ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

What I was most surprised about is that Planes isn't a Pixar film, despite being a spin-off of Cars. It's being made by DisneyToon Studios, which usually makes direct-to-DVD films.
Yeah, it was originally supposed to go straight to DVD (which concerns me about the quality), but they decided to release it in theatres. Makes me think they will try to capitalize on the boys market by adding a Trains movie next. Here is a little blurb about it:

"Disney has decided to chase after Dreamworks’ Turbo next summer with its movie “Cars-inspired” movie: Planes. Disney has just announced it will release this film theatrically on August 9th, 2013. Originally designed to go direct-to-DVD, Planes will now play in theatres all over the U.S. with Jon Cryer is voicing the lead plane, “Dusty”; Klay Hall (Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure), an aviator himself, is directing."

My DS is 6. I'm sure some of the humor went over his head, but overall good movie. :-)

I saw kids of all ages at the theatre. There weren't any alcohol jokes that I can remember. Being a university student myself, I definitely got a kick out of the parody of college life, but nothing was inappropriate for kids.

Perhaps I am cranky but my answer would be "because I save for it" and I would leave it at that. People can speculate all they want. I don't care if they think I robbed a bank or sold a kidney. My bank account is my business:rotfl:

I TOTALLY love this answer!! I get rude people who ask me how I can afford Disney with a medically complex child. Well, just like everyone else--I save my butt off!! I don't understand why in the world people are SO rude!!!

Wow theres a ton of updates since i was here last!

Flooding is finally receding in the big city, they brought our Army in to assist. The Mayor has cancelled school here for two days and we've been told the gr 7-8's exams are cancelled! So my grade 3er has probably two days left before summers on!

Welcome to all the new joiners!

Jonsmom- glad your son is doing well, we'll continue to pray he gets that port out for your trip!

We get the "you're going again" from tons of people... Our response is always "yep we live disney"

Its getting closer now! I've got most of the autograph book embellishments done for now, we have t-shirts on order, and will be getting a couple more made. I need to book in hair appointments and start packing so i don't forget anything lol...

If i missed anything in this update -sorry lol you guys move fast!

AACK, I need to catch up! After posting this I will go back and read what I've missed. I can't keep up! :upsidedow

Two Questions I have for everyone. I know this probably isn't the best place to post them, but I thought I'd give you all a shout instead of starting a new thread where maybe no one will read it.... (I know we get plenty of readers here!).

1) Can a Photopass Photographer put photos they take on two (or more) Photopass Cards? We are traveling with two other friends' families and if we have group shots or photos with all our kids, I know we would all want to have them. Can we each have our Photopass card scanned to get the shots, or only one of us?

2) Anyone have space on an Illuminations Cruise for Aug. 11, 15, 16, 18, 19, 21 or 22? I just found out about this and am sure I have missed the boat (haha) on trying to reserve one but wondered if anyone has room for 2A 3C we would love to join. I saw that there is a thread for this but they are into November already and I thought that since this is an August thread I could ask about it here just in case. If not, no biggie --- there's always next time! :thumbsup2

Thanks all!
KSL

PS - Humidity here is HORRIBLE today! DH complained after letting the dog out for 30 seconds (even the dog didn't want to stay out). My cheerful suggestion that we should all go for a long walk around the neighborhood to get used to it for Disney was not get met with favorable responses. :rotfl:

Yep, here too!!!! I got the stink eye from my fellas after innocently inquiring if anyone wanted to join me for Sunday stroll around the neighbourhood. :rotfl2:

Wow this group is so active! Wish I had realized you were all here when we first book a month ago, lol, so not us. We typically book at 11months with DVC but this trip was a more because Frontier is coming to our local airport and fares were affordable so 'lets go to Disney'! Who says no to that.

We were originally going to do 'no parks' but they hubby who LOVES Epcot said we have to go there, and I added if we are going there we have to see the new Fantasyland and so it went until we ended up with five day passes (I don't do hoppers) from UT (thankfully before the prices went up). So we have two no park days.

DH is ALWAYS reading multiple books at one time (I get too confused) and I mentioned why doesn't he save one and take it to Disney and his comment was 'There is no time to read in Disney' 'We always are on the go". So I have two tours booked and I'm thinking we are going to do something we've never done. Sleep in on some of the other days and go to the park later. If that plan doesn't work, we will go to the park early and then back to SSR for some pool and down time before dinner and back to the park. I picked up restaurant dot com vouchers to use a two different places to eat (near SSR) so dinner won't be as expensive. We are meeting friends at Boma one night and other than that, not other ADR's.

It's hot and muggy here too (and my pug wants to go out in it and she can't breathe but still wants to go out, I have to carry her in). It's been years since we've done Disney in August, but my thought, hot and muggy in Disney is better than hot and muggy at home!

