We are doing Disney 5 k in January for charity. Through that I can get a good deal at the poly. It's the same price as wilderness lodge. Most of our time will be at magic kingdom. What's everyone suggest. We will be in a standard room. 3 adults 2 kids one of which is 6 months old. Thanks

Even though I am a VWL DVC owner, I don't think there is too much to think about with this decision...Poly.

Generally, WL has the advantage on price but in this case thats not a consideration and with you saying you will spend most of you time at MK..well, the WL is great but you can't beat the monorail for easy access to MK.

If there is one little item to think about it's that the Poly is beginning construction on it's own DVC resort and you probably don't want to be in a room right next to the construction and there have been reports of the monorail being down for short periods of time on a daily basis. Not sure if this is enough though to tip the scale in favor of WL, but it is a consideration.

Price being equal, I'd go for the Poly. The rooms are much larger and the surroundings are very nice. Easy access to the MK (if the monorail is temporarily down, just take the boat) and Epcot (short walk over to the TTC to get the Epcot monorail).

Even with construction poly wins? Transportation is important to us with a 6 Month old.
One thing about poly is I don't think we can do a meal plan since this is a room block for our charity.

Another vote for Poly. If they are the same price, it's a no brainer. Very convenient resort.

WL is beautiful but POLY is on the monorail. I'd have to go with POLY for the convenience and the fact that you'd be able to walk to Ohana.

I'm the odd one, but I'd book the WL. With a 6 month old you will be needing naps in the day. Construction noise during the day is a deal breaker for us with our 10 month old. The monorail closures at the moment are from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm!!! That takes away any convenience IMO. Also, there is talk of the Poly pool being refurbed in Jan. With small children that might be an issue, too.

We just moved from Poly to CR in Nov due to possibility of impact of noise and monorail issues on nap times. That was our choice because we didn't want to take the risk. Just my $0.02 of course.

I heard they're gonna start remodeling the pool in january... + all the other constructions going on. I would go with WL.

For the same price, I'd choose Poly. It is such a beautiful resort. You can't beat fireworks from the beach and the ease of the monorail (especially with a stroller).

Other posters do have a good point re: construction. Maybe you can request a building close to TTC. It would be furthest from the new building construction. Although not necessarily farther from rehab noise.

I love love love the beach bar, pool, beach (w/ fireworks and water parade) and Ohana.

I'd choose Poly now and go back to WL next year! ;)

Just make sure the volcano pool won't be closed for refurbishment in january (because i think I read about it on Tikiman's page).

I would go with the Poly. We love the WL, but the Poly is our favorite (and it's even more appealing to get the Poly for the same price as WL). A big factor for us is that the Poly rooms are much larger with all rooms having a daybed, which would be great for your party size. With that said, you can't go wrong with either one as they are both great, but the Poly would be my choice without hesitation (with or without construction). Good luck.

The Wilderness Lodge has an apropos name. It's pretty much located in the wilderness, far away from everything. Time is everything at WDW. No question here, Poly.

I love the WL but I think the Poly would be better for you. The rooms are much bigger and have a day bed.

Good luck on your 5K. We ran a 5 K at Disney in January and it was tons of fun. :)

Poly, only for the monorail. I'd choose WL for theming, though.

I will give you my DD's logic...We always go for her birthday in February..this year, I gave her the choice of GF or Poly..she chose GF because "Poly isn't wintery"

Last year she picked WL over AKL for the same reason..and this summer, she picked AKL because "it's as hot as Africa!!" lol

so, while the Poly is awesome, I can appreciate her weather thinking..

Well, we are lifelong Poly lovers but we just booked WL for this August last night. I have no interest in staying at my beloved Poly until all of the construction is finished. Disney has shown recently that they will wait until the last minute to notify guests of any upcoming inconveniences like partial monorail closures or construction. BTW there are far too many apologists for Disney on these boards. Disney knows far in advance when they will be doing construction on their resorts. They simply wait until the last minute to inform guests so that they dont cancel or change their reservation. The last thing I want to do is worry up until the last minute before our vacation that Disney will be adding any additional construction. :confused3

3 adults, 1 kid, 1 baby -- I really don't think you'd be comfortable in a WL room. Poly rooms are much larger and newly refurbished. I also think you would appreciate being able to watch Wishes right from the Poly. It's a great way to end the nights -- watching a beautiful show without fighting crowds. Only thing that I would consider is if the pool will be closed. Granted, it's January and weather might not be suitable for swimming, but still. Otherwise, I really think Poly would be your better choice. Unless you can get that good deal at CR? You'd have the walking path to MK at CR.

I adore WL but if you're able to secure a room at the Poly for the same price, the Poly it is! The monorail gives you easy access to MK and the resort is a 5 minute walk to the TTC for the EP monorail line (You could also take the monorail from the Poly to the TTC, go down one ramp, up another, and board the EP monorail. I find the walk to be easier though.).

Whichever you choose, both resorts are fantastic and I don't think you'll be disappointed with either!
