We'’re out of it! … A summer 14 “MAGICal” Med adventure Day 14/Aug 05 updated 05/05

Day 12, August 3

Picture Perfect Greek Island - Part 2

We knew the direction and off we went, but what we did not realize was that the streets were going up and down and they were so narrow and we quickly lost our sense of direction and after about 20 minutes of just “walking around” we found ourselves back at the waterfront again.
We had been going in circles and while we had really enjoyed all the lovely white houses and narrow paths we had been walking around on, we still needed to get to those windmills. So we tried again, lets walk along the water’s edge, then we must get up there somewhere.

IMG_3681_zpslsyjse2q.jpg

IMG_3683_zpsyqg7uiad.jpg

Whoops, the path takes another turn and we need to keep right, so we kept right and then another turn and another one.

DSC_0487%20-%20Kopie_zps9wdhptiz.jpg

There were fun little shops all along the way.

DSC_0489%20-%20Kopie_zpsrq4ljzyq.jpg

We stopped and looked at things

and at one point we tried to even connect to the internet to get directions, but it never worked. And within a few more minutes we found ourselves right where we had started from.
Now, this was getting ridiculous.
So, into a souvenir shop we went and bought a map! Map in hand we started out to find the windmills a third time.
Again, the paths twisted and turned and we found ourselves lost even with the map. But we must have taken a right turn, as this time we just turned a corner and were at the foot of the hill the windmills are on. We were happy to say the least.
So we slowly made our way up to the windmills,

We saw quite a lot of faces we knew from the Magic and we even knew some of these were from our group, but there were quite a few individuals in there that were pretty self centered and I had taken a back seat, keeping my head down.

You forgot to update your thread title!! :goodvibes

I came here and was not expecting an update! A long time ago we were on a family vacation in the Greek Isles and I still remember those white houses up the hill very vividly. It was so pretty!

The Tui ship (I guess it is a Thompson one?) looks very old compared to the shiny Magic! I think even though you had issues with her, you still were on the better cruise if you ask me!

I hope life will quiet down a bit for you soon! I guess there should be some school vacation coming up soon enough!

Those beautiful white streets look like some place out of a faery tale! They're just so pretty!!

Glad you finally found the windmills. That was an adventure to say the least!

Wow this place is like the perfect little Greek town. It's so charming and beautiful.

:scared1: Thank you for letting me know. I will correct it when I post my next update (hopefully right after I am finished here. ;))

A long time ago we were on a family vacation in the Greek Isles and I still remember those white houses up the hill very vividly. It was so pretty!

Tom and I had never been to Greece before and had only seen postcards. It was really awesome waking up and looking outside and seeing that picture perfect Greek island. It was so awesome.

The Tui ship (I guess it is a Thompson one?) looks very old compared to the shiny Magic! I think even though you had issues with her, you still were on the better cruise if you ask me!

I think it was a Thompson one, yes. It looked, well, ...... used. And as you said, even though having big issues it was nice to be able to say that we sailed on the beautiful "old fashioned" looking oceanliner. :goodvibes

I hope life will quiet down a bit for you soon! I guess there should be some school vacation coming up soon enough!

Thankfully I have a long weekend this weekend - with Dec 8th (which is an observed holiday here - and I guess Nuremberg too) being a Tuesday, we get Monday off as well. Makes for 4 days of sleeping in and trip planning. :thumbsup2

Those beautiful white streets look like some place out of a faery tale! They're just so pretty!!

It was just so beautiful and clean. We loved it there. Wherever you turned there, there was something beautiful to discover. Really well worth visiting.

Glad you finally found the windmills. That was an adventure to say the least!

We knew they had to be there somewhere and the village itself is not that large, but I have never had so much trouble keeping my sense of directions straight. :rotfl2:

Wow this place is like the perfect little Greek town. It's so charming and beautiful.

It was so beautiful, Jen. We really loved walking around, even though we went in circles.

Picture Perfect Greek Island - Part 3

We saw quite a lot of faces we knew from the Magic and we even knew some of these were from our group, but there were quite a few individuals in there that were pretty self centered and I had taken a back seat, keeping my head down.
But one of them came up to us to ask if this was indeed who they were looking for and we had quite a nice conversation.

