It’s time for my second trip report! But first, let me introduce you to our cast!

I’m Melissa, a 28 year old Registered Nurse and mother from Maryland. I am mostly a stay at home mom to an amazing 10 month old baby boy.

    Disney History
I have loved Disney and Disney World for as long as I can remember. I went to Disney World for the first time in June 1998 when my dance studio danced there for Magic Music Days. I was hooked after that and could not wait to go back. Of course I swore I would never go to Disney again during the summer. Little did I know, my next trip would be in June again, exactly 10 years later for my Honeymoon! While planning the trip that is when I found and joined the Dis. My DH and I were married on May 31, 2008 and during our honeymoon we stayed at Pop Century. I remember coming home from that trip sad because I had no idea when we would be back to Disney to vacation again. Again, little did I know it would not be far off. Thanks to the 4/3 promotion we were able to go again in March 2009. Since we loved Pop Century so much we stayed there again. We ended up going back again in August 2009 for free dining and became deluxe snobs at the Wilderness Lodge for DH’s 25th birthday. After that we ended up being away from Disney for far too long – about 20 months too long. DH started a new job and I went to nursing school in 2010 and we just couldn’t get away. When DH had a year in at his new job, we were able to slip away for a week in Disney World in May 2011 after I finished my 3rd semester of nursing school. Although we said it every time we had been to Disney (at this point 4 trips together!) that was to be our “last trip to Disney before we had kids” and this time, we were right! I found out I was pregnant in November of 2011.

Long story short, this trip was originally supposed to happen in January 2013 and there were supposed to be more people with us. But let’s just talk about all the characters that were on this trip on this trip.

Besides myself, there was my amazing husband Daniel. This was also his 6th trip to Disney, our 5th together. He had been to Disney World one time before we were married with his family in February 2005, but they only went o Magic Kingdom and Epcot. He is a Disney freak like me and loves all things Disney. We consider ourselves Disney experts and laugh when our family/friends try to give us tips. Yeah, like we didn’t already know that… LOL!

Then there was the newest mousketeer. Our baby boy Gavin was born on July 25, 2012. He was 9.5 months old on this trip. Honestly, it was the best time/age to take him. But you’ll hear more about that later! He doesn’t watch TV so he doesn’t have any favorite characters yet but he does have a Winnie the Pooh nursery and has been looking at Winnie the Pooh and friends since he was born. My goal for the trip for him was to get him his first set of Mouse Ears, get his first hair cut on Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom, and get a picture of him with Mickey Mouse for his first birthday party invitations.

And last but definitely not least was my youngest brother Brandan, or Uncle Brandan as he was on this trip! He is 21 and a college student. He just graduated from college here and is transferring to another school on the eastern shore and moving this summer and we will certainly miss him! But anyway…. He went to Disney world once before in June 1998 when he was 6. Unfortunately he doesn’t remember much. Even if he did, a lot changed in 15 years! He says his favorite Disney character is crush from Finding Nemo. He was also really into Toy Story as a kid, so I think he was looking forward to meeting Buzz and Woody. He was really excited to see some of the interactive stuff like the Monsters Inc Laugh Floor and Turtle Talk with Crush. He was really excited for some of the thrill rides as well. This trip would not have been possible without him. He was such an amazing uncle and help overall on this trip.

So what were we celebrating? SO MUCH! Gavin’s first trip to Disney, Brandan’s birthday, Brandan’s college graduation, my first mother’s day, our 5th trip to Disney together, and our 5th wedding anniversary! Can I also say this was a celebration of the fact that this trip even happened in the first place because there were a lot of road blocks on the way to Orlando, that’s for sure….

This is important to know before I get to Day 0... :rotfl:

So planning this trip actually stressed me out and drove me nuts. Maybe it was all the changes and having to re-do all the planning after moving the trip from January to May. It was also my first trip as a mother. I found it really hard to plan the trip around Gavin in advance not knowing what he was going to be like as a 9.5 month old.

I am a planner and very organized by nature. I had a to do list for the trip and a timeline of when things needed to be done. Like I said, I had also been stressing out about everything and it was driving me crazy. As we were down to a week before the trip I was feeling the heat. But DH made me feel better as the weekend before the trip approached. He was going to be off all day Sunday (May 5th) and into Monday, work Monday night, Tuesday, and then be off all day Wednesday. Thursday was the day we were driving to the airport, and Friday was the morning we were flying out. That gave me plenty of time to finish the t-shirts I was making, do laundry, clean the house, and pack. Believe it or not it was impossible to do all those tasks and entertain my 9 month old :confused3 That also gave DH time to get the oil changed in the Jeep and mow the grass and do a few things like that to get us ready for the trip. I was beginning to de-stress about the trip, finally.

