QUESTION OF THE DAY???
What's your WDW countdown today? Do you check in every few days or keep a countdown on your desk top/smartphone?

I check every few days. We are at 85 days according to My Disney Experience.

86 days and counting. We check ours daily. We have a small chalkboard in our kitchen. My husband, who is great at drawing, puts up a different drawing, almost daily.

I have to get back to cleaning- oh joy.
Hope your cleaning went well.

Thanks :) . The house is clean, the lawn is mowed, the weeds are pulled, the laundry is done (hung on the line, no less....what a beautiful day to dry it all outside!) and groceries are bought.

Hmmmmm.....and this was supposed to be a "day off"?

Tonight........feet up and RELAX!

Lucky you, Gina. Here in CT it is a whopping 45 degrees. I actually have a fire in my fireplace as we speak. On top of the chilly air it is pouring rain! It's more like Columbus Day weather here than Memorial Day! I thought this weekend was supposed to kick off summer not winter. Makes me even more anxious for August!!

It's freezing here in PA, too! We just got back from DS' s t-ball game a little while ago. I wore jeans, a long sleeve shirt and my fleece jacket! This past Wednesday, it was 90°. Crazy weather.:confused3

Its not really warm here either....16 degrees Celcius right now (that's about 60 F, I think) but thankfully, its been sunny and breezy so still nice even if its a little cool.

Here's hoping that your weather improves as the weekend marches onward! :goodvibes

Also....in case anyone was counting down....Christmas is just 7 months from today :santa: .

I agree....its not too often that we have the heat and the air conditioning both running in the same week  .

Okay, so I know I still have 70 days before I go, but this was my craft for the day! My kids don't know that we are going, and we didn't want to tell them until we were there. They are 7 and 5 years old and we couldn't think of a way to get them not to ask questions...then it dawned on me, what if I didn't know where we were going??? Awesome, right? So then the planning started...if we get letters telling us where to go, i don't have to know the end result, thus all the pressure is off me!

Anyway, I wanted to share, because i'm quite proud of myself, the letters I've made that will "magicly" show up :wizard:

The first will show up about an hour before we leave (about 8 am). I'm thinking i could have a neighbor leave it at the front door then ring the bell and run.

The second will be given to the kids by the driver of our limo. (yes, we are having a limo pick us up. It started as a towncar, because a towncar was a bit more than the parking cost at the DC airport. Then i decided to splurge a bit, especially since we had problems finding a towncar that would take 4 of us...)

The 3rd will be given to us by the flight attendant (hopefully) and the flight it's telling us to find will have my mother and sister on it. When they come, they will have made a final letter that says something about going to Disney World!! I don't think the kids will figure it out beforehand, mostly becuase they don't associate Orlando or Florida with Disney World. Here's hoping!! Anyway, without any more fuss, here are my clues!

_______________________________________________________________

After all summer, the days can get long
Who’s up for some riddles, who’s up for some fun?

There’s a surprise coming, but not quite yet,
You’ve got time to get ready, but get ready quick!

Go grab your suitcases, yes, they are already packed.
But they still need your toothbrushes and morning stuff yet!

Once you’re ready to go, it won’t be too long.
Just wait for the next hint, I won’t STEER you wrong!

__________________________________________________________
The next clue is here! The fun has begun!
When the ride is over, we’ll be far from done!

Sit back and relax, this trip takes a bit
But it won’t be too long that you have to sit.

When you get where you’re going, you’ve been there before
US Airways is where you go to SOAR!

That’s it from me until your flight’s done.
Bon Voyage, and don’t forget to have fun!
_______________________________________________________________

Your flight has landed, your next clue is here!
It’s something exciting, it’s something quite dear!

I want you to meet a few good friends of mine
Go to where you’ll find arriving Delta 2369

It may take a bit until they get here.
But trust me, in time; it will soon all be clear!

They’ve been getting clues too, my lips have been sealed!
One last clue when they land, then all is revealed!

:goodvibes

I have a countdown ap but with an excited 8 and 6 year old, we really don't need it:) Days will pass and they have it down pat...74 days to go!

Funny.. I have Christmas on the brain today too! My ADR date isn't too far off for our surprise Christmas trip so I am planning tonight. Are you going back to Florida for Christmas this year too Gina?:santa:

JavArmy.. I love your surprise reveal!!! What a cute idea!!! You'll have to tell us all about their reaction when you return. This trip isn't a surprise for the kids, but the one in December is and they will have no idea. I can't wait!!!!

Much as I would like it to be otherwise, we are having a traditional Christmas this December. Last year was a blast, but there's a few things keeping us tied to the home front for 2013.

My mom had a hard time enjoying the holidays with us away. My dad passed away two and a half years ago, so Christmases are hard for her for that reason alone, then adding our absence just magnified things, I think. Especially since she's been having some of her own serious health issues as of late, we feel we should stay home and be with her (no chance of her ever coming with us....she won't fly. Period.).

