Yet another Solo DDE Dining Report, pics of course! DONE 3/1 pg 11

Nice review of The Wave..that anti-oxident cocktail sounds interesting. I wonder what's in it?

Not sure what's in it but we were told by one of the many bartenders we spoke to that Disney is trying to make their alcoholic beverages healthier, hence the new names and uses of fruit.......:rolleyes1

Excellent report and pictures from The Wave! We were thinking about trying it out on our trip in May, and this report makes it for sure! Thanks!

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Alan

Great review Marcia! We drank around the monorail one night and saw The Wave's lounge, it's awesome!:goodvibes

thanks, yeah, i've done the drink around the monorail, but before the wave was there! will definitely have to do it again next trip!

Food porn--yum!

thanks, hope you enjoy!

Hooray, another report! I'm in! popcorn::

aw shucks, glad you're here :)

Excellent! I really enjoyed reading your last one and was pleasantly surprised to find this one tonight! Love that you're reviewing the cocktails - that's where we figure our DDE card will really pay for itself ;) . Looking forward to hearing about the Tangeriene Cafe - we thought about making an ADR for Marrakesh, but decided we liked the cafe's menu better so would have our fill of Moroccan at CS.

oh yes, that DDE card sure helps with the bars/lounges! and yeah you know, i think i prefer the tangeriene cafe to marrrakesh too. i mean, i like marrakesh, and if you want a sit down, it's easy to get into, but tangerience is good stuff!

Guess what! I had the same table at Brown Derby when I was there in October. Maybe it's the "solo diner's table." I am also a HUGE fan of the rolls and Cobb salad! YUM-O!

Glad to see you tried the Wave. I've been eyeing it. Maybe on a future trip...

popcorn::

how funny, it *must* be a solo table!!

great reports.xxx
looks like you had a good time.:)

thanks, and i sure did!

Nice review of The Wave..that anti-oxident cocktail sounds interesting. I wonder what's in it?

thanks! the anti-oxidant coctail...lemme see...wild berry vodka, something black raspberry liqueur, something about acai juice, er, i really can't read the picture i took of it! i apologize for not knowing!

Not sure what's in it but we were told by one of the many bartenders we spoke to that Disney is trying to make their alcoholic beverages healthier, hence the new names and uses of fruit.......:rolleyes1

yeah, healthy alcohol...um ok, let's go with that! haha

Hi,
I've enjoyed your reviews in the past. Glad I found your new ones.:goodvibes

thanks, hope you enjoy these too!

Excellent report and pictures from The Wave! We were thinking about trying it out on our trip in May, and this report makes it for sure! Thanks!

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Alan

thanks, i really hope you enjoy it! it's some good stuff for sure!

oh and i apologize for the delay! things with work and the holidays have been a bit crazy! but i'm going to do my best over the next couple days (off from work til tuesday) to pump out as many as i can!

Kringla Bakery, breakfast, 11.13.08

After a morning running around Future World in Epcot, I wanted to stop by the bakery in Norway to get something yummy to eat. I've been on a quest for schoolbread for quite a while now. Problem being - I *hate* coconut. Like really, cannot stand it! So okay, when I was there in August 2007 with my mom, we stopped into the bakery, and I asked if they could make the schoolbread without coconut, and they told me, sure, no problem! Buuuut, we had just eaten a meal, so I didn't want it at that point. So I figured I'd come back a different day.

Well, kinda like my quest to find Richard at the 50's PTC, my quest for coconut-free schoolbread has been unsuccessful. Every single time after that first trip that I stopped in to get a yummy treat, I was told, no, they couldn't make it without coconut. Despite my protests, I always gave in, ordering the sweet pretzels with or without the almonds most of the time.

But as you know, I do not give up that easy. So I figured, couldn't hurt to ask. And guess what...I was obliged!!! They made me a fresh one, with no coconut!!! I took a couple pictures of the other goodies while I waited.
pic033.jpg

pic034.jpg

Score big! Too bad I never got to try the "old" one, as I know it was bigger and had a vanilla frosting, instead of the caramel it now has. They warned me that the caramel would be hot, as it was freshly prepared. So I had to let it cool. Got a picture while I waited
pic035.jpg

And then I cut it open for the money shot!
pic037.jpg

I finished the whole thing, honestly, it wasn't very big. I've heard stories of people having to share them, save some for later, etc, but they really must have shrunk these things. Shame, since I'm sure they didn't shrink the price. Oh well, I mean, I didn't have anyone to share with anyway, and if it was too big, it would've landed in the trash.

But yes, I must say I enjoyed it. I'm a fan of boston cream donuts, found this to be similar, yet the "bread" part wasn't as sweet. I think I've read it described that way before as well. And I concur. Good stuff. Glad I finally got to try it, but I won't be rushing back.

