Hi Mary Ellen! Well...we ditched the room so I'll never know. And no, the wet carpeting did not get resolved. Stay tuned....

Dinner was wonderful. I hope you guys like it. It is definitely a great choice for a special occasion.

Assuming with a 2 bedroom either you want your space or you are bunking with friends. ha ha! Either way, I would agree, a 2 bedroom is pretty awesome!

I should have told our rowdy neighbors to simmer down! :lmao: yeah... that wet floor didn't really get attention...But yes, AKL is still very much a favorite of ours.

It's definitely a nice touch to send Chef Jon around.

It was a pretty amazing view.

I honestly don't mind noise but this was crazy!

So funny.... yeah, I don't know what happened. Somehow those desserts forced their way onto my plate.

The carpet for the entire dressing area was wet. :crazy2: They said they would have maintenance come up but they didn't make it by the time we got back from dinner and at that point we were changing rooms so they may have taken the room out of inventory. Not sure... they didn't say.

Thanks for continuing to follow along!!

It was a pretty fabulous view.

Chef Jon was making the rounds for all the tables that night. I hadn't seen him do that on our prior visit but we haven't been there enough to know if he makes it out of the kitchen much.

Hi Ashley! Ha ha! Yes, that little girl made a "guest" appearance. She was a cutie and we had said hi to her earlier. Brenda Disney!! :lmao:

That's a pretty good incentive to use for your hubby! I'd go for it!

Ugh! I fully expect some noise but come on... it was beyond crazy! Sounds like you've been there - are there!

I think this room had the most products that we received of any deluxe.

Oh man, how could your waiter resist all the cuteness?? This CL guy was just worried and took his job very seriously. He was actually very nice.

We bailed on the room so not sure if the new room occupants were stuck with those noisy neighbors or not.

The resort is absolutely beautiful!! I know what you mean about not being able to walk to a park and a long bus ride from everything. It affected us not trying this resort for several years. However, the last two trips we solved that problem by booking a stay there for part of our trip to enjoy the resort, the restaurants, and AK park. Not sure we'll do this every time but if I had an unlimited budget and time to travel I definitely would.

    Ahhhh Jiko love!!!

Hi Kylie! The floor only bugged me when I walked over there! :lmao: Yeah... we did get a different room so that worked out ok.

Thanks for that helpful info. That's great that you had good luck with your MBs.

Hi Rob! Go and check it out. The lobby is gorgeous! But the highlight is the savanna look out outside where you view the animals. Oh my gosh!!!

Not cheap, just wise with your money my friend!! Yep, we worked out the noisy neighbors by ditching them. Stay tuned...

The CM guy was super helpful and just wanted to make sure that we didn't have any more issues because it had taken soooo long to check in and they didn't solve everything. He showed up at our room too to give us our permanent keys so we saw him around a few times and he kept apologizing. I wasn't worried or bothered so it was all good. Poor guy!

Ohhh pleeez! Thanks for the flower though!!

Thanks, I think I have better photos of the savanna the next day - more animals and such.

Hmmmm perhaps but if that was cleaning water that would completely freak me out since that would be gross!! You my friend are a smart one!

Hi Dave! I definitely approve of your January plans!! :thumbsup2 Your kids will love the animals. They have a kids club there - Simba Club, as well.

Ahhh Courtney, it was a great view of the lobby. Did you see the hidden Mickey's in the comforter??

It's definitely the little things like the chocolates that thrill!

I wanted to bust out and give the CM a big hug and say, it's ok. We're all good!!

It was very nice once I knew who Chef Jon was otherwise I thought it was just a cook in the kitchen who wanted some positive feedback.

I love love love the new Tangled restroom area. I told Zack when we find our forever home he must build me a patio to replicate it!

We really loved our stay at Kidani and spent quite a while visiting the lobby of Jambo. One of the CMs gave me a little booklet about the artwork in the lodge and made me go on a mission to find the hidden Mickey in the shields that make up the chandeliers. So far minus the floor and the loud neighbors everything sounds great!

Hi Melissa! I agree! After a long travel day, it was great to just relax with some Donald Duck cartoons - you would have thought we were 5! (I love thunderstorms, we rarely get them here in So. CA)

You have a great memory! We stayed at AKL 1 night last time but loved it enough to book 3 nites this trip. For WL, I liked it... but 1 nite seemed to be enough for this trip. Split stays work for us but not everyone wants to pack and repack.

Hi Linda! The views can't be beat, that's for certain!

There's a room change in our future....

Hi Katt!! I love that you go to WDW like every other month!! Ok, it seems that way.

Put Jiko on your "next time" list... it really deserves all the great reviews.

Ahhh the safari and breakfast was wonderful!