And then (you knew this was coming, right?) Friday night baby didn't sleep well. He was up a few times and after I got him back him rocked back to sleep around 3am, I was falling asleep with him in the chair and was trying to break the habit of one of us falling asleep with him in the chair so I asked DH if he could just hold DS for a few minutes and then putting him down in his crib, I just couldn't stay away anymore. So about 30-60 minutes later (time is fuzzy) I heard my DH yelling for me to come help him. I was SO out of it, I had just fell asleep and there is DH sitting on the floor with his legs under DSs jumper, and DS is laying on the floor next to him asleep. I was so out of this, none of this looked weird to me. On instinct I scooped baby up and rocked him and DH says something along the lines of "my foot is fine, thank you" I think he also told me what happened and I sent him back to bed, but not before he almost fell and knocked a picture off the wall. Again, my brain could not process what was going on. I rocked DS for a few minutes and put him down in his crib and went back to bed and passed out. All I remember DH saying is something about a welt on his foot, he was going to throw up and pass out. I think I told him to eat some saltines and get some sleep. He also said I looked at his foot with the flash light on my phone and told him it was fine. I slept for about an hour and I do remember as I was tossing and turning DH saying something about his foot hurt really bad and he couldn't sleep. He was sitting up playing games on his phone.

When I woke up and saw his foot and said "OH MY GOODNESS YOUR FOOT IS BROKEN!" and I think I got a few "I have been trying to tell yous". So I immediately got my mom on the phone and told her what happened and asked her to come stay with DS who was sleeping so I could take him to the ER since it was early Saturday morning. She told me that she thought my nurse instincts were off. I know I sound like a jerk in this story, but I was seriously so tired and out of it I could not process what was going on at the time! In the time between calling my mom and her getting to our house, DS woke up so I stayed with him and she took DH to the ER. They were in and out and home within an hour. Broken foot, of course. The NP he saw in the ER only put him off work a week and said to take it easy and he would be fine to go to Disney World IN FIVE DAYS. I wasn't buying it and wanted to hear it from an orthopaedic specialist. We couldn't even call to get an appointment until Monday and we were supposed to leave Thursday and I was not optimistic we would get an appointment.

I was in SUCH a bad mood. I wasn't mad at DH or taking it out on him. But I was stressed and had so much to do before we left and now DH could not help me. He needed my help too! I felt like I had 2 babies and I was overwhelmed. My first reaction was to cancel the trip. Yes, that is how bad my mood was I didn't want to go to Disney! It just sounded like a lot of work to me. Not a vacation at all. Monday morning DH called and got an appointment with the specialist for Wednesday afternoon, so at least that fell into place. But I was still up in the air with whether we were going or not.

On Monday DS and I had errands to run and had to leave DH at home for a few hours in the afternoon and I got an idea. I decided to tell him I canceled the trip and planned to surprise him Wednesday night after his appointment. We had a little tiff that morning because I had been complaining about how much I had to do. So I thought I'd tell him we weren't going, somehow pack in secret (therefor not complaining about how much I had to do for the trip) and surprise! Everyone was in on it, I even had my brother text him telling him he wasn't mad that we weren't going haha. We were all set until Tuesday night. My MIL and SIL were supposed to come over (they live 5 minutes away but hadn't seen DS since Christmas which is just crazy. They found out we were going to Disney and started acting like they just found out we were moving overseas for a year and HAD to see him) well of course they didn't show up at 6pm like they were supposed to and TEXTED my phone at 8 to see if they could come over, and I didn't get it until a little while later because its always on silent. Well when I called her back, DS was cranky and I was about to put him in the tub and put him to bed and they wanted to know if it was a bad time? YES! They asked if they could come over the next night and I said I didn't know, I had a lot of stuff going on and I would let them know. As I was bathing DS, DH kept badgering me and finally I yelled "DO YOU WANT TO GO TO DISNEY WORLD OR NOT ON FRIDAY?" haha so it was out of the bag, nothing like I intended, oh well. At least he was happy.

