Wishes in Catsablanca: 7.22.13 Epcot Wedding PJ&TR! Updated 03/09/15

I have been a long time lurker of your PJ and just wanted to say WOW :goodvibes your wedding was so beautiful and magical and so perfect I love how you added your own touches every step of the way and all the magic touches :wizard: I have been debating between a disney cruise wedding or a WDW wedding and I had a question do you have a BEO i didn't see one in your post i know some brides post them to give an idea that would be greatly appreciated if its not a trouble! also i love your trip to Hogwarts that place is amazing and an awesome added touch (dont be suprised if other brides steal it..like myself its a fabulous idea :cheer2:) Well can't wait to read more of your TR especially your time on the Disney Cruise

Congrats again :cool1:

I am so happy I clicked on your thread! I am considering Trinity for our wedding and they actually sent me your video as a sample of their work. Would you mind letting me know what you thought of them? They are on my short list, thanks so much!

Awesome update! I've always wanted to try CRT but never have. I think i'll stick to the breakfast seating. I think it's harder to mess up breakfast food (though still possible).

I loved your review of the Behind the Seeds tour. We keep saying we'll go on that some day.

I normally just lurk around here but you're wedding made me want to post very much so...this is honestly one of the most beautiful weddings I've seen...Congrats and thank you for sharing your beautiful day...it looks absolutley perfect.

Hi to the both of you

First of all I cannot tell you how jealous I am of you two. I wish my df would want to write in this thing. He's all for reading them, but no desire for his ideas to be implemented.

Next and the most important, your wedding was absolutely stunning. I am obsessed with all the photos. I cannot stand how cute you two are. You are both so detailed in your writing and I am in so shock of how much you remember after the fact. Everything was absolutely wonderful with your cake topper being my favorite part - Can't help it, I'm a sucker for champagne :rotfl2:

Thank you so much for posting that info on CRT. I was working on my ADR's and I had been there probably 10 years ago and remember it being fun but we couldn't decide where to take my niece: BOG or CRT. Well we definitely chose BOG after that. Me and DF are huge food snobs and I would have been embarrassed to take family who have never been to Disney there especially with the cost of it!!!

Thanks for the amazing PJ!!!!

I love your ingenuity - heating up the leftovers with the blow dryer! I don't know if I would have thought of that.

I did the Behind the Seeds tour when I did my solo trip! I really enjoyed it too and would definitely recommend it. I actually had the same tour guide as you too, I recognize him from pictures I took. I don't know too much about plants and gardens, but I found it really interesting. One of the coolest things I thought was the plant that had leaves which shriveled up when you touched them, but then later went back to normal. Very cool!

I love your red dress from China. I've always wanted a dress like that but would never have a reason to wear it!

Sorry your experience at CRT wasn't the most magical. It's not about the food but that just sounds pretty bad. I'm glad you at least got the refund, that's a nice bonus!

I know what you mean about trying all of WDW's restaurants - I'm determined to do this someday, but it's hard when you want to revisit old favorites!

I CANNOT WAIT to watch your video as soon as I'm home from work - we booked Trinity too!

I've actually never been on Living with the Land, but every time I see the Behind the Seeds tour I want to try the ride even more! Definitely will hit that one on our wedding trip.

There is nothing wrong with margaritas just before noon :thumbsup2

I love your red dress! It looks gorgeous on you and goes so well with your veil!

Oh Royal Table. Stinks that you had such a poor experience, and on your last night at WDW too!

Can't WAIT for your cruise portion, especially since we'll be going on the Fantasy in October!

Thank you for your comments! By now, we've been able to cross most of the must-do restaurants off our list, and it'll be nice to try lesser-known places like Sanaa and Tusker House, but like you, we definitely got our favourites.

Thank you so much for sharing your video! It is very beautiful and DF and I have a much better idea now of what to expect of a Disney wedding. Also it is so helpful to see not only the commercials of the vendors with their best moments or their best video, but the actual product.
And your trip report is really cool - I definitely try to do the Behind the Seeds tour myself! I'm sorry to hear about your bad experiences at Cinderella's Royal Table - especially on your honeymoon! Hopefully you had better dining experiences on your cruise???
I'm really keen on the next part (especially with the stunning preview of your at-home-reception).