Let's see if I can get all of these responses organized to make some sense. I wanted to respond yesterday but I was driving 19+ hours back home. :drive:

That is so true - and I wish more people realized it!! I have so many people that ask me how we can afford Disney every year because "it's so expensive". I try to tell them that you can go on a budget, but no one seems to believe that :confused3 On our first few vacations, we stayed at the value resorts and kept our totals under $2,000. Our latest vacations have become more pricey :rolleyes1, but that's our choice.

We invited both of our families to come and were told by quite a few how rude it was to expect people to have that kind of money. We just used part of our tax return so we feel like we're going for free :)
This is definitely a budget trip. Our next trip won't be until the kids are older so we'll splurge more then!

ITA! I also refuse to go into to debt for vacations (as much as I love them). I would much rather make payments throughout the year then to come home and still owe Disney.

I am able to enjoy our trips so much more when it's all paid for before we go.:cool1:

Yup, that's our philosophy too ::yes:: .

We even price in a contingency fund to our overall budget to cover the unexpected stuff that might occur (nothing like prepping for a disaster on your vacation.....but yet, I do :scratchin) . If we don't end up needing it during our getaway, its the down payment for the next trip :thumbsup2 .

Isn't that the truth. I think a lot of people just assume it's too expensive. It doesn't have to be. I know if some of the people who go to the beach every year added up ALL of their expenses, they could pay for a very nice Disney trip for the same amount.

Perhaps I am cranky but my answer would be "because I save for it" and I would leave it at that. People can speculate all they want. I don't care if they think I robbed a bank or sold a kidney. My bank account is my business:rotfl:

We've long been in the habit of planning trips around a year in advance. We've gone to Vegas, Disney, Europe, etc and have invited friends and family to join us repeatedly. When we say "we're going to X on vacation next year, do you want to join us?" they act like we're crazy for planning so far in advance, then when it gets closer they say they don't have the money or time. Well we gave you a year to plan and save for it so unless something came up because then and now you really have no excuse other than a) you didn't want to go or b) you weren't responsible enough to plan for it.

We also pay cash for everything so our vacation doesn't follow us home. We utilize credit cards as a means to track things or get some discounts but we never carry a balance for anything.

This year, when we were looking at vacations we looked at a range of things. Beach, SoCal, NorCal, Destin, Mexico, etc. Everything was more expensive (partially due to airfare) than Disney. We found awesome airfare for Disney (which helped a lot), we don't have to rent a car and we can go for as long or as short as we'd like. We utilize the DDP which may or may not save money, but it does allow us to know a fixed cost for meals in advance. We stay at a value resort and do what we can to minimize costs without taking the fun out of the trip.

I know we're blessed to be able to go as often as we have, but we do plan our budget so we can do it. I think just about anyone, regardless of income level, can plan a trip (maybe not yearly) if they applied themselves and used some restraint the rest of the time so they can save.

I'm about to create a facebook group for our trip next year to get everyone together for this multi-family trip that we'd like to do. It'll be interesting to see how people respond to it.

I do have some news, actually. We haven't been in the hospital since that last VERY lengthy stay. That, in itself, is wonderful. We did get news last week that the rejection was worse and they did some labs immediately. We got those results back and they were "the best" they've been since this odyssey began in March! I think the really bad ones were lab error. So, it's *possible* he could get the catheter out of his chest before Disney!! THAT would be AWESOME because then he could swim and go on water rides. In August, that would be a MUST!! So we keep holding out hope that rejection is on the run and that he will continue to get better!!

Thanks for all the prayers, happy thoughts, and pixie dust!!!

Awesome news! Hopefully it continues to get better for him! :yay:

We are driving

We are too!!! For some reason I thought you were flying...We leave the night of the 29th (talked DH into driving straight through to save hotel cost and also get half of the trip done while the kids are asleep since DD is not as much of a seasoned traveler as DS...less time for her to be awake and cranky). :-)

I saw a rumor today that doesn't interest me or my son, but it might interest some of you, Sofia The First could be doing meet & greets at some point in July:confused3, It didn't say it would be permanent or anything about August, using words like "could " and "at some point"it could just be a rumor and nothing more, but it's something to keep a eye on:magnify:

So according to my ticker, there is exactly 2 months to go until our summer trip!:cool1: 8 weeks and 5 days to go.
The crazy thing about that is that my kids aren't even done school yet! DD has her last exam tomorrow and ds9 finishes on Thursday.
He is really glum because his very best friend in the world is moving away over the summer. It's so sad to see him so upset about it. And it's far too. She'll be 3 hours away:(. He's going to a new school next year for French Immersion, and he has lots of friends but these two have been best buddies since Kindergarten and I know he'll miss her terribly. So it will take us a few weeks to get into the groove of summer with him. Even the thought of Disney isn't making him too cheery right now. I've promised him they can email and talk on the phone. We'll do our best to make sure they stay in touch. She's the sweetest little tomboy and they were such good pals. I feel so bad for him. It will be ok and it's good that he's switching schools next year and won't be reminded every day that she isn't there. I hate it when my kids are sad.

39 days til Disney!! (36 until we hit the road!) SO excited!!! And the kids still don't know!! Woohoo!!!