Wednesday after DH's appointment I ran a few errands and we ended up being at my parents house until after dinner and I still had not finished the laundry or packed and time was ticking. As soon as we got home I started pulling stuff out and the main level of our house was a mess. DS was finishing his dinner in his high chair and I was starting laundry. There was a knock on the door. I wasn't going to answer it. I don't answer the door unless I know someone is coming. But for some reason I looked out the window and saw a blonde girl and realized it was my MIL and SIL. PANTS! Uninvited, they showed up to see DS and brought his Christmas presents. So needless to say they were here until it was time to bath him and put him to bed and I got nothing done. I ended up being up til 6 am doing laundry and doing stuff (looking back now I cannot figure out why I had so much to do? lol) and when I crashed at 6 am I still wasn't packed yet and we were supposed to leave at noon on Thursday to drive to the airport. I didn't think I was ever going to have us packed...

Welcome to all my new readers! I will be relying & updating tomorrow. We unfortunately had to head to Baltimore this week for my uncles funeral. Coincidentally it landed during a planned overnight trip to Baltimore to see an orioles game so we actually did both. We just got home last night. I feel like we've barely been home since may 8th so ready to settle in!

Today is DH & I's 5th wedding anniversary. What are we doing? Nothing lol we forgot to make plans! We went to pick up our weekly CSA share at the farmers market and DS fell asleep so right now were sitting in the driveway while he naps haha. We're going to see a few family members who are passing through from Baltimore here shortly and then head to the market. Maybe we will pick up a movie from redbox.

Tomorrow afternoon DS and DH are going to my parents house for a little bit to watch the o's game (we don't have cable) and I will have the house to myself for the first time since before DS was born! What am I doing? Cleaning and working on my TR without interruptions lol!

Please excuse Dee for being terribly behind on her DISing lately!

    *spoiler alert*
Life gets really crazy when your babies are in middle school and high school! :lmao:

Absolutely loved your first trip report and I will be back to catch up on your trip report later today, but I want to make sure I subscribe.

Just read your intro and pre-trip chapter. Wow! Just Wow!

I knew about the complications executing the family trip and that the lineup was going to be you three and your brother.

I can't believe your husband broke his foot! Yikes!

I know that state of tired, and it played a part in my last trip to Disney, too. When I was chaperoning the class trip I hung up on a student who called me late at night to tell me he threw up (well, I did tell him to call housekeeping and call the nurse before I hung up him)

Hate it when the best laid plans, or at least attempts at best laid plans, get messed with! So hard to get things done with a 9 month old, and then to have unexpected visitors...

    :faint:

I'll be interested in hearing how it all comes together. Hope your travels are smooth!

So I could tell you a bunch of excuses (they were valid!) of why I didn't update on Saturday like I said I would but I'll just cut to the chase... the start of the TR! I will warn you this update is text heavy and only has a few terrible pictures.

    Day 0 - Thursday May 9, 2013

So before we even got to day zero, there was some drama, no? I organized and packed until I passed out around 6am. When I fell asleep we were not anywhere near ready to go and we were set to leave at noon to drive to the airport. I knew baby would be waking me up before 8am so no problem :rotfl:

Here were the plans for Day 0 from my PTR:

Brandan needed to head to school to take a final that would not be available until 11am. I was hoping it would take him a while so I wouldn't be the reason we were late to hit the road. I texted him at noon and said I was nowhere near ready, hoping that he had woken up late and was running behind as well. No dice, he said "You better hop to it! I'm done my test at school" PANTS. Well I texted him back and asked if he could help us entertain Gavin so we could finish up and he came down when he was done. I'm not sure what time he got here, probably after 1. My sweet baby boy is a mamas boy and has had serious stranger anxiety from the get go - even with Grandma and Grandpa and his uncles. Not today. He laughed and giggled and played with Uncle Brandan while I packed and got the house ready for a week away. (Again, I cannot for the life of me remember why I had SO MUCH to do besides packing? The laundry was done by that point...) Anyway,

Brandan left to go back to their house around 4. I nursed Gavin and he fell asleep. Unfortunately I had to wake him up to change his diaper and he wasn't all that happy about being awake. I had hoped that he would just sleep in the car. We left our house to head to my parents around 4:40pm. We loaded up Brandan's stuff and said our goodbyes and luckily were on the road to the hotel at 5:05pm. It is approx a 2.5 hour drive to Baltimore, depending on traffic.