Those Disney connections definitely made a difference for this trip.... ;)

Hi Kathy! AKL would be a fabulous resort for the kids' one year anniversary! Heck, it's a fabulous resort for any reason.

Ha ha!! The reality is more like....I'm just a kook who handed the camera to the server and said hey, you, photo please with this chef dude! :rotfl2:

Hey Susan! Honestly, I feel so petty saying anything about the wild and loud neighbors but it was obnoxious and the parents were yelling too. Argh! That and we had to be up really early for the sunrise safari the next day.

Paula that's exactly why we didn't consider AKL at all until earlier this year with our Feb/Mar trip. We LOVED the 1 night we stayed so this time has to stay longer.

Ohhh I've read about some people having trouble linking their 3rd party tickets before they travel but obviously they are no problem there but then you don't really have much of an opportunity to book your FP+ preferences. Yeah, I'd stick with preserving your discount as well.

Hi Christen! I really don't mind noise in hotels... I hope I don't sound like an old grouch! Heck, every time I go to Vegas there's a ton of partying going on and people having fun... and then people tell me to pipe down! :lmao:

The first thing I notice about Splash at D-land is the drop is shorter. And at D-land in the queue you can see some of the scenes at the end of the ride through a hole in the wall. I don't always pay attention so there's probably a few more differences. I love your mother-ship reference!

Just don't bother with Story Tellers!! I wasn't a fan.

I like that you go to DL because it's worked out well getting together a couple times!!

Hi Jennifer! There definitely was a lot to love about the resort/room.

    Awww thank you!

I hear ya! You've done a pretty good job with Rich this year I'd say. What's one more trip as a super sweet Christmas gift?? I've seen those $69 1-way SW airfares.. makes you think doesn't it!

Hi Dani! I wish I had the nerve to slip a note under the connecting door and ask them to simmer down but that wouldn't have been a great idea!! :duck:

I don't know how many times I told the CL Cast Member, no worries, it's ok. He just wanted to make sure we were happy. He felt really bad about our check in process and all the issues with the MBs that they couldn't fix.

Sneak peek for you since I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight knowing I'm leaving you hanging and all... maintenance didn't appear to do anything but we changed rooms the next day. The end!

Hi there Rachel! Thank you for reading and joining! I'm very glad that you are here. :) I found your TR and subscribed. You have a lovely family.

See? Those WDW trips are addictive. ;)

Hi there Camille!! The details in the rooms are pretty fabulous. The sheers have characters from Lion King. So awesome!

Hey, you keep dreaming that Poly and GF could be in your future.

Well... AKL doesn't feel far from AK!! :rotfl: Seriously, we are used to being able to walk to a park so this was different but we structured our plans to focus on AK park and dining at AKL during those days. For our dinner plans away from AK area we were lazy and took a taxi.

Uhhh Le Cellier... I no longer eat steak there since it is not worth the price since they changed to Signature status. I did find another favorite steak place this trip which I'll get to soon enough. Can you believe that the only steakhouse I've been to in Texas is Texas Roadhouse? It was good but there are steak houses practically on every corner. I love me some good Tex Mex.

Isn't that a great place to "rest"!! You would have a lot of friends over if you had a Tangled patio!! That would be incredible.

I'm still a huge fan of AKL. The room was very nice - just an issue with the carpet and we changed rooms anyway so it's all good.

That was nice of the CM to share information regarding the artwork... kinda like your own personal Jambo possible mission! If I knew the story behind all the artifacts and theming I would probably be even more a fan of the resort. They just do such a great job!

Hi Brenda, I'm finally coming out of my lurking place to say hi!

I love reading about all of your trips :)

You and Emmy always look like our having a ball together!

I love AKL too, we spent 4 nights there in 2010 but am planning to go the whole hog and do 14 nights next time, yep that's a heck of a lotta Boma! (with maybe a trip or two to Jiko now) ;)

Hi Monica! I'm glad to see you joining in! Thanks for coming out of lurkdom! :)

Awww thanks we do have a ball but Em said, it's more like we have a tea party since we're dressed more casual. (her quote not mine!)

Oh my gosh! I'd die if I got to stay there an entire 2 weeks! You will practically see animals grow up before your eyes! Ha! At least Boma has a lot of variety but yeah, you will probably start to be welcomed by name when they see you coming for another meal. Seriously though, that is a fabulous plan.

Hi there!! I just read through your entire PTR. So sorry once again about the diagnosis but sounds like you are doing ok. Yes? :)

Since I'm not a huge chocolate fan, I had a souvenir to take back to my hubby! :rotfl2: I don't think he realized that those were gifts in the room. Shhh.