Then, add in the fact that this year seems to be the "year of the renovations", a second big trip is not in the budget. So far in 2013, we have installed all new interior doors on the main level of our house, replaced one of our steel entry doors, had a brand new kitchen floor installed, had all new eavestrough and downspouts installed, and are currently awaiting on the paver to put in a brand new driveway .... that replacement alone is at a cost of over $4000 :faint:.

I need to win the lottery. Perhaps I should start buying tickets.....that might up my changes some :rotfl: .

So pigletto, I will be living vicariously through you this December. You'd better plan on doing a trip report!

It was a neat experience. The parks were beautiful and the whole city just had such a festive vibe. The traffic was HORRIBLE, though :drive:.....getting anywhere was a nightmare!!

We visited ICE! at Gaylord Palms, and it was VERY cool (literally and figuratively :rotfl2: ). And we took in an Orlando Magic / Toronto Raptors game, which was soooo much fun.

Best of all, we wore shorts at SeaWorld on Christmas day :thumbsup2 . Gotta love "winter" in Florida!

I hear you Gina. I'd love to go over Christmas sometime but I can't be without our extended family so the week before is what we can do. If my mom or dad were alone I wouldn't go either. There are some things that just trump a trip:)

As far as the reno's .. Wow! You guys have been busy!! We have a stone driveway still. I've put off putting in asphalt because frankly 8 thousand dollars worth of driveway is nowhere near as fun as two trips:rotfl:. But I've put it off as long as I can. Ds is 9 now and started basketball last year. Dh coaches his team. Right now they walk over to the park about 15 minutes away to use the court for extra practice. It would be nice if they could just go outside and practice in the driveway.
We'll need a new car next year as well. So I'd like to put a chunk down on a deposit. So I think next year will be the year of no trips or something inexpensive.

Jake is heading into grade 12 in September, so a year from now, its tuition time for us :scared: . And he's already trying to negotiate a car as his grad gift (nothing like planning early :scratchin).

My car is 11 years old but I love it and will never get rid of it until the old girl completely gives up the ghost. It belonged to my Dad until he died, and its like having a little piece of him still with me. Sounds silly, I know :rolleyes2 . But I am attached to that car.

Despite the expenses looming on next year's horizon, I am hoping we can squeeze out a cheapie trip next August before Jake starts college. We should have enough JetBlue points by then for some free flights (at least one way), and our waterpark/DisneyQuest/mini golf annual passes from this year's vacation will be good until summer 2014, meaning those attractions would be free for us if we travel a week earlier in August than we are this year. I know my guys would love a beach day or two, which doesn't add to the vacation cost. So all we'd basically need to budget for is food (which we can do on the cheap if needed), a nice resort (which I refuse to scrimp on) and a rental car. Should be doable!

Good Morning! Hope everyone is up to at least 65 degrees today, sorry Gina - I can't do the conversion...17 maybe?
Here's to no more rain so the lawns won't be soggy Monday for the cook outs.
Here's to everyone's health, as my daughter coughs up a lung up stairs in bed:sick:. My BIL and SIL arrived safely and we are all of to church this morning unless DD9 has a temp, then I will be staying back with her. She says "Mama I get so bored when I don't get to go to church" honestly a direct quote.

Great News -- Everyone is under the 100 day mark! We are all in the double digets! :cool1:

I have been suffering with a horrible cough since coming down with the croup just over a week ago. Try giving your DD Benylin Mucus & Phylegm ... it comes in a pill format .... and it will help her feel better all over and stop coughing :thumbsup2 . Speaking from experience!!

Sorry to hear everyone has been under the weather! I got a cold a few weekends ago and I still sound like a baby seal. I feel better though so I guess it will just take some time to go away. I hope the rest of you are on the mend.

We are in the 80's today:woohoo:. 89 days to go in fact. I kind of want to poke at my dining reservations today and change them around. We have a Planet Hollywood because the kids wanted to try it. I am overall pretty "meh" about it but I'm sure it will be fine. I should leave my dining reservations alone shouldn't I? ::yes::

I hope my American friends are enjoying their long weekend! I just counted and the kids have 23 school days left. Holy Moly where did this year go?!?!
My oldest will be in grade 11 next year. And my youngest is switching schools to go into a french immersion program for fourth grade.
Like the rest of you were saying I am excited for this trip but don't want to wish my summer away.
I'm wondering if I didn't make a mistake booking us to come home the day before school starts. We've done it before, but this year is a big year for my little guy because he is going to a new school and I wonder if an extra day to settle in wouldn't have been a better idea. I could switch flights and I would only lose about $60 for the last night at the airport hotel. But the flights are another story. Everyone wants to come home on the Sunday and the non-stops are sky high. There is a very early flight with a connection for about what I paid. But bleh.. 7 hours to get home. Not excited about that either.

.

Hehehe. You sound like me! I promised I wouldn't't change the resort side of things so I've been tweaking ADRs the past couple of days...

Of the following, which is/are your favorite?

Kona
Raglan Road
50's Primetime

Enjoy the extra long weekend!! DS has 2 more days of school after Memorial Day due to snow days...But I am done for the week. :-)