Gavin was a little fussy in the car, but fell asleep at 5:38pm (yes I had nothing better to do in the backseat but document everything haha). We stopped at a Hardee's because we were all starving about a half hour into our trip. As we got through the drive thru Gavin woke up, only getting about a half hour nap. We don't have a Hardees where we live so we like to stop here on our way in/out of town when we can. The boys wanted a huge box of chicken tenders and I kept telling them we couldn't eat that many. Well it's a good thing they didn't listen to me. We got a 15 piece and a fry to share and they were long gone. Gavin was pretty fussy in the car for the majority of the trip. We ended up stopping at the nice rest stop and I hoped maybe if he nursed, he would sleep. He had little to no interest in nursing in the car or outside of the car. I even tried to feed him solids and he just ended up messy because he threw the food. While we were sitting at the picnic table I saw one of my co-workers from the pharmacy. I cannot go to Disney without a sighting of someone from home! We chatted to her for a few minutes. She was also on her way to a hotel for the night in Baltimore for a 8am flight out of BWI to Ft. Lauderdale for a cruise. She was flying AirTran and we were flying Southwest at about the same time so we figured we would see her in the morning at the airport. Gavin continued to be fussy all the way to Baltimore. We finally pulled into the Hilton at 8:30pm. Brandan went in to check us in and I ended up getting baby out of the car and walking with him. Brandan gave me a key and the room number and we headed to our room. Brandan and DH unloaded the car and parked it. Gavin and I got lost on our way to the elevator but we found the pool! Eventually I actually followed the signs to the elevators and we found our room on the 2nd floor. The hotel was really nice and our room was really nice too. Gavin was super happy to be out of the car and loved looking around. I kept telling him the room was "fancy" and smiled and finally clapped for the first time! He kept doing it. Of course when Brandan and DH came back to the room, he wouldn't do it. He had been on the verge of clapping for a while but was more interested in watching me do it, or hold on to my hands while I clapped. I was so excited he did it on his own!

Here are a few (terrible) pictures of our room for the night...

Brandan had requested a pack n play or crib and they didn't have any. Luckily we were just there for the night so we co-slept with Gavin. I thought we were only going to have 2 double beds but they were definitely queens. It even felt wider than our queen at home. We checked in with the parental units to let them know we made it safely. I decided to repack our suitcases because I had done such a rush job at home. I ended up being able to take out some clothes that I had over packed and eliminated an entire bag.

Brandan and I went to the front desk to ask for some pillows and to double check what time we should get a shuttle to the airport. I knew we were close to BWI just not sure how close with traffic and everything. We were all thinking we should leave the hotel at 6 or 630 for our 820 flight. The girl was really nice and told us we didn't need to take a shuttle until 7, we'd be there by 705 and security was "easy". We decided to take that bad advice. We got everything organized for the next morning and after 11 we all turned in for the night. It was about 1145 until I had baby asleep in my arms. The alarm was set for 5:45.

Up next: What was in store for us the next day? You have no idea!

    I know, right? Thanks!! :)

    Welcome!!
I can only imagine how busy you are with your two boys, thanks for finding the time to stop by!! And thank you.

You read my last TR so none of this should be a surprise really, LOL. I hate when DISNEY PLANS get messed up, argh! I wanted this trip to start off better than the last... I do remember that from your TR. At least you told him to call the nurse. I think I pretty much told my DH I didn't care and was going to sleep by my actions LOL. Oh well, I think I made up for it!

    Day 1 May 10, 2013

When I left off, we were tucked into bed at our hotel for the night in Baltimore. The alarms were set for 545am so we could catch the 7am shuttle to the airport for our 820 flight.

Let me again remind you what the plans were for day 1 from my PTR…

We had to co-sleep with Gavin and I don’t think I actually fell asleep. If I did it wasn’t for very long. I was out of bed before the alarm. I gave the baby to Daniel to snuggle and I got my shower. By the time I got out of the shower everyone else was up moving around. I nursed the baby and the others got showered and ready. Brandan and I headed out to the jeep to take some stuff out we did not need in Disney world. We were totally ready to go at 7:10 and the shuttle was nowhere to be found. They assured us that one was coming at 7:30. That is when I knew for sure that we were not going to be on our 8:20 flight to Orlando. I was hopeful, but I knew we were going to be late. I stayed calm. This was us waiting in the lobby of the Hilton for our shuttle to the airport.