Thanks for the comment! We were very pleased with Trinity, particularly how well they interacted with the DFAP photographers and our officiant. We did have some very good dining experiences on the cruise, especially at Remy; DH can't wait to write about it, because it's about his favourite Disney restaurant, period.

So beautiful, Nicole!!!!! And ending with the dessert party and the fireworks was just perfect. Absolutely gorgeous.

You make me want to get a videographer. I think we're a little too far out though now money wise to even consider it. :( Plus, DF thinks we'll watch it once and never again. I would watch it every anniversary!

Tiffiny

Hi Tiffiny! We were on the fence about videography at the start of our planning, too, but eventually we decided there'd be real-time moments the photographers wouldn't capture the same way, like the vows and speeches.

Hey there! Thanks for your lovely comment! We definitely had fun at WWoHP; it was a great way to bond and relax before the wedding. It helps when both your MOH's are diehard nerds. I won't be posting the BEO, but if you've got any specific questions about it, feel free to PM me.

I am so happy I clicked on your thread! I am considering Trinity for our wedding and they actually sent me your video as a sample of their work. Would you mind letting me know what you thought of them? They are on my short list, thanks so much!

Hey! We were very pleased with Trinity. Their style is cinematic but still understated, and it felt like they worked hard tailor the style of the final video to the wedding itself. Starting the video with my dad's speech, for example, isn't something you see often, so they're not working from a formula. They worked well with the photographers, officiant and our guests. The only issue I can think of was that our video arrived a little on the late side, but not beyond the window of time that was quoted to us at the time (it was a big-ish window.)

Awesome update! I've always wanted to try CRT but never have. I think i'll stick to the breakfast seating. I think it's harder to mess up breakfast food (though still possible).

I loved your review of the Behind the Seeds tour. We keep saying we'll go on that some day.

Hi! Yeah, if we ever go back to Royal Table, it'll be for breakfast. Behind the Seeds is definitely worth it.

I normally just lurk around here but you're wedding made me want to post very much so...this is honestly one of the most beautiful weddings I've seen...Congrats and thank you for sharing your beautiful day...it looks absolutley perfect.

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment!

Hi Lindsay! Thanks so much for your comment! Writing this TR with DH isn't all it's cracked up to be because he insists on adding lame jokes into my sections. From one food snob to another, you made the absolute right call on CRT; BOG is definitely the superior restaurant in every way.

I love your ingenuity - heating up the leftovers with the blow dryer! I don't know if I would have thought of that.

Thank you for your comment! I've always loved the Chinese dresses too, and never thought I'd get to wear one, go figure! There's always Halloween, right? Heating up the leftovers with the blow dryer was all DH's idea, it seems crazy but it actually worked, who would've thought!

Disneymoon: Day 5

A bit of packing and housecleaning before the Disney Cruise Line fairies came to whisk our luggage off to the Disney Fantasy. We enjoyed our MK views a little longer before heading over to the lobby to rendezvous with the DCL reps. The CM escorting the DCL rep asked us if we had gotten married in Italy, because he was working in World Showcase that night and saw our party in Italy Isola. It was cool that he recognized us, but I wonder what job takes around the parks and resorts to such varied tasks. We took a few last minute GF photos while we waited.

IMG_0001_zps1777f63c.jpg

We actually say an antique table that looks very similar to this just this weekend, and we're debating on getting it for our new home. A little taste of the GF at home sounds pretty sweet!

Aboard the Disney Cruise Line port transfer bus, we also got a lovely congratulatory shout-out from the bus driver. One more stop at the Poly, and then we were on our way!

IMG_0008_zpsabbc0810.jpg

That amazing moment when you can see the ship and you know you're almost there...

At Port Canaveral security was a breeze, as was the Castaway Club check-in -- membership has its benefits. Sailor Minnie was saying "Ahoy!" to guests. We were given a letter informing of an itinerary change due to bad weather in the Caribbean, the lingering effects of Tropical Storm Dorian. Perhaps this was the first sign of the hiccups to come, but as we boarded the ship we were still optimistic. Still, small hiccups were to be a persistent theme of the cruise.

Another hiccup: "The Fantasy welcomes the Cole-Meyer family!" Cole and Meyer are not our names, but we took it in stride. Our room wasn't ready until 1:30 p.m., so we went to guest services to sign up for a wine and chocolate tasting, and then hoofed it up to Cabanas for a pleasant, light lunch. As far as cruise ship buffets go, Cabanas is about as good as one could expect, well-maintained with a decent selection of foods. Our favourite item: the sauteed spinach.