Finally we decided to walk back to the harbour again

and our little walk took us past a liqueur store and we decided to walk through – and what would we find?

IMG_3697_zpslw9wnrff.jpg

Moet Ice!! Needless to say that we had to pick up a bottle to bring back to the ship as they were “out of it”.
By now we were ready to head for lunch again, as we wanted some authentic Greek cuisine and we were getting tired of the ship’s cuisine.
So we tried to stake out a nice restaurant, but the ones by the water were already full and when we finally found one, which even had a table right by the water we left again, after having a look at the menu. On our quest to find food we went past a Pandora store and picked up an island themed bead.
Well, all roads seem to lead to the harbour again here, so sooner or later we were bound to find ourselves at the harbour again and we did. In the end we decided to head to the same restaurant we had had breakfast at.
We asked for a table and were led to one towards the back of the restaurant and we ordered our drinks,

IMG_3698_zpsvs7cgyov.jpg

beer for Tom and a

IMG_3699_zpsm4lafmwo.jpg

Diet Coke for myself and a

IMG_3702_zpstnpgwnz6.jpg

bottle of water to share. And when the drinks were delivered they also brought out an

IMG_3700_zpspsujtfim.jpg

Amuse Bouche, a variation of an Bruschietta, toasted brown bread with a topping of tomatoes and Feta cheese and some black olives. We looked around and no one else had those, so we were wondering why we would receive it. But we did not think about it too long and ordered our main courses. The server brought us a

IMG_3701_zpsgduosjxl.jpg

basket of several different breads to share and within 10 minutes our lunch arrived. Tom had ordered the

IMG_3704_zpsgjjqibe2.jpg

Gyros, French Fries, Tzaziki, Pita bread and Tomatoes. I had opted for something that was the special of the day, the

IMG_3705_zpsjhtq8tae.jpg

Moussaka. Both looked amazing, smelled amazing and tasted even better. It was great sitting there, filling our bellies and looking out onto the harbour. Once we had finished our meal, we asked to pay the bill and once money had been handed over we were told to stay put.

DSC_0550%20-%20Kopie_zpse8ret7vr.jpg

We had no idea why, but we did and a minute later a server came back with two shot glasses of some really wonderful

IMG_3707_zpste1hm055.jpg

Greek liqueur. He explained that he remembered that we had had breakfast there too and he wanted to do something special for us, since we had come back, so we had received the Amuse Bouche and the little drink at the end.
So there we had it.
We thanked them very much and then headed towards the harbour promenade again. We checked out a few more of the shops,

DSC_0553%20-%20Kopie_zpsxpjjf7oh.jpg

DSC_0555%20-%20Kopie_zps8vyvjjan.jpg

and then slowly walked back to the bus to get back to the ship. One was filling up right as we got back, but we were lucky and found seats and within a few more minutes we were back at the ship.

DSC_0556%20-%20Kopie_zpsviyfft4p.jpg

Didn’t take long and we were past the scanners and in the elevator. On the way down to our room we were joking if it would be done and we slowly opened the door and today we had been in luck. It was done.

Tom takes so much pride in making them and I nearly forgot to post the link - and please check out the other days as well (and try to cheat - at least for once. ;)

Thanks to Tom for the calendars and yes I tried to cheat and I laughed out loud at the princesses, too funny.

He explained that he remembered that we had had breakfast there too and he wanted to something special for us, since we had come back so we had received the Amuse Bouche and the little drink at the end.
So there we had it.

Well isn't that special? I guess they all know the cruise ships feed you so they show their appreciation even more? Either way, that was darned nice of them. Little bit of magic right there.

On the way down to our room we were joking if it would be done and we slowly opened the door and today we had been in luck. It was done.

Well that rounds out a perfectly lovely day. :cool1:

Oh wow that lunch looks fantastic! Soo tasty! I can't remember now- are you guys doing Panama next year? Your ticker is cut off on my iPad

Thanks for playing along. And a :thumbsup2 for trying to cheat - that is a cute one, isn't it?

We were blown away by their kindness. They made us feel so special, just because we had enjoyed their hospitality so much that we wanted to repeat it. :goodvibes Magic all around!

