ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

Here's an FYI for anyone having trouble with online check-in. Yesterday was my 60 days, so I checked in my room at the BC and then ran into trouble trying to check-in the other room on our ressie. We have two rooms booked at the Poly and BC, one in my name, one in DW's, with a connecting guaranteed note. My check-in did not note the connection request, and when I tried to check in the other room, they said I needed to be on DW's MDE. I didn't think she had one, so I made one. Then they told me that she does have one and I can't use the one I just made. So I figured I must have made her one way back (no way on earth she did this herself) and went through all the possible email/password combos. Nothing. But according to Disney she has one :lmao:

So today I called and they told me I needed to go to a different website to check her in. It worked! This one also showed the connecting room guarantee. So, if you are having any trouble checking in with MDE, or you have more than one room, go here: mydisneyreservation.com. This is what I plan to do in a few days when I can check us into the Poly.

Oh, and what would you do in this situation? We have the BC first with our tickets for the entire trip connected to that stay, Poly is RO. I was told they can switch the tickets to those KTTW cards at check-in, and that was my original plan. But, given the reports of problems with the keys and tickets, I'm really concerned about that now...people are reporting standing in line for over an hour at guest services to fix their tickets at the park  I was just worried about getting them confused (and there's the hassle of having to carry double the key cards). Some very smart DISer suggested taking along a sharpie to mark the cards with the tix, so hopefully I will remember to pack one! So, what would you do?

I've been debating online check in but I've been worried there will be a screw up with our connecting room (we have a guaranteed note as well which I understands really doesn't guarantee a connecting room...go figure) so I think maybe I'll just wait till we get there. :dance3:

Anyone think there is a chance at walk up ADRs for BOG dinners this August? I'm kind of hoping that the rumors that they aren't returning cancellations into the system are true. Might be the only way to get in there. :confused3

I won't be so worried about it except it's the only place to see the Beast. Lunch service is pretty good and I'm sure we'll do that at least once while we're there.

I don't know...i was hoping that we could "walk up" to our ADR for five with three extra people. I have heard of it happening. But I do know for a fact they are re-releasing the ADRs because when I cancelled the second one, Barbara (Disneyforus) got my spot. We coordinated though so she jumped on it literally within seconds of my canceling. I think it's just so popular with so many people trying all the time that it appears they aren't releasing them when they are.

ETA: Is Beast no longer in France in Epcot? I have met him there before.

I was debating this as well, but the CM I spoke with said that if the reservation is made with a connecting room guarantee, it will trump all other requests regardless of whether you check in online or in person. And I know it's not a true guarantee, but as long as you have only two adults and the rest are under 18, you are 99% sure to get it. The problems people have with not getting them are usually when you have three adults (say a grandparent goes along or a friend) and kids. My boys are old enough that I'm not too concerned. We just did DCL and had two cabins (an inside and a verandah) They were in a sideways inside so across the hall and around the corner from us...it was fine.

After doing some more talking on this we may be closer to 20 people when all is said and done, but who knows how many will actually go or not.

My in-laws have an RV and might be able to house a few folks there which could save some on rooms but I'm also thinking that with the exception of a couple of times we may very well split off into different factions depending on what everyone wants to do. Might be easier that way. Definitely will be on here looking for advice and tips though. :thumbsup2

Look into renting points for a grand villa at OKW - you can fit 12 people in there and it may work out to be cost effective. But that would need to be done ASAP as the 11 month booking window is about to hit.

So.. does everyone have plans for their kids to keep them busy this summer?

Today was my DD-13's last final exam and tomorrow is my DD-10 & DD-8's last day of school. Woo-hoo!! DD-10 is leaving elementary for the middle school, though, so she has been on an emotional roller-coaster with being excited for summer and sad to leave her school behind. :(
My DH is a teacher and tomorrow is his last day too, so we are all very excited for summer to begin! Today is 50 days until we board the AutoTrain for our trip down. Can't wait! I'll probably do online checking in a week or so. :cool1:

Anyway, to answer the QOTD quoted above:

DD-13 is a dancer and she has already started her 4-week summer ballet intensive. Starting July 1 she will also have rehearsals with New York City Ballet which comes up here to Saratoga Springs, NY for a Summer Season (only 1 week this year - boo!). We are so excited for her! She will be dancing about 10 hours a day for a few weeks, between her ballet intensive and then rehearsals with NYCB (it exhausts me just to think about it). So she is busy with dance 6 days a week through July and after that will probably just lounge and spend time with friends and wait for Disney!

DD-10 is a cheerleader and softball player. She finished softball recently and is ready for cheer to start up again, but alas Pop Warner doesn't start until August (and she will be missing about 8 practices due to the timing of our Disney trip, which she was unhappy about but yes she would take Disney over cheerleading! :cheer2:). So she has a week of VBS and will be doing summer reading for middle school and planning lots of things with friends.

DD-8 also has VBS, as well as a week of field hockey camp and a week of basketball camp (these "camps" are just clinics at our school), as well as keeping up with the school's summer math and reading challenges. She's also got some activities with her Girl Scout troop and has a birthday party 4 days before we leave for our trip!

