ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

Ponchos and glow sticks (bracelets, etc) are at our dollar store nearby. I've also seen glow sticks at target recently, in the dollar spot. Maybe left over from the 4th of July?

I have a back pack, in it I am planning to carry: 4 ponchos, 2 water bottles , 1 phone, 2 cameras , snacks, 2 cooling cloths, 1 sun screen, comb, kids hats/my hat when on rides, KTTW card, glow sticks for night, change of clothes for DD7. Will I have space to carry mister fans? Think I have enough already right? Plus God forbid I buy anything lol.

I don't think you will have room for fans, lol! I am going to miss the stroller this year. But each of my kids will have their own cinch sac to carry just their water.

I have 2 possible bags to carry. My camera, video camera-but I won't take them all the time just most of the time. Phone, 1-2 water bottles filled and an extra bottle to split amunst us (we do a mid day break) and that is it. Dh will carry the keys/pH in his wallet.

I haven't used a mister fan yet in Disney. I do have them and my kids used them at six flags but I think it was more the novelty then anything.

I won't carry rain ponchos unless there is a thread of rain.

Isn't that every day in Florida? Especially in August? ;-)

Haha!! We get the 99 cent ones at Walmart. Nice and tiny to carry. My daughter is 3, almost 4. I know this will be our last stroller trip. She barely used it last time but I still need the storage :)

This is why I'm glad we still need a stroller lol.

A stroller would totally be handy for all the stuff! I'm currently questioning the cross body bag I bought...don't think it's going to be big enough as I also just got a bigger camera. No stroller for me though because I have no kids...that would look a little weird lol.

Yes but if it looks like it is going to pour for hours.

I remember year ago we were at river country and it was pouring, so we left with many others. Got on the boat and it was sunny at the poly.

I am trying to carry minimal.

This made me laugh! Whenever my mom goes to an amusement park, the zoo, science center, etc, she brings an old umbrella stroller (from when the grandkids were little) and puts all her "stuff" in it. She doesn't want to pay for a locker, and likes to have everything handy. We tease her, but she's always the one to come through with something we forgot ;)

Does anyone have a PTR going for their trips? Or is there a place that lists all the PTRs? In our April group we had a list of everyone's PTRs and then started a thread for all the TRs too. :) I'd love to read along if anyone has one!

(oh, and shameless plug, if you are interested feel free to check out my April TR from our stay at Bay Lake Tower...link is in my signature). ;)

My PTR in my sig line is a disgrace to PTRs. I started strong and then abandoned the poor thing. I don't think I'm cut out for that kind of commitment lol. But I like reading others!

I don't know about everyone else but I'm getting more excited...and nervous by the day. We've done August the past couple years and I'm usually so on the ball by now, usually have ponchos packed, some surprise gifts for the kiddies and things like that. Not this year! Out of nowhere I've had bad anxiety & panic attacks for the past couple weeks and can't figure out why. Now I'm making myself crazy about the flight, I've never loved flying but there's too many placed I want to see to let it hold me back. But the thought of getting on a plane now is pretty scary. I'm also having issues in crowded/confined spaces, great thing to happen before you go to Disney. I'm really trying to put my issues aside a focus on the fact that we'll be having quality family time in Disney.

I'm sorry you are feeling anxious. Try to focus on where the anxiety is truly coming from. It's possible that because in the past you had already gotten things together and because you are behind now you are fearing the trip won't be as good. The fact that there was a plane crash last week is going to up everyone's fears at this point too. Just tell yourself logically it's safer than driving. Sometimes these anxieties are easier to deal with if you can pinpoint the underlying root of the problem. As for crowds, plan some quiet places you can slip off to in the parks ahead of time and know they are there...even if its a first aid station or something like that.

Well said! I agree... sometimes I get stressed about totally unrelated things when I don't feel I have prepared for something.

Btw: thanks for the driving vs flying (we're driving) ;) LOL!!!

This question was finally posed to me yesterday by my 5 year old! I came through with a big "I don't know... but I'll try to find out!" :confused3 So I'm looking to my August friends for help...what did you tell your kids when they were still young enough to believe but smart enough to figure out that something was up??! Need help because there's NO WAY I'm letting the magic die even a little bit yet!:wizard:

They are like Toy Story toys, they can only talk when people leave the parks.;)

Whenever I get questions like this, I let the child come up with the answer. I'll say, "Hmmm....that's a good question. What do you think?" Usually they come up with their own creative reason, and we leave it at that! It may seem like an easy way out, but I've found that sometimes adults come up with explanations that are more confusing or elaborate than needed.

Hi everyone - I JUST found this thread and I'm so glad I did!

My husband, 1.5 year old daughter, and I will be going to Disney for our first family vacation this August. We actually switched it from a December vacation last month so we were really behind in Dining Reservations. Here's the details:

Staying at All-Star Music August 11-16

Dining Reservations:
August 11: Cinderella's Royal Table - 9:20pm
August 12: Hollywood & Vine - 8:20am
August 13: Akershus - 8:15pm
August 14: Tusker House - 10:25am

I look forward to planning over the next 29 days with all of you!

I remembered that there was a thread about this a while ago so I went searching and happy to say I found it. They have a lot of good responses to that question. You can even ask for more responses to bump the thread there to get some more answer since it was a thread from last year. :thumbsup2

I know it was brought up on the Facebook group last night but did everyone see the MagicBands and FastPass+ stuff mentioned on the website as a permanent fixture now? It still says it's in testing and following the links doesn't do much, but it explains some of the funky behavior in the last week or so as they were getting ready to roll this out.

I think us August folks are probably not going to be full on into it, but very well could be testers. Most likely won't know until we get there. It's something to keep an eye on though.
