I just found this thread today (where have I been?!)

Can we join in? We will be staying at the Beach Club from 8/26 through 9/2. Me (Jane), DH, DD12 and DS7. We've never been to Beach Club before and I'm looking forward to trying out a different resort.

I'm an obsessive vacation planner, so I have our park days all mapped out and our ADR's taken care of. Was happy to get BOG for dinner for one of the days and DH and I are going to leave the kids with their grandmother (she lives nearby to WDW) and try Chefs de France for the first time on our own.

I too, just found this thread today. I've been lurking for a few months now trying to keep up with everything. I'd love to join in too---our dates are 8/5-8/12---staying mostly at BLT but have a night on the front end at the Dolphin and the last night at GF---it's crazy!

Welcome!

I'm following the split stay discussion here. We are doing our first on property split stay this summer. We've done a "split" with the HRH and BC in the past.

How do you pack for the first and last nights? We are going on a three night Dream cruise on Thursday, and will be staying at the Hyatt Orlando Wednesday night. I'm trying to figure the best way to pack for us for that one night (we are a family of five).

We don't necessarily pack any differently, but we do have outfit lists so we know what to wear on each day. Also, for those first and last nights, we try to keep our belongings in one location and not pull everything out of the suitcase. That way, nothing has been strewn throughout the room and gets left behind.

I saw on some thread...maybe this one? that they put outfits in ziplocks. Might help? Or can you pack a small duffle with the one night clothes and necessities?

I've heard the ziploc thing, too, but I haven't tried it yet myself. The duffle could also work, although I would probably keep it tucked inside our main suitcase. Definitely some ideas to potentially try!

We got the really large ziplock bags for our last trip. Very nice because my wife had the kids outfits all set aside per day. Be careful of packing your suitcase too heavy though. You can fit more that way because you can squeeze the air out but you can have your bag be over the weight limit.

Is it possible to put clothes in the zip lock without them being wrinkled. I mean I understand using that for electronics on water rides (Kahli River, Splash, etc) but clothes?

My understanding is it's a time saver to pull a bag out and have everything you need for that morning right there. No rummaging through the suit case to find the matching sock etc. I just hate to waste the bags for my convenience.

QOTD!

Have you started a PTR? Are you going to do a TR?

This is less a QOTD and more a Give Me Some Reading Material. ;)

I would LOVE to, but I won't. It sounds good, but it's really alotta work. Oh and I'd have to find the password to my Photobucket account...just how many years can you go without loggin in to Photobucket and still have your pics in there? :rotfl:

The gallon size ziplock bags work great for kids clothes (haven't tried with adult size but they do make a 2 gallon size). I like to coordinate colors and/or designs for each park for family photos. It is so nice for the dgd's to be able to grab their bag of clothes for the day and be ready in just a few minutes as we do RD most mornings. I pack their outfits, socks, hairbows, etc. and label the bags with their names and day of the week. Their clothes are no more wrinkled than they would be without the bags.

I'm extremely excited to join in on this thread!! We will be visiting from Wed. 7/31 through Sun. 8/4. We're staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge which I could not be more thrilled about. I also have a PTR if anyone is interested in following along:

Thanks, and I'm ready to get excited with everyone about their August trips! :)

August is not getting here fast enough. Our trip is August 9th thru 17th. This will be the last trip with my son before he is an ADULT (but he promises to keep going with me no matter how old he gets).:goodvibes

Hey! We'll be checking into AKL on the 2nd! :-). And hey, love the username. I'm an English teacher and so therefore, a definite bookworm and library geek. ;-)

We did the ziploc method last trip and it worked out great! I packed each day's clothes down to underwear and socks for the kids. I ended up doing the same for my clothes. Made packing and getting ready in the morning super easy!

I use the ziploc bags for my family's clothes. I like coordinating for pictures and it makes getting dressed a lot faster. No redressing kids who are mismatched and everyone knows what to wear when! I haven't found the clothes to be super wrinkled, well any more than normal! If you saw the way my 13 year old would pack the ziplocs prevent winkles! ;)

I don't know if this would work in the Ziplocs but to pack our suitcases efficiently we always roll our clothes tightly and they aren't wrinkled. Not the t-shirts and shorts anyway. If it was a linen shirt or something it's going to be wrinkled no matter what you do. There are irons and ironing boards in all the rooms. To be honest, I barely iron at home so I refuse on vacation:rotfl:. When we moved when my dd was 9 she was unpacking a box and pulled out the iron and said "Hey! I didn't know we owned one of these!!". Mother of the year over here. ;)
If we have a nice dress or dress shirt for a signature dinner we hang it on a hangar on the outside of the shower curtain. Once we've had a shower the steam has taken out the wrinkles. Works for us:)

I have heard of the ziplock method over the years on these boards. I have never tried it - but it does sound like it would be convenient!

Being that you are just using them for clean clothes, you could reuse them after your trip.

Rolling them is the best way to prevent wrinkles but you could just fold the the clothes into these and then flatten the air out of them.

Thanks for the link! We roll when we pack anyway, so I'm sure it would be the same in the ziploc.

Welcome!! Another former English teacher and book geek over here, so I too, love your screen name!

My oldest will be 17 on this trip, so I know what you mean. And I love your screen name - I have a pug named Picasso (Puglo Picasso is his full name ;)).

Oh, I'm with you on the no ironing thing! But I have been known to take a travel size bottle of downy wrinkle releaser and a few quick sprays and the wrinkles are gone!

Disney Bingo! I love it!!!!
Actually, it's a split stay not originally by choice and I am feeling ambitious and nervous all at the same time with two resort changes. The upside is that we get MORE time, the downside is moving the behemoth that is my messy family twice. :goodvibes
We are driving so I have the luxury of lots of room to pack extra bags. (read overpack)
I originally booked BLT for Wed-Sun(renting points so no adding days) and then we decided to leave Tuesday and drive half way....hmmm, so then we started thinking if we're going to drive 1/2 way (about 4 hours), why don't we leave earlier on Tuesday and drive the whole way and stay somewhere offsite. Then, I found a decent deal at the Dolphin so it only made sense to stay there.......(see how my mind works? ;)
The Sunday night stay came about because DD22 has a real job in the real world now and can't join us until Friday which means if we stay until Monday morning, she gets an extra park day....oh, the sacrifices we make for our children.....GF has always been a dream for an entire stay but for one night and a room only discount.......
So, there you have it---my story of three resorts in one trip. Can't wait for August!