So the girls will be busy and the summer will go by quickly, and before we know it, it will be time our Disney trip!! :cool1:

Dear Lord, how am I going to get a BOG ADR for 15 people? :faint:

You know, it might actually be doable! I agree with the previous poster who suggested going at early or late times. I called right at the 180+10 mark and got a reservation for 9 at 4:50. That is earlier than we wanted, but I didn't ask any questions or probe for alternate availability, just said Yes Please! and Thank You!! I was thinking a party of nine might be tricky (tables usually for 8?), but apparently it was no problem and the reservation doesn't even have one of those disclaimers we've gotten before with parties of just 6 where they caution that we might be split between two tables.

Anyway, I think you might be able to make it work! Now if ends up closer to 20 people like your later post suggested, that starts to be a whole different ballgame. Hopefully there are threads on here about planning for large groups and I'm sure they could help you out on what's realistic, etc.

Sharpie all the way. They make the clickie kind which don't have caps and are great for signatures I hear. I have a pink one, well everything I have is pink, anyway they are great.

I have not eaten at the GG, but I only hear great things about it. And Chip and Dale are SOOOOOO much fun! They really ham it up at the character meals! Coral Reef used to be better, IMO. The last time I ate there it was darker than I remembered, the food was ok, they got rid of the playdough peanut butter, which was always a dessert favorite and we weren't near the tanks. I have always seen the turtle in the Living Seas, so if that is the only reason for the switch, keep GG and just plan to spend a little extra time at the LS to make sure you see him! And go to Turtle Talk with Crush! Last time they picked my DS and I got handed the microphone as his "parental unit" :lmao:
We have decided to keep the Garden Grill and just do Turtle Talk and Living Sea. I am a little disappointed as I was kinda looking forward to Coral Reef, but it's much easier not switching the ADR. And I wasn't sure about he food at Coral Reef, DD7 gets to eat whatever she wants at GG family style, CR she'd have to eat off the children's menu. --->OK just checked out the CR menu, she'd prefer the GG. :)

I hope you aren't in too much pain! Let us know how you are doing!

I think getting my wisdom teeth out has been much less painful for me than watching our 2 kids for a whole day has been for DH! Hahahaha

We're down to 66 days! DH has to wait until 60 days to put in for leave, and his unit is supposed to have a field training exercise that exact week we're gone, so I'm praying they approve him! It wouldn't be a family vacation without him (especially since we're celebrating his coming home from deployment! Ha)

I'm doing everything I can to keep DD busy this summer - she has T-ball through the Y, but for some reason there are 20 kids and only 2 coaches? Last practice dad's just started volunteering because it was obvious 2 coaches couldn't keep them wrangled. Both my kids are doing 2 summer reading programs and story times, we spend lots of time outside, and we try to do short trips to nearby towns every week or two. And we do lots of Disney crafts!

I'm going to Mommy hell. My husband and I were chatting with one another at my sons soccer game and missed his first goal of the season! However when he said after "Did you see my goal?" my husband said "Oh No!!" just as I said "Of course I did":rotfl2:.
Yes. I lied. I lied quickly and without remorse. Because if that kid found out neither one of us was watching he would never ever let us live it down. You should have seen the look of shock on my husbands face:rotfl2:.
He mouthed the words "You are horrible" but I just grinned and told him how fantastic it was.

Had to share somewhere so I thought I would share here so you could all know how horrible I am:rolleyes2:rotfl2:

You absolutely were right to lie! I would have done the same thing! You will see the next one!

Good job, mom!;)

I sooo want our vacation to get here! Right now we're under a rainfall warning with up to 100mm expected by tomorrow night... If you want to know what that looks like search Alberta floods 2013 and you'll see some of the devastation around here.

Thankfully for now we're in a safe zone with no flooding though on the other side of the big city they're being rescued from rooftops by the army!

Praying for sunshine and dry skies to help alleviate our rivers and streams!!!

They have been showing updates of the Alberta flooding here on the Ontario news. My heart goes out to you all  . Sending prayers your way for safety for both your family and your community. I can't even imagine 100 mm of rain!!! :scared1:

Haha It won't hurt anyone! I told DS 4 that if he doesn't sleep in his bed all night I'm taking it away from him and giving it to baby sister. Then I told him he will sleep in the crib.....winning......#mommyhell. :)

Oh how scary! I'm glad you are in a safe zone, but if they tell you to evacuate, please go!

Oh goodness, if that sends you to Mommy Hell you'll see me there and I'll be the mayor! I would have done the same thing!

Another candidate for MommyHell...
DD7 has puffy, glassy eyes with lavender lids. Came home from school with them yesterday too. (No signs of gunky, bloodshot pink-eye) This morning her throat hurts - not enough to stop talking or eating. She's going to her last day of school as it's only a half day and then has an apt with the Dr for a med check anyway. I know I "should" stay home with her - but it's 3 hours of school and they are watching movies. (as both a tax payer and mother I love the "we are watching movies at school" thing)
OK upon rereading this I am thinking I really should keep her home this morning but there are no other signs of illness, no fever. Mommyhell for sure.