IMG_0010_zps92c9c29d.jpg

Oh, but we have fun.

IMG_0011_zps124573a7.jpg

A chance meeting with future royalty!

IMG_0012_zpseff21fd6.jpg

After lunch, we explored Europa, the adult area of the ship, which is markedly different from the adult areas on the other ships. It's definitely more organized with a greater variety of themed areas, but we did miss Pink on the Dream. The central axis on the Fantasy is the Italian-themed La Piazza bar, with the O' Gill's Irish pub and the Ooh La La champagne bar spinning out from it. Even the washrooms are remarkably designed. We signed up for a champagne tasting at La Piazza; another hiccup: the printer wouldn't work, so we had to wait a while for our tickets.

By the time we had it sorted out, our room was ready.

IMG_0044_zps1d266f58.jpg

Elevator shot!

We really enjoyed the inside stateroom on our previous four-night Caribbean cruise on the Dream, because it's off the main hallway and has less foot traffic outside the door. The lower price doesn't hurt, either. The addition of the Magic Porthole also keeps the room from feeling too boxed-in. We thought we were being clever booking another inside stateroom, but the result was less than desirable. Let's go the photos!

IMG_0055_zpse0f1e986.jpg

You can see the left side of the hallway with our room, and the opposite side used for handy toilet paper storage. You'll also notice the hidden doors next to the boxes of Angel Soft toilet paper. The doors obscure the crew stairway.

IMG_0061_zps82596192.jpg

Now, don't think for a second I'm begrudging the crew for their need to move swiftly and unseen throughout the ship, but the metallic reverberations of heavy footsteps could be heard clearly in our room day and night. In short, it was not the best location to stay. Still, this was to be our home for the next seven days, so we made it amenable by putting up our custom-made honeymoon magnets.

IMG_0073_zps2f8208f6.jpg

Our Silver Castaway Club gift was a backpack with snacks and a nice letter from the ship's captain.

Next up: the mandatory emergency drill on deck, and then onto the pool deck for the sail-away party with Mickey and the gang. We got acquainted with a couple of deck chairs, then went back to our room to dress for dinner.

IMG_0063_zpsa9ae6567.jpg

IMG_0060_zpsdf2f73c7.jpg

Our late dinner seating at Royal Court meant that we took in the early Walt Disney Theatre show, a rollicking meta-textual romp about a family on the very cruise we were on brought together by the magic of Disney and shuffleboard.

After the show, we had some pre-dinner champagne at Ooh La La. It's no Pink, but it's still nice and a reasonably quiet and secluded place. The busiest it gets on the first night is curious people poking their heads in the door, then leaving.

We then headed down to Royal Court for dinner. For all your royal princess fantasy dining!

We fully expected to be seated with one or two other couples, as is DCL's practice for couples, but we were--how should I put this--put off by the decision to seat four honeymoon couples together at the same table. Because your honeymoon becomes better when you share it with other people on their honeymoon, right? The reflective power of each couple's honeymoon intensifies and refracts, creating an infinite prism of honeymoon happiness, right? Seriously, though, the couples were nice enough, but who wants to sit around and compare wedding notes? It makes sense on paper, but in practice it was a bit of drag. We were not the only ones to think this, because there was only one meal at Animator's Palette when all four couples were together at the same table (creating a honeymoon Voltron, if you will.) Otherwise, at least one couple was always away at Palo or Remy, where they value the privacy of a newly-married couple.

But enough bitterness! Onto the food! I ordered a cheese soufflé. Very cheesy, yum.

IMG_0097_zps1973aec4.jpg

DH did the typical cruise thing and ordered two apps, because why not, right? First up was the chilled lobster and shrimp salad (a little bland and comparable to the chilled shrimp at Cabanas) followed by the escargots, which I tried. It's not my thing, but he assured me they were good.

IMG_0098_zpsdf7f528f.jpg

IMG_0099_zps849b5fc2.jpg

The cauliflower soup was tasty with a cheese biscuit floating on top. Have I already commented on how much pureed cauliflower popped up during this trip? I probably had more cauliflower on this one trip than the rest of my entire life combined.

