Hollywood studios due to SWW (especially the first weekend)
- crowd level during memorial weekend is extreme

September/October at WDW
Pros
- MNSSHP
- meeting rare meet and greets at Halloween
-Food & Wine at Epcot

Cons
-weekend crowds at Epcot. (Food and wine)
- cooler weather (I live in Michigan we get plenty of it ;))
- parks close sooner

That's what I can think of right now. Anyone else want to pitch in?

We are also planning to head over to Universal/IOA (and stay onsite) for a couple of days and I wondered whether anyone knows how this will affect the Magical Express transportation back to the airport at the end of our trip? Will we need to book one more night at a WDW resort after Universal/IOA?

Hello All!

I am new here! Well apparently I registered for this in 2008 and I do not even remember so this is probably my first post. Anyway, back on track, I am excited to join this thread.

My fiance and I will be getting married this weekend and if we get enough money for our honeymoon, we will be doing it at Disney World, May 6-13, 2014. We plan to stay on property at the Coronado Springs. We will be doing each park and going to both Universal parks as well. This will be my third time to Disney World (both times were over 13 years ago) and my fiance's first time. We look forward to old rides, new ones, shows, and for me, meeting the characters. We have a coordinator helping set up our itinerary and I look forward to reading the inside scoop on this forum.

Has anyone booked airfare yet? SW is very high right now for the Spring. I sure hope the prices come down.

We booked our airfare yesterday. We're flying Southwest and got our flights for $332 round trip. We used points and had enough to cover all four of our flights though so that helps a lot with the trip expenses!! A few months beforehand they usually have "sales" so I'll be keeping an eye out for them to get some of our points back!

Just wanted to extend a big "Welcome!" to all of our new May Dis'goers! In case you didn't know, we have a Facebook group for all of us heading to Disney in May! It's a closed group, so if you're keeping your Disney mania in the closet you can be assured that your posts in the group won't be seen by the rest of your Facebook friends! Since it is a closed group you must request to be added, but myself and the rest of the admins will be more than happy to add you! The link is in Aatiff911's very first post of the thread or I added it here for your convenience! It's full of some great people... so come on in and join the fun!

$332 roundtrip...that seems high. I am hoping that next week they have some sort of special to drop the prices.

I know we are awhile away from our May trips but has anyone started thinking of priorities for FP+? I have been trying to get my wish list of together for ADRs and now I am also thinking of wish list for FP+.

Yeah, I think in the past from where I live they've had specials where they've dropped it down to $129 one way, right now it's $166 one way. I think in the past the prices didn't drop until a few months before our trip. So I'm thinking we probably won't see anything until February or March. I get the e-mails from Southwest, so as soon as I see anything I'll post it here!

My ADR wish list is done, but I haven't even begun to think about FP+ wish list! My in laws said that I could run with the ADR's and book whatever I thought was good... but I feel like I'm going to need to consult them on FP+!

What ADRs are you wishing for?

Yay!! MANY people, myself included :), have been awaiting this day! Ha ha!

Let's see... ADR's I'm hoping for are Akershus (lunch or dinner), Be Our Guest, Liberty Tree Tavern, Garden Grill, 'Ohana Best Friends Breakfast, 1900 Park Fare, 50's Prime Time, Via Napoli for DH and I's "date night" and Chef Mickey's for the in-laws and our daughters while we're on our "date", Hollywood and Vine Breakfast and 'Ohana dinner. Then we're also going to get a reservation for the Dessert Party!
