Why pick WeGoShop or GardenGrocer over Disney?

I'm planning for an upcoming trip and was researching grocery services. Why do people choose to use WeGoShop or GardenGrocer instead of the grocery service provided by DVC on the dvcmember site?

I checked the price-sheet at WeGoShop and they charge $22 for the first $100 plus an additional 3% for Disney Guests. Disney only charges $5.

So the obvious choice appears to be Disney...but I can't imagine Disney being cheaper on something! So I know I'm missing something.

Disney's selections are limited to the items found in their gift store grocery shops.

The other services offer full supermarket selections. That is probably the biggest difference. So depends on how much and what your needs are.

If you need any amount of groceries, you'll quickly make-up that $22 and 3% by using the Disney delivery. The cost of items at the WDW stores is much higher than at the grocery stores. It is actually $17 for WeGoShop for up to $100 worth of groceries, and the 3% is if you use a credit card.

By the way, Marge is wonderful! We used her in August and she was a doll! She brought everything that was asked for and was very efficient. She also will discount a second delivery if you need it while you are still on vacation. She said to call her for anything, medicine, more food, etc. I highly recommend WeGoShop.

The WDW stores have such a limited supply of things. If you want fresh veggies or fruit, cold meat, anything like that, it's not happening unless you use an outside company.

    No. 1 reason: PRICE!

You really should try gardengrocer. Compare their prices to Disney's and you'll be astonished how much more expensive Disney really is. And be sure to read the ounces/size of each product.

We've used gardengrocer and have been totally happy with them.

I used GardenGrocer in Oct. and in January and it was great. CS was wonderful and everything was brought at the correct time both times. I will use them again and again and will recommend them highly.

I've used Wegoshop since 2003. Marge is terrific. I like that you do not have to pick from a preset list but can request any size or brand you want. DH loves that his beer is deliverd.
We look forward to seeing Marge each trip.

Thanks to all for the feedback.

Now that I look closer at the prices, and sizes of items - I can see that the DVC grocery list is lacking in many ways compared to typical grocery-store sizes/selection.

We just used Garden grocer in Jan. and we'll use them again because we have toddlers and it was nice to have the types of yogurt, fresh fruit and lunchmeat that they like. When we were in disney in october the 2 yr old ate too many fries and junk foods so I was happy to be able to bring healthy food to the parks. It was a $12 flat fee which was worth it however the fresh fruit was very expensive. Much more than you'd pay in the store.

We will be trying Garden Grocer for the first time on our July trip. The selection looks great, and the ability to add items not on their list in the comments section is great. The fresh produce does look quite expensive. I think that my favorite Fuji apples are $1.19 each. They'd better be good apples!

Maybe the price went up, but the posted price on the internet for WeGoShop is $22 for up to $100 worth of groceries.

    Check it out here:

    WeGoShop Orlando http://www.wegoshop.com/location/wgs-location15-2.htm

    • Grocery total up to $100.00 = $22.00 shop & delivery fee
    • Grocery total between $100.00 - $200.00 = $27.00 shop & delivery fee
    • Grocery total between $200.00 - $300.00 = $37.00 shop & delivery fee
    • Grocery total over $300.00 = 12% of grocery total shop & delivery fee

And I just discovered that Goodings Grocery Store seems to deliver for a flat $20 charge to disney resorts. (minimum order amount of $50)

Wegoshop is $17 if you're staying on Disney property(up to $100 order). Marge is wonderful! She provides a sales reciept, and you only pay the original cost of the items. You can also choose which store you would like for her to shop at for you. FYI I paid her with a CC in December 2007 and did not incur the additional 3% fee. I will never use any other grocery service as long as Wegoshop is in business.

I guess it depends in which state you live. Using GG for our upcoming trip and produce prices are comparable to what we have here at home. And though some items are higher priced than they were a year ago, but I think that's due to problems farmers had this past year regarding weather conditions.

But other than produce, GG items are close in price to what we pay at home.

Sorry about that - You are all correct - I found the webpages with Disney prices...

    http://www.wegoshop.com/location/wgs-location15.htm

    • Grocery total up to $100.00 = $17.00 shop & delivery fee
    • Grocery total between $100.00 - $200.00 = $22.00 shop & delivery fee
    • Grocery total between $200.00 - $300.00 = $32.00 shop & delivery fee
    • Grocery total over $300.00 = 12% of grocery total shop & delivery fee

And I think I'll place my order with them - everybody seems to universally praise Marge!

We just got back, and used garden grocer. I agree the fresh fruit is expensive (more than what was listed on the package of cut fresh watermelon and melon).
I do have to say it was very easy, and simple. The other thing that was awesome was that we ran out of formula towards the end of the week...with a quick phone call to garden grocer (after the resort could do nothing), she sent it right over that night and did not charge a second delivery fee (she said they understand sometimes you run out of things half way through and did not charge the 2nd fee). I thought that was great of them!!!

Garden Grocer worked out very well for us this past Jan. Prices were pretty on what we spend at the local stores without coupons or specials. I did think that produce was a little pricey, but I don't know what the going rate for apples in FL is. I would have thought that the oranges would have been cheaper.

The only thing that they subbed was Jif peanut butter for our Peter Pan. Ugh...
But, they had the english muffins that my wife wanted, so she was happy.

We prefer wegoshop because you can choose your items, sizes, brands & the store that they will shop at. You also only pay what the cost of the item is plus delivery. With gardengrocer, you're limited to what they offer on their website and their prices seem a bit higher on most items. Marge really was great to work with!

Thinking of using one of these off-site services for our upcoming November trip.

How does delivery work? Do you need to be present in your room to accept it? Is it dropped at Bell Services? If you have items needing refrigeration, does Bell Services do cold storage? Thanks for your help.

This thread should be closed and a new one started if needed, since it is from 2008. Much too confusing in that it lists prices & other information that is no longer accurate.