IMG_0100_zps136ea6a2.jpg

The salad was a salad.

IMG_0101_zpsaa0987df.jpg

Mains were gamey. DH always has a compulsion for the stranger stuff, so he went with the wild boar chop. It was indeed gamey, but not oppressively so.

IMG_0102_zpsb3525c08.jpg

I didn't used to like lamb, then I sort of got into it, but now I find myself liking it less and less. This rack of lamb didn't improve my opinion, though DH thought they were good.

IMG_0103_zpsbbfdad2e.jpg

Onto dessert! Peanut butter mousse! Yummy!

The sweet temptations, including the PB mousse, vanilla creme brulee and mango cheesecake.

After dinner we went for Disney Trivia in the lounge. Now, on a previous Disney cruise, we lost a game of Disney Trivia by a matter of a point, one of which was a question about which Broadway actress does the singing voice for Meg in Hercules that I will not live down. (Susan Egan, Susan Egan, Susan Egan) To rub more salt in our wounds, the top three teams were given a tie-breaker that we totally knew. Whew! Sorry. These are deep psychological scars... Anyway, we were determined to win Disney Trivia this trip, and... we lost again. We slunk off to bed to wallow in our loser status. But we will have our day. Oh yes. We will have our day.

, one of which was a question about which Broadway actress does the singing voice for Meg in Hercules that I will not live down. (Susan Egan, Susan Egan, Susan Egan)

More trivia dealing with this!! She's ALSO the speaking voice of that character-- unusual at the time, since they had been splitting them up (Mulan, Lea Salonga sang and Ming-Na Wen spoke, etc, and Lea ALSO sang for Jasmine ps!)

Disney actually didn't want Egan at ALL- she was their origin Belle in the stage version of BatB at the time and they thought she'd be to sweet. She had to go way out of her way to convince them she was the right girl. And good thing she did- I think Meg is some of the best work she's done!

Yay Fantasy!! I agree with you, I can understand what Disney was thinking placing a group of honeymooning couples together, but man I would not want that in practice. I requested our own table for our honeymoon cruise on the Fantasy - I like the idea of sharing tablemates, but not for the honeymoon methinks.

Oh Disney trivia! I hope that's foreshadowing that you eventually will conquer the trivia beast!

Sorry about the poor location of your stateroom - you should add a review to the stateroom reports on the Dis for other people's reference.

Ooh, yay for more trivia! I don't know why I thought she was only the singing voice, but it's probably as you say, they were really mixing "famous" actors as the speaking voices and Broadway actors as singing voices at the time. Cool!

Yeah, honeymoon couples together. **. I don't remember if we specifically asked for a table of our own, but if I could go back in time I would definitely make sure I had. Fingers crossed you get a table to yourselves!!

Good thought about a stateroom review, I may do that! (Or have DH do that... he enjoys his reviewing! :rotfl:)

Disneymoon: Day 6

Groom here.

Our new itinerary took us to Castaway Cay first. We weren't sure we wanted to go--Castaway Cay's more of a late cruise type of thing--but we're glad we did.

Breakfast at the Enchanted Garden was a nice opportunity to sit and dine on our own.

Out on the island, we walked to Pelican Point, and took the tram down to Serenity Bay where rented an inner tube, found our beach chairs, and settled into a comfy routine of water, sun, and shade with the occasional cold drink mixed in.

Late in the morning, a slightly disheveled, roguish figure could be seen cutting a path down the beach. It was none other than Captain Jack Sparrow himself!

IMG_0128_zps302f4636.jpg

I asked him how long he'd spent stranded on the island. His answer: For as long as he can remember. Good answer! On our last cruise, I got sunburnt, so we made sure to stock up on sunscreen. We didn't need it as much, because it was cloudy on and off throughout the day, though Nicole's calves were burnt by the end of the day. Jack's Sparrow's leather pants aren't looking so impractical.

IMG_0130_zps15f28108.jpg

Lunch was a serviceable affair, but they say that food tastes better with sand between your toes, so the food may very well have been objectively terrible. Getting some ice cream and bringing it back to our beach chairs was the best part.

