What Happens at the Beach Club... Travels with Teens, Take Two, (PTR) 4/6 p. 29

Looks like a great time so far! I am in definite need of one of those Sunken Treasures- yum!
Did u ever find out what triggered the alarm?
Reminds me of my dorm days. We used to say there were no secrets during fire drills :rolleyes1

Finally getting caught up-loved strolling through the resorts with you :lovestruc
Love the porthole pic and the wee monkey lamp :)

Thanks!

I like the look of the porthole picture, but I wish I had the time to center it better. I needed to snap the picture quickly because people were walking into the shot.

That is the first time I have seen the monkey lamp. It is no fish lamp but it was really cute!

:)

I don't know how I feel right now. I'm impatient just like a certain Ninja Mom, but I also have the most respect for Dee's organization and appreciate the importance of keeping this report on the planned schedule for updates.

I'm so confused.

(Maybe you could give us one little sneak preview of the pool pictures?)

I got this Dee!

Here is a sneak peak of our Stormalong Bay pictures....

In this shot we capture a chair hog enjoying the bountiful bliss that is our beloved pool.

~NM

Thanks, Ninja!

Janet- hope that picture will tide you over until I post the pool pictures. Next time.

:thumbsup2

I'm playing catch up...again.

I'm usually up by 6 or 6:30 a.m. at Disney...that's sleeping in for me as I'm up at 5:30 in the morning on work days.

I have to say that I do LOVE the lobby of the Beach Club...it really is very pretty.

Beautiful pictures of that and the lobby at the Yacht Club and the walk between the two resorts.

Glad to hear there are some things you like about the resort. ;)

I love how peaceful it is at Disney in the morning.

:goodvibes:

Can't wait for the updates..and I SO need to find you on FB :) scolding from DH....hmmm gotta see THAT selfie ;)

Well, it wasn't so much the selfie as the commentary I posted with it.

:)

I'm an early morning riser too, so I know the feeling. :rotfl2:

I love each and every one of your BC/YC pictures. Your passion for both of those resorts just shows through!

Well, I'm impressed with your early morning activities which usually involve running. My tour was at a much slower pace.

There are always lots of details to explore in Disney resorts. The Beach Club is "home" for me, and I spend virtual time there very day, but I still find new things whenever I am actually there.

:thumbsup2

The Sunken Treasure earned its reputation as a favorite drink, but it actually happened after it was removed from the menu.

We have heard conflicting reasons for the fire alarm. One person was told it was an actual electrical fire, but I don't think that was the case since we were let back into the resort in about 50 minutes. Alarms have been going off periodically for the last month or so and may be related to the electrical work being done during the refurbishment work at the Beach Club.

I guess that's true about no secrets- we shared a couple with each other and you all in reporting about the fire alarm.

:)

A group of us had breakfast reservations at the Captain's Grille first thing Monday morning. NinjaMom was there with her DH and two of her boys, JanetMom and her DH, HockeyMomR (Rebecca) joined us for coffee only.

This was my first time meeting Janet. We definitely have similar senses of humour and for the rest of our trip we made each other laugh whenever we were together.

As far as theming, Captain’s Grille certainly isn’t one of the most iconic places on property- it is tasteful and has a lot of nautical touches, but it doesn’t scream “Disney!” when you walk in the door. However, one of the “new” additions to the restaurant is a set of pictures featuring a sailboat that moves from one picture to the next and has waves and clouds that move.

Pretty cool!

We decided to get a picture of just us DIS-gals.

Although the restaurant offers a great buffet, which also includes custom omelets that are prepared in the kitchen and are brought to your table, nobody opted for that choice. I was having so much fun with my new friends that I didn’t even get up from the table to take pictures of the buffet!

BAD DISSER!!!

But here is a description of the items offered on the buffet and if you need pictures, there are several links on the Dining Post (Post 7) on the Beach and Yacht Club FAQ thread:

Breakfast Buffet - Seasonal Fruit, Yogurt, Assorted Pastries, Smoked Salmon, Bread Pudding, Oatmeal, Cold Kelloggs Cereals, Bacon, Sausage, Savory Hash Browns, Scrambled Eggs, and Chef’s Frittata. Includes Coffee, Tea, Juice, or Soft Drinks - $16.99 *

This might be a good time to mention that there is a 10% discount if you use a Disney Visa card to pay your bill at the Captain's Grille for breakfast or lunch.

As I looked over the menu, the Citrus-scented French toast caught my eye, but I had promised someone who posted on this thread that I would try the Dark Chocolate Waffles. What's a girl to do?

I ordered both!

For research purposes, of course.

So what are my thoughts? I preferred the waffles.

Here's some pictures of my two breakfast entrees along with a couple of other orders at the table.