It was soooooo good and finally something else than cruise food. ;)

Yes, we are doing the eastbound PC cruise next summer. I still cannot believe this is going to happen. So lucky with the early date.

before retreating to the balcony for a while. We could see some ships and ferries from there and it was super interesting to see a ferry coming in and people streaming off it in just a few minutes

At around 4pm we decided to head up to the top deck to walk around a bit.

DSC_0590%20-%20Kopie_zpstxe8tezr.jpg

The pool area was buzzing and it was loud and hot. Since we had last eaten about 4 hours ago, we decided to try some of the counter service grub. We first got a plate of cold stuff,

IMG_3717_zpslnpzoevr.jpg

wraps, a filled bagel and we topped it all up with some coleslaw. Tom also got two

IMG_3716_zpsupddj3cd.jpg

ot dogs as he loves those on the other ships and he topped them well. Food in hand we headed down to our room and got the table ready with drinks

IMG_3718_zpsjtes9emv.jpg

and after taking photos we dug in. Now this is where the next disappointment set in. As much as we love the Counter Service stuff at the other ships, the wraps tasted off. Not bad off, but old. The tuna ones were so dry on the outside and the chicken ones really had a funny taste. So we just put those aside. Tom tried the bagel and it was stale. So stale that it could have been in a shopwindow for a week. Yuck.

IMG_3720_zpsps3bovcl.jpg

We ended up sharing the

IMG_3719_zpsrsq2zoln.jpg

Hot Dogs, which did not live up to the ones we had had on the Dream and Fantasy, but the coleslaw was pretty yummy. And after our kind of disaster with the food we sat out on the veranda enjoying the lovely

Moet Ice while watching ships coming and going in the harbour.

Day 12, August 3

Picture Perfect Greek Island - Part 5

Around 6.30 we strolled through the ship again and stopped in Keys for a beverage.
The server, who we already knew suggested his “substitute Ice”, so I showed him the photo of the one we had up in our room. Tom had decided to try a glass of a

IMG_3727_zpsrusnlfxv.jpg

IMG_3729_zpsbp9g0yvz.jpg

Silverado Red Wine, while I thought I could do with a

IMG_3728_zpshhx0h0td.jpg

Strawberry Daiquiri. They made a big fuss about the wine until it was finally in a glass, and finally my drink arrived. Well, Tom loved his wine, my drink was way too sweet. But since I had already somewhat upset the server with my message that I had my favourite drink up in my room, I did not want to complain and had a few sips, but most of it was left in the glass.
We strolled around for a bit and ran into our friends Bobbie and Conny and we agreed on meeting up at O’Gill’s later that night after dinner.
And after some time it was about time to head back to our room to get ready for dinner. Tonight was Master Chef dinner and we made it to the dining room right on time. We quickly found our table and drinks were put on our table and menus handed out.
Being prepared we had looked at the menu online before and about knew what we wanted. So when the Jason came to greet us and take our order we knew exactly what to order. Jay brought us the

IMG_3737_zpsg0ui8w46.jpg

bread basket, which had pieces of the Freshly Baked Whole Olive Loaf and some dinner rolls, together with an

IMG_3738_zpsdwmtwm8v.jpg

Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Herbs Dip. Soon the starters were served, Tom had ordered

IMG_3741_zpsqpu1uvg0.jpg

IMG_3742_zps6fttqfvh.jpg

Citrico’s Shrimp, marinated shrimp with Feta cheese, cilantro and tomato in a light Chardonnay butter sauce. I had found one of my all time favourites on the menu and ordered that, the

IMG_3739_zps3mjuoipj.jpg

Double Baked Gruyere Cheese Souffle, with Maytang Blue Cheese, Spinach and Mascarpone Cheese. Yum, yum is all I need to say about that. And as soon as we had finished our starters, main courses were served. We both had ordered the same main dish, the

IMG_3743_zpswwvfiiro.jpg

IMG_3746_zps7dxvvjxl.jpg

Centre Cut Beef Tenderloin and Lobster Medallion, USDA Choice Cut of Beef with caramelized carrots and snow peas on a Potato Cake with Sauce Bearnaise. It was really delicious and the meat was cooked right as ordered. Once we had finished our main course our plates were whisked away and while Jay went to get some dessert menus, Jason had some time to chat with us for a bit. But then it was time to order dessert. Tom decided on the