IMG_0131_zps35e1778d.jpg

IMG_0132_zps60564da2.jpg

Then it was back to work: sun, water, shade, Nicole attacked by a large fish (not only does she not like to eat fish, she's afraid of them too!), sun, water, shade... you get the idea. Around three it was time to punch the clock, and catch the next tram home. All in a day's work on Castaway Cay.

IMG_0173_zpsfb0ddfee.jpg

The men's washroom in the Europa section, welcome to Barcelona!

IMG_0176_zpsc884ad05.jpg

The ladies' was pretty gorgeous too (I'm told.)

IMG_0179_zps8f73055d.jpg

Bride here.

We opted out of the nightly show (ventriloquism) and browsed the shops. We found ourselves in Animator's Palette for dinner for Crush's waterside chat.

IMG_0187_zpse5fbc5ac.jpg

For starters I had a strangely saucy mushroom risotto. Saucy, but tasty. I looooove risotto.

IMG_0193_zps5f391dce.jpg

DH's appetizer, the truffle-scented ravioli, was a big hit. Very light despite the heavy ingredients.

IMG_0194_zps3403a989.jpg

Squash soup, a little too sweet, but good. And as I'm sure you can tell, I almost forgot to take a photo altogether. Oops!

IMG_0195_zps1a887243.jpg

Tonight's salad is a salad, but with peaches instead of tangerine wedges.

IMG_0196_zps35f27d02.jpg

Mains! Oh dear... Veal three ways. Anything three ways is a bad scene, because there's always a weak link. In this case, it's the pile of "pulled veal" smothered in sticky sweet "Asian BBQ sauce." The tenderloin was a bit tough. I later lamented not just getting a second order of the risotto.

IMG_0198_zps17a925c5.jpg

This ginger-teriyaki-dusted beef tenderloin was missing the ginger, the dry teriyaki powder (?!) or the tenderness in the loin. Overall, this Asian fusion stuff wasn't really working for Animator's Palette.

IMG_0200_zps62fd749a.jpg

A nice surprise cake from our server. I mean, it was the same cake given to the other two honeymoon couples, but it was still very much appreciated. He even gave us some lovely Ariel-&-Eric-Forever 'Just Married' buttons.

IMG_0204_zpsf9694e38.jpg

Cake's not over. Here's a tasty walnut cake covered in dark chocolate.

IMG_0205_zps595dd545.jpg

DH had the pineapple financier, which was a bit of a miss. The cake base was grainy and the pineapple didn't add much. The colours do work nicely on the plate, though.

IMG_0206_zps1ae21f47.jpg

More commuting! This time, the destination was booze at the British-themed, mod-style Tube discotheque and bar. Hard work, this cruise.

IMG_0209_zps2bcc0dbd.jpg

They didn't have the greatest selection of ales and beers for a British bar. At the front, we "watched" a juggling act. When people move themselves directly in front of your eyeline for a ventriloquist act, it's trouble, because then you don't really know who's talking, the ventriloquist or the dummy. But at least with juggling, you can see the bowling pins flipping away above people's heads and fill in the rest with your imagination. We're going to guess he caught them, then threw them back up in the air.

And in case you thought we were exaggerating about our view: you can just make out the tiny flying balls between the pole and the lady in front of me. Sigh.

IMG_0215_zpsef5dc9c3.jpg

After that, we made our way back to the room and ended another day.

The ship looks beautiful! I've never done DCL before, but I really hope to someday. This is the second TR I've been reading with a cruise and it's making me more eager to do it! Sorry it doesn't seem to have quite lived up to your expectations, but I hope you had a good time anyway.

The food all looks delicious. I'm a sucker for cruise food. Especially the desserts look appealing.

Oh, Disney trivia! I didn't know they did that but I'm not surprised, it sounds like a blast. I'm sure it might be difficult because there are a lot of big Disney fans on those ships!

Castaway Cay looks very nice too, and I think it's really fun that Jack Sparrow was wandering around!

Hooray for Castaway Cay! I think food definitely tastes better when you're eating it with your feet in the Bahamian sand (or at least, I imagine so!)

The details on the ship look simply gorgeous. Sorry the food was a bit of a miss - and your view for the show! No me gusta.

I'm sorry your honeymoon doesn't seem as magical as you would like. I hope it gets better!
Weeellll.... I'm not going to lie, things get just a little worse, but then they definitely get better! As a whole we had an extremely magical honeymoon, and even though things weren't perfect I wouldn't change a thing! And the further away we get from the actual thing the easier it is to forget that little things and remember how amazing everything was overall.

