i have suggested this casually many times... but not lightly. the problems with housing/securing pandas in the US from China have been well documented to those who take and interest in zoos and conservation over the last 40 years. You are right that's extremely difficult and lots of restrictions are placed on the use of pandas. but come on...is there anywhere else in the US where pandas make more sense - except maybe the national zoo? Seriously...Disney...China...??? they're in the same bed anyway. I think we can say that its as much up to disney as it is to China. Somehow i don't see alot of interference from Beijing.. Animal Kingdom can probably pull off enough in the clout department to match Memphis, Atlanta, and San Diego...and the national zoo is basically 2 pandas and a pen with deer... but to answer you point...i wasn't oversimplifying what is involved in giant pandas.