With a baby and a dude in crutches it was not going to be easy getting all our stuff into the airport and through the southwest line until we got rid of our checked bags (the 3 large rolling suitcases) but I assured Brandan that after we got rid of those bags it was smooth sailing. Haha…

The 730 bus was at least 5 minutes late. We aren’t entirely sure what time it came but that is our best guess. There was only one other guy on the shuttle bus with us to the airport.

Baby, Brandan, and I on the bus to the airport.

It definitely was not a 5 minute drive to the airport. It was more like 10-15 minutes. Our driver was super helpful and helped us unload all our bags. But then there we all were on the side of the road with all those bags. We had another street type intersection to cross before we were into the airport. It might as well have been a million miles away because I was just not quite sure how we were going to do it! You know what I felt like…

I felt like the toys in toy story 2 trying to cross the street!

So it took us a few minutes but we got it… I had the baby in the ergo. We opened the stroller and bungee corded the car seat to the stroller. Our carry ons went into the car seat. Brandan rolled 2 of the rolling suitcases, and Daniel had no choice but to carry his crutches and roll the other. I was pushing the stroller with the baby strapped to me. I'm sure we were quite the scene. So we finally get into the airport and of course there is a very long line at southwest. I had our boarding passes printed, but we had to check our bags. I'm not sure how long the process took, but it felt like 2 years. Moving up inch by inch. Every time we moved, we had to move all the stuff. It was anything but fun. By the time we got to the front of the line and it was our turn at the kiosk, it was 805am. I was definitely for sure that we were not going to be on the 820 flight to Orlando! When we got to the kiosk, the southwest employee immediately tended to my husband and was so concerned and told him to lean on the counter if he had to and she called for a wheelchair. The lady (a customer) on the other side of the kiosk we were at ended up helping a ton with getting our bags up there. She told us she had plenty of time and wanted to try to help get us on our flight. She was amazing, and so was the southwest employee. I very calmly told her that we were no longer in a hurry, there was no chance we were going to make our flight. She told us she would never tell us not to try and she was going to help. I figured it was a long shot but what the heck, why not make a scene in the airport. So with less than 15 minutes to go, we were off…

An airport employee (I wish I had his name!) came out to push Daniel in the wheel chair. Luckily we no longer had to deal with the 3 large suitcases. We just had the stroller/car seat combo, a large carry on bag, and a backpack. Brandan had a small backsack. The guy that was pushing Daniel, okay he needs a name lets call him cooper. Cooper took us through some secret security line. It was like the fast pass line! We were the only ones in the line. It still somehow took a while to get through since we had to un-bungee the stroller/car seat and send them through. I have been wondering since we started planning this trip if I’d be able to wear the baby through security. Luckily I was able to. They just had to swab my hand and run a test (I’ve been meaning to look up what it is they are checking for, anyone know?) so I did not go through the body scanner. The TSA guy gave Daniel an option – either take his boot off and stand up, or get a pat down. I really thought at this point my dear husband was going to lose it. He has very strong opinions of the TSA and I thought he was going to tell the guy where to go. I honestly was expecting him to say he would take the boot off and stand on his broken foot but he took the pat down option and they took him somewhere to do that. So we all finally got through security and got our stuff together, seriously that was a fiasco! And then it was time to run through the airport to our gate, I think it was a4. It involved elevators and lots of quick maneuvering. Brandan and I took turns passing the pink bag back and forth but I think for the most part Brandan had it. At one point I think even cooper had carried it for us. That guy was awesome. Anyway, we finally get to gate a4 and the flight is taking off! In case you were wondering, we were not on the flight as it was taking off. Pants, now what?

I just realized an error after looking at that picture from the hotel. In addition to 3 rolling suitcases we had a GIANT duffel bag stuffed with clothes for 3 people. Daniel had put that on his back like a backpack and was rolling one of the large suitcases. Brandan was rolling 2 large suitcases. I had the baby strapped to me in the ergo and was pushing the stroller with the car seat bungee corded to it with the backpack and big Vera tote in it and Daniel's crutches. Oy! That was not fun. I'm sure I had it the easiest though. I forgot to mention that through this entire process of running through the airport like maniacs, Gavin did not make one peep! He was so content.

Up next: seriously, what else can go wrong?
