Praying here too!!! I know how stressful it can be. Praying for healing for your mom and strength for you!!

Hello my friends. It truly warms my heart that you're thinking of me. Unfortunately my mom has been ill again. She is currently in ICU with MRSA pneumonia and congestive heart failure. She is intubated and has a feeding tube but she is finally showing signs of responding to the medications. I read the forums on my phone and tablet while in the waiting room but unfortunately cannot do any updates. In just a few days I am down to double digits for my trip, which right now is my bright spot in the future. I will continue to read the threads and once I get a few spare moments at home on my computer I promise I will make updates. Thanks again to all for the concern.

I'm so sorry about your mom--sending positive thoughts and prayers.

QOTD?
Thinking about hospitalization and illness I was wondering if any of you have vacation insurance? I know Squirrel does, we didn't purchase any.

We always purchase it- I broke my ankle one year 2 weeks before we left for Virginia beach and had to cancel our vacation - we didn't have it that year and we will never make that mistake again

We are always insured...the method of insurance depends on our travel. For our August WDW trip, the coverage we get with our Visa is the same we would take from Disney, so there is no need to add extra. Our medical insurance covers us in the US, so whether we need it in NY or Florida, we are fine. Therefore we don't need to add medical coverage, and the Visa covers everything else.

Traveling overseas is a different story. I use http://www.insuremytrip.com/ to cover those (like our cruise that we are leaving for today!!!!!). Cruising is especially vulnerable to requiring insurance, IMO, because God forbid you need to be air lifted off the ship - that's a good $30,000 right there that no one is going to cover unless you have the ins. for it. And because you can customize it to your needs, it will be much cheaper 99% of the time than taking it from Disney or Expedia or whatever travel company you are using. You do need to purchase it within a certain time frame of booking though.

Take a look at what your credit card and health insurance offers - it is often unnecessary to add extras - and then see what's left that is uncovered and go from there.

I purchased it. I'm a huge "what if..." person. It makes me feel better and able to enjoy planning more knowing that I have a safety net there.

Plus, this is my first trip that I'm paying for/planning 100%. A 25 year old (who has student loans for the next 20 years, would one day like to own a home/have a family and go to Disney a few more times) can't be throwing money around with a a job market like this. I'm lucky that I have a decent job and have been able to pay my bills on time and save for this trip, but I still need to budget carefully.

We have trip cancellation, interruption and emergency medical through our Visa card. Its a new card for us (upgraded from our plain-Jane Visa earlier this year just for those benefits). Until we had the Visa with the insurance coverages included, we always purchased a stand-alone plan that included the medical/cancellation/interruption benefits.

As citizens of Canada travelling to the USA, medical coverage is a must. We would never be able to afford to repay medical costs should something catastrophic happen while we are there.

For this trip, we may purchase an additional medical plan for DS, who suffers from very troublesome seasonal allergies. With the different vegetation that grows in Florida, he has experienced some transient issues on past trips which have had us very worried at times. This policy would be underwritten to include his allergies and asthma, just to ensure coverage won't be declined due to a pre-existing condition.

As for the trip cancellation and interruption insurance, we always travel during the holiday season (when winter storms are a concern) or late summer (when hurricanes are a concern) so that coverage is also a must.

Like you said I purchased it, but only because we're flying during hurricane season and our dates aren't really flexible. Disney has a hurricane policy that will allow you to cancel if a hurricane comes or is predicted during your trip, but that doesn't do anything about your plane tickets. In many cases if your flight is cancelled or delayed then you can get it rescheduled for another time or get vouchers for the value of your tickets. Due to school starting our days really aren't flexible on this trip.

I also would get it for a cruise or international travel like momto3gr8boys said. Again, most of the time it involves flying and various other circumstances that could get quite costly if you weren't covered.

If I'm just driving though I have road coverage that covers me.

The credit card travel insurance is tricky. It requires that you use your card to pay for the trip and even then what's included and excluded varies. Definitely worth checking out if it can save you money though.

Finally at 100 days...tomorrow Double Digits WOOO! :cool1:

We have travel insurance with our regular health plan through dh's work. We also carry insurance through our Master card and Visa. Knock on wood we've never needed to use them while travelling!

I always tell dh it's better to have them and never use them then to need them and not have them!

We are all packed and almost ready to go! I am so excited!!!

We will be heading to Orlando tonight, then to the port tomorrow morning. On Sunday we will be in DTD and will most likely take a boat ride over to POR/POFQ. If anyone has any questions or anything they want me to look out for, just let me know! I'll "see" you all again next week!