Les Vins des Chefs de France, alcohol, 11.13.08

After taking a break back at the hotel, I went back to Epcot, with the plan of hanging out in Canada with Off Kilter until my dinner ressies. So I of course had to get a drink. And well, my favorite is the Grey Goose Slushie in France, so that's what I got. So yum! But be warned...the price has gone up to $9. AllEars lists it at 8 and I'm pretty sure last August, it was 7. But hey, I'm on vacation!
pic055.jpg

Tangeriene Cafe, snack, 11.13.08

With my drink in hand, and some time to kill before the next Off Kilter show, and since dinner wasn't until much later, I decided to stop for a snack. I had brought carrots with me (thanks GardenGrocer!), so I just got a side of hummus. Only ate about 1/3 of it, that was plenty for a snack. It came with chips too, but I left those. Very good hummus, perfect for a snack!
pic066.jpg

Oh yes, while here, I also wanted to get a Tangeriene Coctail. Now, in the past, this was a drink over ice, and came in a souvenir plastic cup. It was a cool looking cup and it said Tangeriene Cafe on it. So imagine my disappointment when I was presented with this
pic068.jpg

Um, ok. It's frozen. What's up with that? I mean, I like my frozen drinks, but not when I'm not expecting them! Plus, it tasted nothing like it was supposed to. It used to be made with juices and alcohol, I'm pretty sure. But now, they mix up the strawberry and tangeriene slush thingies, and then add the alcohol. Cost cutting, I'm sure. I didn't even finish it. Gave me a head freeze, and I wasn't having that. Plus, it just wasn't that good. What a shame, as I really liked that drink. Oh well, many other good places in Epcot for a cocktail!

Tutto Italia Kiosk, alcohol, 11.13.08

After ditching most of the frozen concoction from Morocco, I continued on to Italy. I knew I could get something good here. Up there on my list of yummy drinks, the Italian Margherita. Oh so good and tart! Italian Margherita - lemoncello, grappa and margherita Mix. That's the description. This is frozen, but I *know* it's frozen and expect it. But it's got a good deal of alcohol in it too, so not toooo frozen. If that makes sense. Eh, I dunno. I like this one a lot, I know I've said it before. Just nice and lemony and tart. Yum yum.
pic073.jpg

Rose & Crown Pub, alcohol, 11.13.08

Yes, more alcohol. On my way to the 5:30 Off Kilter show, I stopped into the pub to grab a drink to take with me. I got what I usually get here...the Welsh Dragon. Peach schnapps, Melon liqueur, crème de Menthe, Orange Juice, and Pineapple Juice. Good stuff, if not all that strong.
pic097.jpg

You'd think I'd be way out of it by now, seeing how much I drank. But well, I wasn't even tipsy. I came to the conclusion that Epcot drinks are just not all that strong. I mean, when I had 4 drinks at the Tune In with David, I was DONE! So yeah, please don't think I'm too much of a lush! LOL! These drinks were just not all that strong!

up next: a surprise "snack", and dinner @Tokyo Dining

You are a girl after my own heart! Hope that someday our solo trips overlap! :goodvibes

How about your trip mojo with both your waiter at 50's and coconut free school bread? Wow!

Italian margarita. :cloud9: Tried that on your recommendation in October and loved it. Definitely on the list for December.

Welsh dragon also on my list. :thumbsup2

Haven't tried the Grey Goose slushie but enjoyed the Grand Marnier. $9 is a bit steep but as you said, it's vacation!! ;)

Not sure what's in it but we were told by one of the many bartenders we spoke to that Disney is trying to make their alcoholic beverages healthier, hence the new names and uses of fruit.......:rolleyes1

Sorry to digress from the review for a moment but this statement really annoys me and my better half (I know because I just told him about it and he frowned menacingly). BTW, not annoyed with you Kathy, just the idiots who are in charge of Disney dining these days.

Honestly, if we wanted health food we'd vacation at a fat farm or a health spa. Alcohol by definition is not healthy so why try to pretend that it is by adding fruit? Fruit just adds more calories since it's loaded with natural sugar.

If you ask me, and no one did, Disney seems to be suffering from a severe case of psychosis. I think their senior management team needs a stiff drink ... a stiff, unhealthy drink made with nothing but alcohol. :lmao:

Anyhoo, my rant is now over and I do apologize if I've ruined the tone of your thread. I really have enjoyed reading your reviews and will keep my comments to myself from this point forward. :goodvibes

I fully agree! I think that offering healthy options is fantastic! BUT there is a huge difference between offering healthy items and forcing them upon your guests. The kids meals are absolutely abysmal now, the trans fat free initiative, the vitamin water, the "healthy" cocktails, its all a bit too much for my taste!