Citrus-scented French Toast - Challah Bread with Lavender-infused Strawberry Compote and White Chocolate Ganache with your choice of Bacon or Sausage - $11.99

Dark Chocolate Waffles - Dried Cherry Compote, Espresso-Mascarpone Cream, Chocolate Shavings, and a choice of Bacon or Sausage - $10.99

Lobster Omelet - Butter-poached Lobster, Asparagus, Chive Cream, and Savory Hash Browns - $13.49

Poached Eggs - Lump Crab Salad, Prosciutto, Potato Rösti, and Herb Hollandaise - $13.99

A couple of people in our group ordered this

I had two waffles and a piece of the French toast left over, which I took back to my room. At that point in our meal, one of my quirks came out in the open. When I am back home and eating out with my family and friends, I bring my own containers for my leftovers. I dislike Styrofoam, and I have a lot of perfectly-sized plastic containers, so as long as I remember to bring them with me to the restaurant, it is a very convenient and earth-friendly thing to do.

My new friends (just like my own friends back at home) had a few laughs at my expense, and one of them did not even believe it when I said I keep the containers in my car so I have them when I need them. So she asked me to text a picture to her when I got back home to prove it, and I did.

After breakfast, some of us parted ways. Rebecca went off to join her mother for some fun at Hollywood Studios, I think. Janet and her husband left, Ninja’s family had plans of their own that didn’t include her, so Ninja and I went on a quest to see if we could find some treasure at the Beach Club.

That picture with the boat is SO DARN COOL. But even cooler is a great big DISmeet breakfast. :goodvibes

I've never been a French Toast fan, but I do love me some waffles. I'm like Donkey that way. And those waffles look AMAZING.

I'd repeat that breakfast experience anytime! Both the food and the company were among the highlights of our trip.

Breakfast / um coffee was fun! Was a nice way to have another pre-meet meet.

And I love the containers! Guilty as charged with the picture proof. :)

Look forward to the pool team practice pictures. Shame on me for missing our first practice, but just needed to get mom on her favorite ride!

Rebecca

The only reason I ordered the same thing as JanetMom was because she steals from my plate when we dine out together. That dish on the top of the table at my spot was a ruse to hide the lobster omelet that was living on my lap. I would wait until she was distracted (Hint: it was NOT a long wait) and then I would take a forkful of eggy lobster goodness from my lap.

Food Critic ALERT: Having previously had both the Poached Eggs - Lump Crab Salad, Prosciutto, Potato Rösti, and Herb Hollandaise and the Lobster Omelet (on a different trip ; ) I would go with the Lobster Omelet for the win.

DECENCY ALERT! WHOOP WHOOP!!! DECENCY ALERT!

Really, that should be LACK of DECENCY ALERT! WHOOP WHOOP!!! LACK OF DECENCY ALERT!

In the next tawdry episode of this trip report NM will be making an appearance in her swim suit. Do not say that you have not been warned.

Thank you that is all...

The Breakfast Club post is great! I love how well you ladies all get along! DISers are awesome :grouphug: The Captain's Grille buffet sounds like a great value especially for Disney. :goodvibes

Aw man,... I had no idea you were keeping the lobster on your lap. I would have totally stolen some of that.

Clearly how well we get along is all based on what NM orders for breakfast.

All I've learned about stealing food, I've learned from her.

I'm behind again (and I think seriously behind on your other TR). :faint:

Chocolate Waffles? I would go back to Captain's Grille just for those.

I enjoyed watching the sailboat and the moving clouds when we had dinner there in September.

I like your idea of carrying your own containers for leftovers. It saves the environment with those stupid styrofoam thingies and it probably keeps better as well. I give you an A+ for your idea. :thumbsup2

I think that the moving picture/mural/whatever it is you are supposed to call them, are neat. I like the fact that not every single restaurant or resort screams Disney.

I am not so sure that I'd like the chocolate waffles...may be too much chocolate (if there is such a thing). The french toast, on the other hand, looks delicious. I see nothing wrong or weird about bringing along your own containers for any leftovers. Styrofoam can sometimes smell weird. Not that I sit there and smell styrofoam plates or anything but they do. :rolleyes1

Even if the food hadn't been good, it sounds like the company would have more than made up for it. Another :thumbsup2 Dismeet!

Rob, I know that you understand the beauty of a solo trip surrounded by a group of friends.

The waffles were good for breakfast and great for a late afternoon snack!

Good food and good company-cant think of a better way to start the day :thumbsup2

It was awesome! You would have fit in quite nicely in our group.

It was certainly a more "civilized" meet than our midnight get-together!

Gotta make mom happy. FYI, everyone, Carol's favorite ride is Tower of Terror!

:woohoo:

I haven't had the buffet, but I have read many positive reviews and seen some great pictures.