I know I'm biased, but Disney cruises are definitely the way to go! Even if this ours wasn't the best Disney cruise experience, I would still want to go on another Disney cruise, it's just too good!

It definitely is! I'm not really a beach person but I love Castaway Cay, the more I go, the more I love it! And hey, free food just a sandy walk away, cannot go wrong! :cool1:

Disneymoon Day 7

Groom here.

The day began the night before with so much intense creaking and rocking that Nicole had a sleepless night. She doesn't do well with floating enclosed spaces to begin with (she's a reluctant cruiser who makes an exception for DCL cruises) and ones that creak and rock are even worse.

In any case, at five a.m. I took my panicky bride down to Guest Relations where Steven, a very kind crew member, assured her that everything was fine with the ship. Situation normal! Still, it was a strange, frazzling start to the day.

We channeled our restlessness into action by signing up for the Art of the Theme tour. We mustered at the Meridian Lounge next to Palo, and met Megan, our tour guide who my Charmed-loving wife thought looked sort of like Rose McGowan. The tour is definitely worth it, because it points out the subtle design details of theming that you'd never pick up without the help of a tour guide, like the Star Wars characters milling about the street in the Skyline Lounge scenes, and the carpets directing you to the front of the ship. Here are a few highlights:

All the characters wandering around in the city scenes in the Skyline Lounge are Star Wars characters. If you watch along enough you will see lightsaber battles. Well there's also Mickey in there too--he and Han Solo live in the same apartment building!

Practical tips: if the carpet is right side up you're heading forward. Also if you have a Fish extender you're on the port side (Fish, Port and Left all share 4-letters).

Next up, more Disney Trivia. This time, we were able to pull out a win, and win a couple of snazzy key chains for our troubles.

We did a quick lunch at Cabanas (they had sushi, ooh!) to prepare for our next event of the day.

The champagne tasting in Ooh La La Lounge cost $30 per person, but how often do you get to sample a variety of champagnes? Also, champagne seems to be a thing we do now as a couple, so we figured we should know more about it. The tasting was conducted by the sommelier at Palo. He talked about the history of champagne, various champagne-making processes, dryness and how to judge the quality of champagne (the size of the bubbles.) It was informative but he made it fun.

We tasted five brands--common, mid-range brands you can find pretty much anywhere: Moet, Lanson, Tattinger, Bollinger and Rosa Regale. Bollinger (James Bond's preferred brand of champagne) seemed to be the near universal favourite because of its bold flavour, but Nicole liked the sweetness of the Rosa Regale, especially with the verrine dessert they provided.

They introduced the Ooh La La-branded Tattinger champagne only available on the Fantasy with Jessica Rabbit on the bottle, but it wasn't among the champagnes we tasted. There are only so many bottles available, and you can get it by the glass at Ooh La La or grab a bottle on board in the gift shop while they last.

After the tasting, we went to the D Lounge for an apple strudel-making demonstration. (We were a few minutes early, so we sat outside making strange faces at each other. No, seriously.)

IMG_0278_zpsb1a4f1cf.jpg

The chefs aren't exactly professional presenters, so the slickness of these demos vary, but there were some great tips for baking back at home.

Next was another round of Disney Name That Tune in the La Piazza bar. It was good fun, because they had the resident piano player playing the songs instead of a recorded playback, and we (Nicole, really) killed it. That's what happens when you assemble a Disney-centric wedding soundtrack--you go through a lot of Disney music. We were the only ones in the room to identify "Married Life" from Up!, no one else had a clue!

By then, it was time to dress for formal night, and head down to the showcase production of Aladdin at the Walt Disney Theatre. It was pretty good, with some eye-popping stagecraft, particularly for the "A Whole New World" number.

During the show, the seas began to get noticeably rougher than they had been before. We went up for our dinner at Palo, but by the time we got to our table, I was really feeling those rough seas. I had to excuse myself from the table, then restaurant, then the deck, all the way back to our stateroom, because I was not feeling good. Nicole joined me a few minutes later; the good folks at Palo were able to reschedule our meal for the next day.

The rest of the night ended up being a write-off. Nicole didn't like spending time in the cramped, rocky stateroom, and I was so seasick I couldn't spend any time outside the stateroom. We ended up ordering room service and watching Disney movies on the television. Nicole ended up watching movies all through the night to distract herself.