Does that mean I dont get my favorites every trip? No. But it means that some of my favorites have been eliminated. I just feel that people should be provided with options.

*steps off the soapbox*

I **love** your reviews! And I adore the lounge at 50s primetime! When I had a solo day at DHS i stopped in for lunch and David was fantastic! He made me feel comfortable, like I had someone to talk to :thumbsup2

that would be awesome if our trips would overlap! when are you going next? looks like march 4-11 for me! and so glad you enjoyed the italian margarita! i always worry that other people won't like my recommendations! LOL!

oh goodness, i totally agree! no need to apologize, i think disney is the ones that need to apologize. i'm so not a fan of the standardized drink menu, i mean, i love that at least a few places have their own specialties. but really, let us choose, please!

and i'm honored that you, brenda, have commented at all on my thread! please don't keep your comments to yourself! feel free to speak your mind, i'll most likely agree with you anyway! i think we're on the same page :goodvibes

and what's really funny is that vitamin water is just as bad as soda, sugar-wise! the powerade was a much better alternative, if my opinion of healthy matters, anyway. crazy. and really....these "healthy" alcohols...um right whatever. like i said above, give me what i want dammit!

and thanks so much!!! i'm so glad you enjoy it there too! my absolute FAVORITE place! as i'm planning out my schedule for march, i'm fitting in as much "david" time as i can LOL!!! :lmao:

Japan Pavilion, snack, 11.13.08

Well, maybe you guessed...but what else could the surprise snack in Epcot be, really??? That's right...I went to see Miyuki! And I got there early enough to the 6:15 show that I was the 3rd one picked. Good thing, as I still needed to get to another Off Kilter show at 6:30! Aaaanyway, I asked her to make me a blue elephant, like Dumbo, she said.
pic144.jpg

pic205.jpg

Still haven't eaten it. Probably won't. I saved it as a souvenir :thumbsup2

Tokyo Dining, dinner, 11.13.08

Well, I had an ADR for 8:05, but I didn't get there and check in until 8:10...because I was at the Off Kilter show. Sorry! I love those guys! So anyway, I asked for a window table since I wanted to see Illuminations, and I told them I didn't mind waiting. Problem is, all the tables at the window are 4 tops. Or at least I think they are. Or whatever 2 top they have was already taken. So yeah, when I was seated at 8:25, it was in the row next to the window seats. Okay, I'll take it.

So I started off with, you guessed it...a drink! I got the Tokyo Sunset, which I'm pretty sure is the same thing I got here in May, however, once again, subbing in vodka for the coconut rum. Coconut hater, sorry! Yum, yum. Um yeah, no idea what else was in it. Probably fruity stuff.
pic170.jpg

I knew I wanted to get sushi, so I decided to get a couple appetizers and a roll. For appys, I went with the Assorted Tempura, and the Clear Soup. These both came out together.
pic171.jpg

pic172.jpg

The soup I think had some tofu in it. I think that's what the waitress told me. It was plain and boring, but I really wasn't expecting anything more than that, so it was fine. The tempura was a piece of shrimp, a piece of chicken, and some veggies. Nice and light and I love that dipping sauce!

Before I knew it, my sushi came. I ordered the Rainbow Roll, which I'm pretty sure is a California Roll with other fishes and avocado on the outside. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong! It was wonderful.
pic173.jpg

pic175.jpg

Good stuff. I mean, I'm not a sushi connoisseur or anything, but it was good to me!

Oh and yeah, Illuminations started right around when my sushi was delivered, so I let it sit and enjoyed the show. The music didn't seem as loud as it did when they piped it in when I was here in May. But hey, that's okay, I got to see Illuminations another night later in the trip.

So yeah, Tokyo Dining, good stuff. I like it much more when I'm not on the dining plan, because I can pick and choose what I want, ie 2 appys and a roll of sushi. I find the Dining Plan a bit restrictive here. But that's just my opinion!

next up: breakfast @Main Street Bakery

The bartender even thought it was, in his own word, ridiculous. Rant away, you are absolutely right!:thumbsup2

I finally got to see the candy lady on Monday. That was really neat, and how cool that you got a souvenier?! :cool1:

The sushi looks really good. I'm guessing salmon & tuna and no idea on the white fish

Looking forward to your bakery review! I picked up some cinnamon rolls this afternoon on the way out of MK for breakfast tomorrow (if I can wait that long :lmao: )

I am so addicted to your trip dining reports!:goodvibes

It seems that we have the same taste in cocktails....

which World Showcase drink would you suggest if you could only choose two?

