We are going for the first time with our 5 year old DD the third week of May...leaving the Sunday before Memorial Day? I'm starting to worry about the heat and crowds...how bad is it?

We were there in May 2011 and it was around 95 degrees every day. But for some reason the humidity was very low, so it wasn't as bad as an August or September trip.

Average highs are around 86 and average lows are around 66. But things can vary greatly.

I like to use easywdw.com for their park recommendations. That's where I got the daily weather info too.

It was pretty close to 90* every day that we went in May of 2011. We were there May 6th- May 15th. We usually took a break at the pool in the heat of the day. On our very last day it was the hottest of the whole time. We didn't have a pool break that day because all our stuff was packed, and we needed tons of water.

We were there the first week of May last year and left before the weather turned hot, so we missed the worst of it. Mid-May is pretty good crowd-wise.

We went in early May 2010. It averaged mid 90s every day except the last day. Miserable. We still had a good time, of course, but our main saving grace was that the crowds were really light.

Two years ago, I arrived on May 1st for 5 nights. Although I did have a good time, it was just too hot for me. One day I almost fainted in the park. It was between 90 - 93 degrees in the park every day. Most likely, I would never go again at that time.

I guess a lot of it depends on what you are used to. We usually go in June & have had times there are heat warnings because the heat index was well over 100! So we are really looking forward to a cooler mid-May trip : )

I go every May for my birthday and then again in the summer with my family. I find it harder to adjust to the heat in May then in the summer. It can be very hot in May.

I agree with this. We've gone in May a couple of times. Kids get out of school in May in Arkansas. My understanding is that most schools in the US get out in late June. The crowds are not bad at all mid-May to mid-June. SWW are a little busier, but we still don't think it is as bad as in July or August. We love SWW, so definitely do that if you can. We find the weather great in May. However, as I mentioned, we are from a part of Arkansas where the humidity is not that different. We don't think temps in the 90's are bad at all. On the other hand, when we had gloves on at night the week of Thanksgiving like the cast members did, there were some guests in long shorts. We just feel blessed to not have the mosquitos on top of the heat when we visit Florida :rotfl:

I have been the last 4 Mays. I come from Central CA and am used to high temps. Two of the 4 trips have had high temps and high humidity. I was there this year for the 4th of July week and it didn't feel any hotter than my last mid-May vacation.

One of the other May vacations had warm days but lower humidity.

I was also there for Monsoon May a few years ago where it rained so much that you were walking in inches of water everywhere and the rain was so hard and sideways. Every day.

You may have been there at the same time we were that year. It poured one day when we were at EPCOT and we were in Club Cool. Just to get to the restroom was out of the questions. People pretty much just stopped wherever they were for a little bit. When it stopped, it was flooded by CC. We saw reports later that EPCOT had a flash flood. Yep, we agreed.

It's already too hot by May; the Florida sun is SO intense. The temps were in the upper 90s when we went in early May a couple years ago. Good luck.

The weather in May gets hotter every day. We did several trips first week of May and we could feel weather change. It is not humid however, so it is much easier then July or August. Crowds were fine but it gets more crowded by the end of month. Overall, May is our favorite month out of May-September.

We've gone our last four trips in May and we love it. Crowds are pretty good, manageable. As for weather, it's hot, yes, but we've never found it unbearable or anything. Heat tolerance is subjective I guess....

We're from Canada, so when we make the two day drive down to FL, we like it sunny & hot. I think it helps that we hit the parks at rope drop, and are back at our hotel enjoying the cool pool by mid-afternoon when the heat is at it's peak :sunny:
