Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

Plenty of jobs out there are project- or goal-based and don’t require you to be in a definite place at a definite time without fail. I don’t know what kind of job or what kind of manager you have, but it sounds kind of crappy that you gave them tons of notice and they couldn’t work with you on...

    Question on how to book

I, too, use a TA who doesn’t give OBC for DCL. I realize that I am leaving money on the table, and that stings sometimes, but similar to what you said, she does a great job every time and puts up with all of my OCD-level questions without fail. I trust and enjoy working with her, and I could...

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

Yes, that is what my TA did, and she is confident they will move her to Main. Just hasn't happened yet. My larger point was - it's not a debacle. She was Silver; a bunch of Golds beat her to the punch. Life will go on.

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

The general consensus is that is what's most likely to happen, but the waitlist still has not come through 8.5 months later. We will roll with the punches either way.

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

I was referring more to your comment that early bookers are “rewarded” with Main dining. They are not, any more than you are “penalized” for booking late. Yes, 18 months seems like a long time compared to iPhones and movie theaters, but these trips require a good bit of planning on the...

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

The analogy is not perfect but the point remains the same - "first-come, first-served" is a course of business recognized and accepted in virtually every aspect of retail business when supply is limited, be it staterooms or iPhones. Yes, the Apple store will get new iPhones eventually, and...

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

I did read your full post, and I understand the laws of supply and demand. If your first idea doesn't work, that would suggest the Main/Early seating is full. How can the $10 surcharge work in that situation? You can't charge a fee for a seating that has no space available. DCL is sailing...

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

I like your first idea, but your second? I'm booking and placing my deposit early, and you're gonna charge me $10 extra dollars per day to opt for Main/Early seating? **** that. People who make the financial commitment early should be given a carrot, not a stick. If I show up early at the...

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

I’m sorry your employer wouldn’t accommodate your original sailing, and that you lost your Main seating and paid more money because you had to move to November. However, absolutely none of that is DCL’s concern. Customers who commit early have to pick a seating, and if they ask for 5:45, what...

    Will DCL follow suit?

I agree. DCL doesn’t have anywhere near the competitive edge that WDW or DL have. And DCL isn’t really bringing anything “game-changing” to its existing ships to justify a price hike like the parks did with Galaxy’s Edge. Also, the AP price hike was, as already noted, meant to curb attendance...

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

Disney never promises anyone that they will get the dinner seating they want. You are not paying for a guaranteed 5:45 seating. Anybody who thinks that is either unreasonably presumptuous, grossly misinformed or failed to do their research. None of those are DCL's fault. At the risk of...

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

Yes, that’s what I meant when I said they have to get themselves ready for the 5:45 seating. They need to rest, they need to eat, they need to shower (please!), they need to dress, etc.

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

One issue with a 3:30 seating is that a lot of the MDR staff also work in Cabanas. My guess is that it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, for them to close up, clean and reset Cabanas for dinner, and then prep the MDR (and themselves) in time for a 3:30 seating.

    Not Impressed by Palo

I’ve only done Palo brunch once, but I had the exact opposite experience. I really liked the food, but the wait staff was overly attentive to the point of being disruptive. They kept trying to insist that they serve me the food in the buffet, rather than let me serve myself. Not, like...

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

It’s not a “penalty”. It’s how business works. If you have customers ready/willing/able to commit right now to giving you their money and their business, what company would not give those people “first dibs” on their product preferences? Further - almost everyone who books late but wants Main...

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

That brings up a great question: we know the next ships are all Dream-class in terms of overall size. But how Dream-class are they in terms of layout? Will there be three MDRs? Will they be in the same locations and of the same size as the existing Dream-class MDRs? Hopefully, they will give...

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

But the MDRs are packed pretty tight as it is, especially Enchanted Garden, no? I’m not a particularly big guy, and I find squeezing past tables and chairs in EG to be a little “close”. I cannot imagine what it would be like if they made the table density even higher.

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

^ This. The guy described in the OP flipping out about the late seating for his toddler is the exception, not the norm. And his beef is with his TA, not with DCL. I see your point, but again, to avoid being put in that position - where am I on the waitlist ? what factors increase my...

Why hasn't Disney solved the main/late dining debacle already?

"Debacle"? I really don't think that is the case. As others have said, people would find reason to complain no matter when DCL set the times. As @Lovewinnie said, moving it to 5:00 would upset people who already feel like they are rushing to get back to the ship from a shore excursion and...