Main Street Bakery, breakfast, 11.14.08

So after an absolutely *amazing* morning in the Magic Kingdom (you will have to keep reading my trippie to hear about that though!), I decided to take a break for some breakfast. I got to the Main Street Bakery at 10:20, and was served my lovely food 20 minutes later. Seriously, longest line I waited in pretty much all trip, LOL! :lmao:

And so what did I order? My usual, of course! French Toast Loaf! Yummmmmmmmmmoooooooo to the nth power!
pic026.jpg

I've praised it before, and I'll praise it again! This stuff is just absolutely amazing, and I always must have it at least once per trip.

So normally, I get a plain soymilk to drink with my French Toast Loaf, but they couldn't seem to locate one for me. Really, they searched, even went downstairs to check. So I settled on some Caribou Coffee drink thing. But just as I sat down, a lovely CM brought me over my soymilk! For free! So not necessary, but appreciated anyway.
pic027.jpg

So yeah, I took a sip of the coffee thing, it was okay, I would have been fine with it, but I just love my soymilk. So I went with that instead. I even asked the CM if she would like the coffee thing back (before I opened and tried it, of course!), and she told me to keep it. I did tell her it would just go to waste, but oh well!

50's Prime Time Cafe, dinner, 11.14.08

Well, this is one I was really looking forward to....dinner at the 50's with Richard!!! Yahoooooo! I wanted to catch Fantasmic! so I made an ADR for around 5, but showed up at 4:30, since I had just one specific request...Richard. I didn't care how long I had to wait, he was why I was there.
pic040.jpg

So I checked in at 4:30, and was told I could wait up to an hour. I didn't care. I went over to the bar (already knowing David wasn't working), and told Mario I would be there for a while, and could I please have a Picnic Punch?
pic041.jpg

Um right, so before I could even take a sip, they were calling me to dinner! Jeez, I mean, okay, I know you have to tell me there might be a wait, but why tell me it's gonna be an hour when obviously, that wasn't true. I dunno, whatever. I guess they just have to cover their butts in case.

So Richard knew I was coming, and was expecting me. He also knew I wanted to hang out for a while, as this was my entertainment until Fantasmic!. No worries, I make sure to compensate him for taking up his table for so long...haha, and he takes care of me too! LOL!

First things first, I would have ordered a drink. But well, yeah, I already had gotten one at the bar. So I promised Richard I'd be ordering more of them. And that I wasn't ready to order yet. He knew the plan, and was fine with it. So I took the time to call my mom....since she was with me when we first met Richard. And well, Richard wanted to say hi
pic049.jpg

Here, I think he's asking her what the heck she's doing in NJ while I'm playing in Florida!

Oh, I also took some pics of the menus for all of you lovely people. I'm still crying over the loss of the Fried Herb Cheese. Even though I enjoy its replacement, as you will see, I would so much rather have the cheese!
pic045.jpg

pic046.jpg

pic047.jpg

pic048.jpg

So this was the most fun meal, Richard treated me very well, and I got to play along with all of the families around me! It was a blast!

Oh yeah, food. I ordered that too! Started off with the crab cake. I've had it before and I'm sure I'll have it again. Nothing amazing, with more filler than I'd prefer, but good nonetheless. Oh and I do enjoy the lima beans it comes over. I mean, it comes over some "hash", but I like the lima beans. I'm weird, I know, I eat them one by one.
pic051.jpg

Main meal, I got something I'd never tried here before...the Pork Tenderloin. I ordered it medium well, just like I did at the Wave, and it came out good for me.
pic054.jpg

It was a pleasant surprise. Even though I barely made a dent in it! Pretty sure I had ordered a couple more drinks by this point. And well, that alcohol takes up space in the tummy! I did manage to order dessert, as well, though. I had to get the S'mores. And I had 2 bites. But I just needed to order them. So good!
pic056.jpg

Some of the hilarity - Richard and another cousin hanging with a couple families
pic057.jpg

And Richard, as my table mate, sat across from me whenever he wasn't hamming it up with the rest of the crowd! Love him! So much fun!
pic059.jpg

So yeah, I walked outta there around 6:50 for the 7pm Fantasmic! and yes, I got a seat just fine. But yeah, Richard told me to look closely at my bill...as he had left off the entree! Bad Richard! These CM's just love to spoil me :worship: . THIS is why I come back, time and time again. The people. And yeah yeah, food review, whatever, I need to gush! Because that's what the Disney magic is all about :wizard:

next up: lunch @Rose & Crown

Loved the sushi ... that rainbow roll looks so good I could lick my monitor. And if this computer actually belonged to me instead of my employer I just might do it, too! :lmao:

Some day I want to try that French Toast Loaf ... but I can never seem to get past the cinnamon rolls at Main Street Bakery. :confused3