    Sunday August 18, 2013: Day 3, Part 1

I think I've mentioned this before.... we have been to AK park somewhere around 10 times and had never been on the safari. This was on my "must do" list and today we were marking this sucker off the list!! We had booked the Kilimanjaro Sunrise Safari which is an option for guests staying Club Level at AKL.

Not only did we have to be at the lounge by 6:45am but we had to get our bags to bell service to hold for our pending room change. (Bellmen at our door was becoming a regular occurrence.) That meant an early wake-up call and wouldn’t you know it, this morning I woke up feeling queasy and generally icky! (A clinical term I’m sure.)

My early morning selfie, looking blah or maybe that's my age showing!! I could have at least smiled, right?

We were up in the lounge at the appointed time and checked in and given our wristbands. They scanned our passes in advance of heading out so that no one had to stop at the entry gates before the tour.

    It's the details!

The tour departed from the main lobby and we were divided up into two groups for the two buses that were taking us to the AK park. Our safari guide, Eddy, was a young man that we recognized from our February stay at AKL. We chatted with him briefly before the tour departed so it was nice to end up being in his bus/safari truck.

    Eddy:

The buses drove through the back stage area that included the medical facilities, “barns” and animal dorms and other research and support facilities. No photos were allowed until we arrived inside the park so being the compliant person that I am I didn’t sneak even one picture.

Once we debarked the buses we were escorted through a back gate and to the Harambe Wildlife Reserve area. The guides emphasized that this tour was taking place before park open so that we could make frequent stops for photo ops with the animals. Also, questions were welcome.

We walked through the back-way to here:

We were informed by the safari guides to select any row to be seated - it was open seating. Em and I had our own row which was nice since we didn’t have to annoy other guests with leaning over to take photos. Maybe they always seat groups in their own row?? Every family was in their own row.

For reference, good to know even if I didn't bother looking at it during the safari. It helped a bit when I couldn't remember the names of the animals in my photos.

The Sunrise Safari is such an amazing perk for AKL CL. I would absolutely love to do that! I hope you started to feel better quickly! Can't wait to see your animal pictures!

I am so excited to read about the sunrise safari! It sounds amazing (other than the whole getting up so early thing! Hahaha) It already sounds exciting getting to see some back stage, no photos allowed areas.

I must say, if you're doing your first safari (yes still shocking), you sure did it right with the Sunrise Safari!!

I sure do hope you start to feel better. :flower3: Icky (yes that is indeed a medical term) is just no bueno in Disney.

You know everybody in WDW don't ya? :goodvibes

So cool to go into any park "the back way".

I think they try to allow each group there own row if possible. Last solo trip I even got a row to myself (or nobody wanted to sit with me, one of those two :rolleyes2 ).

Ahh no, you stopped just as the safari was beginning. Cliffhanger!! You know I would never do that. :rolleyes1

I think the ability to book the sunrise safari alone makes a CL stay worthwhile! Can't say I'd love the wakeup call but I imagine you forget all about it as you're alone in the park! Super cool!!!!!

This is something even my DH would love, He loves the Safari! Maybe my future 1-2 night stay at AKL will have to be CL so we can do this! May I ask how much the tour costs?

Hi Mary Ellen! Thanks! Not sure why I felt so queasy but I was sure hoping it would pass quickly since I didn't want to put on a show for the animals should I get really sick!! It did pass so all was well.

Hi Wendy! It was definitely worth getting up early for the experience.

I now know what the elephant barn looks like! ;)

Exactly, if I'm going to mark it off the list why not do it with breakfast thrown in? Now you see my priorities - food! Whatever the ick was it passed and as noted above, the animals didn't get a special show from me.

Ahhh so you do get your own row. Good to know. That or they were saving room for Pocahontas to catch up with you to be your seat companion.

Yeah.... about those cliff hangers... mine was unintentional! :lmao: Please observe the time I posted it, subtract 4 hours since you live in the Iceland time zone, and realize how old I am and it was past my bedtime... yeah, we'll go with that.

Definitely one of the CL perks! It did make getting up early worth it. :thumbsup2

I don't have a comparison for other safari's but this one included a lot of stops and watching some special things happen.... stay tuned. But yeah, if Olivia loves animals, it would be a very cool tour for her to enjoy!

Hi Paula! Ohhh I think Hunter would like this, The cost was $70 pp and they didn't offer any AP discounts when I booked. This included breakfast.

Hi and thanks! I did feel better later in the morning. :goodvibes

Some of these days I'm going to plan far enough ahead to score a concierge DVC studio so I can do the Sunrise Safari.

What a fantastic way to do your first safari, you do know that you've been spoilt now and won't want to do it any other way though :rotfl2:
