"Witty Trip Report Title" 2 --Bigger, Longer, Uncut

Wow, what incredible customer service from DCL
Seriously, I really don't think that other cruise lines would be so accommodating - hats off to Disney!
So happy that you made it on board, it must have been a wonderful feeling when you stepped on the ship :)

What a relief! And I am impressed at Disney's level of service, meeting you at the gate! Well, at least you knew your room would be ready when you boarded!

They were fantastic, can't say enough good things about it. It's nice to have a place to call and actually speak to someone. When we checked in at the airport desk they also made sure an agent was waiting for us to check us in and cut us around the small line of people checking in for the resorts. We felt like we were being taken care of instead of just being treated like cattle or something.

We rushed straight for our room to drop our things and head up on deck. "Oh new castaway bags" I said as I rushed by the bed to quickly check out our "navigator's verandah".

We ran up on deck and realized that we were starving. Jenna grabbed some chicken fingers and I noticed a shawarma station. "Oh that's different" I thought as I grabbed one not wanting to miss the chance.

I don't even think we chewed, we were still going a mile a minute, I think the vacation side of our brains were trying to make up for all the time we missed in the afternoon. I grabbed us some fruity rum filled drinks as we made a few calls to family to let everyone know we had made it. I think we went through 3 charges each on our phones throughout the day.

Feeling a great deal of compassion for the other people rushing to the port we watched and waiting for the other busses. One pulled up shortly after we had gotten topside...one to go.

While Jenna went for the second round of drinks I watched the final bus pull in and a family walk not through the gangway but across the pier itself onto the boat. We were obviously leaving later than usual. It was after 5 at his point and with the last passengers aboard we started to pull away.

Not sure if it was because it was the Magic's first official cruise back in port canaveral or what but we got the fancy escort out.

The sun had vanished behind some clouds at this point and the wind was picking up so headed inside before very long.

There was just one more thing that we had to worry about...and that was if our checked luggage had been as fortunate as us in catching the boat. As we arrived back to our room we were elated to open the door and see them sitting there. The final piece of our travel puzzle snapped into place and we felt victorious.

Exciting day! I watched the Magic sail out of port that afternoon and wondered why she was leaving a bit late. So many folks were hit by the weather issues. Glad you (and your luggage) made it onboard!

I remember your trip report from last year!
I look forward to your b2b report!
We did the Western this past year and want to do the Eastern in 2015 too, so I look forward to your Eastern experiences!

We were in Florida the day you were trying to fly in. We had several friends trying to get back to NY from Florida and many of them were being told it will take 4-6 days to get them back. They ended up driving! So as stressful as it was for you, so glad you made it!

Now that you can look back on it, it must be fun to recall having your own bus and private terminal, lol. What a cool photo of the empty terminal you posted!

I love your subtle humor and look forward to more!

I really liked your last trip report and enjoying this one so far as well. I can't believe how close you were to missing the boat! I would definitely understand the drinks while sailing away!

Glad you made it to the ship on time and all went well in the end...I'm curious about one of the pics...
Where is that pic with you by an open porhole? is that your SR?

Yes that is the navigators verandah. There Are a couple more pictures of it coming in a later post.

I read last year's TR two nights ago and just caught up on this year's. What a nail biter on embarkation day! I can't wait to read about the rest of your trip!

I so enjoyed last year's TR and looking forward to the '14 version! what a dramatic start to the vacay. I was stressed out reading it, can only imagine what it was like living it!

Standing (well really sitting) by for more!!!

We wandered around the ship a little bit to get oriented. Jenna had been on when she was 16 but other than that we have only been on the Fantasy. There are similar things but then areas like the adult district are totally flopped. On the Fantasy this area is aft right above Animator's Palate. Here on the Magic it is forward on deck 3 and right off the lobby. Not a big deal but we occasionally would take one step in the wrong direction.

One of our favorite things about the after hours district is that as you walk along this hall that leads you to the venues there is a very bouncy electro soundtrack playing that we couldn't help but dance along too. It's total background music but very fun. I recognized one of the tracks as an old Daft Punk song called "Voyager". If you listen to that it will give you a good idea of the vibe.

We stopped by O'Gills for a pre dinner drink, and I was pleasantly surprised that they have a small buffet open from late afternoon on. On the Fantasy the only food in the adult areas comes out around 10:30. We'll do some comparisons later on but I really like the layout and function of this place. There are a lot of little nooks to get more privacy. It seems like you could still sit in one of these coves and have a conversation even if the place was packed. I love Irish bars but almost never go to the O'Gills on the Fantasy. On the magic we were there every day. Our opinion was that on the Fantasy it is more detailed and finished but was far more functional on the magic.

Dinner was in Lumiere's. We were seated at a nice round table that could sit 8 but there was only 6 of us. We lucked out with a nice group of people.

Jenna had Fried Brie, potato leek soup, a filet, and strawberry shortcake.
I had lobster and shrimp appetizer, lamb chops, and peanut butter mousse.

I think this is the only time we actually took note of what we ate.

Dinner was great, we left full and exhausted.

We got ready for bed and watched a little TV. Sadly the refurb did not include the on demand options that the Dream and Fantasy have. There are some newer movies that play throughout the day on a loop though. One of them was the Robert Redford movie "All is Lost". It's a "castaway" style survival film about him being stuck on a raft in the ocean after his sailboat sinks... What an odd movie to play on a cruise ship. I think we saw the whole thing eventually, although totally out of order.

It had been a long long day, and we crashed...

I remember reading your report last year and enjoying it very much, so I'm glad to be starting this one.
Glad to hear that you made it to the cruise. My BIL &SIL were scheduled to fly here to FL on JetBlue from JFK and they never made it. Their flights got cancelled so many times they finally gave up and cancelled their visit. Disney really did seem to go the extra mile to see that you and the others on late flights got to the ship on time.:cool1:
I am looking forward to reading the rest of your report.

Just finished last year's report and subscribing to this one. Love your quirky humor (had to describe the switch labeled "emergency" and "normal" to a friend)!:lmao: Can't imagine how many people just walked by that without really seeing it.

Can't wait to see how this year's trip goes!

:coffee: Have just finished your first TR and loved it so subbing to this one. Glad you made it to the ship!! I wouldn't have been as calm :cool2: as you seemed if this happened but it has spurred me on to book Disney transfers for our next cruise!

Looking forward to reading more

I had a good chuckle as I walked by the "Emergency" switch again this year. Humorously I think it was right by our muster station, so I guess if we mustered we would know to panic or not.

That's sad...I just wanted to get out of New York. I knew that if we could get out that we had more options. If our flight was cancelled we wouldn't have left for 3 days.