Well, as you discovered, you weren't as far behind on the DL report as you thought. I finally posted an update yesterday, 10 days after the last one.

The waffles were yummy.

Isn't that cool? I have been to CG 5 times, breakfast, lunch and dinner 3 times, but I have never been seated close to the pictures. :( I wouldn't have known about about it if I hadn't read about it in a trip report (Dawn's Drama report, I think)

I'm pretty proud that I bring my own "doggy bags". Why not! The thing that annoys me is when I forget to bring them in to the restaurant and have to go back to the van to get them.

:goodvibes

The Captain's Grille does not really have a strong theme or gimmick, but the food is awesome and it is rarely crowded in there, so it is really a hidden gem.

There are a LOT of options on the breakfast menu that I would love to try.

::yes::

Thanks for backing me up on the dislike of Styrofoam!

:thumbsup2

After everyone parted ways following breakfast, I went back to the room to change into my swimsuit. We had an important mission- our Stormalong Bay Synchronized Pool Tube Team scheduled our first official event for that night and we had not even had a single practice session yet! And the news was even more dire- NinjaMom and I were the only ones who showed up for practice! The rest all mumbled something about “theme parks” and “Fast Passes” and took off as quickly as they could in the opposite direction.

Once I had changed, I waited for my teammate in the lobby.

At last- I had a chance to visit with my favorite Cast Member and dear friend Teena! Of course, she was swarmed by other fans when I arrived… ScottMC was there, and another DISer, Mousegear and her son. Scott stayed for a little bit, then he was off to chase a Yeti or something. When Ninja arrived, we lined up for a photo. I haven’t asked Mousegear for permission to post pictures of her family, so I will block out their faces. This will also give them an opportunity to deny ever having met us if necessary.

I would like to point out a couple of important fashion statements- Ninja, of course, was sporting her official team t-shirt (I’ll wear mine later). My shirt has the image of a boat and the words M/V Teena Babes. Where did I get the shirt? It was given to me in a bag of hand-me-downs 3 or 4 years ago and it is just absolute coincidence that it is so meaningful to me.

We chatted for awhile, then figured we had monopolized Teena for long enough, so we parted ways. For now.

Ninja had to go back to her room for something and I followed her. When we got in I heard this strange noise coming from the closet. I opened up the door and was amazed to see a small black suitcase rocking back and forth. While my friend was in the “little ninjas room”, I slowly unzipped the case and out popped

Buzzy the Fly!

I don’t know how he got in there, but boy was he relieved to be released!

Having done my good deed for the day, it was off to Stormalong Bay!

When I next laid eyes on Ninja Mom, she had slipped into her subtle Ninja disguise. Whenever she is roaming the resort she cannot resist undoing the heinous acts of evildoers that occasionally inhabit the resort. The world is a safer place as she snatches up abandoned pool towels and scans the deck for illegal pool hoppers using her special Ninja Goggles. These Ninja Goggles help to hide her true identity, for if she was recognized she would end up spending the entire morning autographing Speedos and Mankinis.

Undetected, we made our way to the pool in search of the perfect spot to stash our flip flops and water wings. Finding a pool chair was thirsty work so we ordered up a batch of Sunken Treasures and told the Bartender to "Keep 'em comin!!"

I now present to you, the Stormalong Bay Synchronized Pool Tube Team

Warmups:

Arriving at Stormalong Bay, Ninja Mom prepares to do battle with the chair hogs.

Unfortunately the chair hogs are taking a new tack and trying to reserve chairs that they aren't using with Sunken Treasures. Rest assured Ninja Mom and I consumed every one of these cups in a selfless effort to thwart their "piggy-ness".

Here I am on the sandy play area of Stormalong Bay corrupting the morals of a pair of child eating alligators.

Never one to share, Ninja Mom rounds up all the unattended buckets so that just she can play with them.

Warmups completed, it was time to enter the water:

After beating Ninja Mom senseless with a pair of pool noodles I leap to the rescue of an unattended Sunken Treasure!

Ninja Mom fails in an attempt to find an artistic way to mount the pool tube for the Synchronized Pool Tube Team.

Here Ninja Mom narrowly averts an untimely death from a drive-by tubing collision. Both parties exchanged insurance information and were soon on their way.

Lacking the simple coordination needed to use a pool tube, Ninja Mom suffers yet another embarrassing wipe out.

Despite her valiant efforts to turn the lazy river into a bubbly jacuzzi, Ninja Mom fails once again and succeeds only in blowing a hole in her shorts and her mask completely off.

After alarming the lifeguards with her lack of pool tube prowess, it was agreed that Ninja Mom would stick to a pair of training noodles for the foreseeable future.

After another tough Synchronized Pool Tube Team practice Ninja Mom hits the training room for some much needed hydrotherapy.

Next Up: Invading the Presidential Suite
