We' ve discussed scary movies. How about scary books?

Truman Capote's In Cold Blood still haunts me.

I started reading Stephen King's It, but only got to the end of the 1st chapter. :scared1:

my checkbook day before payday :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Oh, In Cold Blood was scary especially because it was true :guilty: The scariest I ever read was Stephen King's Salem's Lot......read it as a young teen and the dang thing scared the crap out of me :scared1:

Stephen King's It scared the heebie jeebies out of me!!

The Amityville Horror was pretty scary as well...

Dean Koontz's "Velocity" was nonstop.

His books have been scaring me for years.

"Carrie" by King was very frightening when I was in middle school reading it!

Stephen King's It did IT for me. But then I fear clowns to begin with....
Of course, Charles Manson's Helter Skelter is nothing to sneeze at either.

Thomas Harris' Red Dragon and Dean Koontz's Intenstity.

I was going to say Silence of the Lambs but then you mentioned Red Dragon, both had me pulling away to catch my breath.

It was pretty creepy even for a SK book.
Robin cook writes some stuff that to me is pretty scary because it seems plausible.

King's PET SEMETERY scared the willies outta me. I refused to even see the movie!!

Red Dragon is one of the best books I've ever read. :thumbsup2

I read the Exorcist when I was in jr. high. Scared the heck out of me and I ended up putting the book in the garage, and then finally threw it away. Then I read Alfred Hitchcock's short stories -- years later & I still remember them ::::shudder:::: Then, when I was 19 or so I read Helter Skelter - that one really scared me, especially since it was true. You'd think I'd stop reading scary books, but I read some Dean Koontz books - couldn't even finish Intensity :scared1:

Lots of Steven King stuff scares me- The Shining, The Stand, and Pet Sematary are 3 that come to mind right away.

IT was the only book that ever made me scream! I also found the Steven King short story The Mist extremely frightening.

YES!! I forgot about that one- it was very frightening.

I love SK but Dean Koontz is so much more scarier than SK hands down!

I think it was Dragon Tears I read when I was real young--At the beginning the story talks about the little kid in his room who is convinced there is something under his bed so he shoves one of those plastic wiffle ball bats under there and whatever is under there GRABS it!

Oh yeah-Scared the crap outta me!! After that I would jump off my bed to land about 3 feet over just incase there was anything under my bed!! :rotfl:

That book hooked me on Dean Koontz--I just picked up "The Face" so we'll see what he has me doing to avoid the boogeyman soon enough!!