Overall, a bit of a mixed day.

I can't very well leave it on such a downer note, so here's the next part too!

Day 8 - San Juan

Bride here.

Another day, another day to get this cruise done right.

The ship had docked at picturesque San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the postcard view from the deck was as close as we'd get to seeing it, because we opted to stay on the ship and sun on the deck. A lot of that decision was the result of all the excursions being sold out due to the change in cruise itinerary.

We started with breakfast at Royal Table. DH got an omelette, and I got the buckwheat crepes. I wanted steak and eggs, and DH insisted on asking the server if they could get some; he said that he could go up to Cabanas, but I told him not to go to the trouble. The manager even came over and said they could get me some from Cabanas. It was overwhelmingly good service, but I still declined. It was nice to know they'd go that extra mile to please just one of a couple thousand guests.

We watched the crew conducting lifeboat exercises from our luxurious window seat. The server joked he told them to do it because it was getting too bright for us.

On the other hand, the assistant server forgot to bring around the pastry tray to our table, which left DH disappointed. According to my notes: "DH still moaning about it four days later."

It was raining on and off that day, so we found deck chairs next to the window on the adult pool deck. There's not much to report, other than our 10: 00 a.m. drinks were very pleasant. Honeymoon!

After lunch at Cabanas, the sun was coming out for good, so we moved ourselves up to Satellite Falls on deck 13. It's a quiet, lesser-known place on the ship, less loud music and more falling water. The soaking pool could be a little deeper, but otherwise it's the best place for soaking and sun on the ship.

It is also an excellent place to get your photos of San Juan without actually disembarking.

Palo, round 2. So let's try this again.

IMG_0336_zpsb0a16be7.jpg

The antipasto was great, especially the giant, juicy olives.

IMG_0341_zps9ab62775.jpg

The appetizers were a heavy, creamy next course. White bean soup. A subtle but tasty flavour. The julienne of radish gave some fresh bite to the dish.

IMG_0344_zpsb67ac6d7.jpg

Portobello and polenta. The polenta was rich and creamy, but the balance between the portobello and polenta was a bit off.

IMG_0343_zps0e081011.jpg

Seafood risotto. The description in the menu read "with shrimp, clams and mussels," so it was unfortunate to get some surprise bits of fish and squid added.

IMG_0349_zps1491dd7d.jpg

As we were eating the ship began to sail away and we were afforded some beautiful views as the sun went down and the city lit up.

The lobster parpardelle was similar to the ravioli, but the dusting of chili powder and drizzle of chili oil gave it a nice kick.

IMG_0360_zpsd9598497.jpg

Lobster ravioli. The "light" beurre blanc sauce was very rich with a little too much of it on the plate. The lobster inside the ravioli was overcooked.

IMG_0347_zps498c8441.jpg

The scallops on stewed white beans sounded nice on paper, but the delicate seafood was too much textural contrast to the dense beans.

IMG_0362_zps7a645af7.jpg

The branzino roasted in parchment paper was a miss, probably the weakest entree on the cruise. The fish ostensibly steams inside its own juices, along with the side vegetables, but the resulting dish was oily and lacked flavour, save for the astringent lemon wedges added to the pouch.

IMG_0363_zps4c1fdab0.jpg

There's no photo, but in between entrees and desserts we were given a tasty (and entirely necessary) lemon and blueberry sorbet. And a little treat from the restaurant.

IMG_0372_zpsd913b315.jpg

Palo's justifiably famous chocolate soufflé was light, airy. There was some delay in arriving, but it gave us time to digest the previous five courses. When the soufflés did arrive, they came with a kindly decorative message from the kitchen.

IMG_0371_zps5b6c88c3.jpg

The dinner ended with a pair of tasty (and entirely necessary) calvados ices.

Even if the food wasn't as good as the first time we ate at Palo, the highlights of the evening were the professional but personable service from our server, Ophelie, and the lovely view of San Juan as we were leaving port.

When we got back to the room, our bed was covered with rose petals and a pair of heart tentacles, I mean swans kissing.

IMG_0378_zpsb7dc057e.jpg

We threw the rose petals at each other and yelled, "ROMANCE!" Ah, married life.