IMG_3754_zpskibjqzdb.jpg

Chef’s Favourite Sundae, Rocky Road Icecream, topped with Roasted Marshmallow, Chocolate Wafer and Fudge Sauce. I chose the

IMG_3751_zpszqwr6zi8.jpg

Raspberry Tartlet, fresh Raspberries and light Raspberry Cream on an Orange Biscuit served with Mango Coulis. Both were nice and I was happy to find my dessert to be small as that was all I had room for. Once we had finished our dinner we said our goodbyes and then we went to O’Gill’s, found a nice table at the side and ordered a

IMG_3757_zpso9oi6kta.jpg

IMG_3759_zpsus1wilnr.jpg

Corona for Tom and a glass of

IMG_3762_zpso2mr9tbt.jpg

Pinot Grigio for me and we sat there and waited for Bobbie. Well, we really just sat and waited as the music was so loud, we could not even have a conversation without shouting at each other. We sat and waited for more than half an hour and Tom was tired and had a bit of a headache, so he went back to the room while I waited for Bobbie.
She arrived soon after Tom had left and when the music stopped we were finally able to have a conversation. We sat for quite some time and they had already cleaned up the bar when we finally left. I went back to our stateroom and found Tom still watching TV, but we did call it a night soon after.

Okay now it is playing nice. The Food porn was awesome , my favs are Tom's napoleon and his Surf and Turf. I give you KUDOS for keeping trying to see those windmills !!!

The Magic looks so far away from the windmills, was it a very long walk?

That was so nice of the restaurant to give you treats for coming back. And the food looks fantastic.

Hooray for finding some Moet Ice! boo on the CM for giving you a hard time about not wanting his 'substitute ice'.

And double boo for how bad the wraps and bagel were, that's terrible.

Dinner looked mighty delicious though.

Okay now it is playing nice. The Food porn was awesome , my favs are Tom's napoleon and his Surf and Turf. I give you KUDOS for keeping trying to see those windmills !!!

Food in the main dining room was quite nice throughout the cruise, even though it did not get close to what we were used to, cruising in the US.

I really wanted to get up to those windmills, you could see them from afar and they are kind of a landmark for Mykonos.

The Magic looks so far away from the windmills, was it a very long walk?

The ship was far away. But they ran a bus service from the ship to very close to the center of Mykonos. From the bus stop it was about a very leisurely 15 minute stroll to the windmills - once you found the way that is. :rotfl2:

That was so nice of the restaurant to give you treats for coming back. And the food looks fantastic.

It was a beautiful restaurant, the view was awesome and the servers were super nice. So we never thought about it twice when we returned for lunch. And to be treated like we were was just the icing on the cake - it was such a treat.

Hooray for finding some Moet Ice! boo on the CM for giving you a hard time about not wanting his 'substitute ice'.

It really saved my cruise! ;) No, just joking. But it was awesome to find the bottle, as for us, cruising includes some nice beverages and once I discovered the Moet Ice, that has become my cruise staple. So, when I discovered they had run out of it, it really put a damper on my mood. And even though the first substitute drink was not bad, the second one I got was no good at all. And I really had a hard time picking something else. I usually only have a drink on vacation and there are only a few things I really like. The thing was, that they had run out of most of the "crisp" white wines as well, so whenever we went to a bar I was hoping I would find something that tickled my fancy.

And double boo for how bad the wraps and bagel were, that's terrible.

I don't know if we always picked the wrong time to order something, but quick service and room service did just not compare to what we had had on our Bahamian and Caribbean cruises. We blamed it on having to cater in Europe, but that does not make a dry bagel of an off wrap any better.

Dinner looked mighty delicious though.

Main Dining room food was always better than anything else, but we were actually looking forward to some non cruise food. Never thought that I could have too much fancy food. :rotfl:

Day 13, August 4

Another day at sea - Part 1

We slept in a bit, especially since it had been a long evening the day before and so we only got up at around 8am.
And after taking showers we got ready to head down for breakfast. We went to Lumiere’s, again. I was in dire need of some tea, so I brought my mug and tea

IMG_3764_zpsqtam4hes.jpg

and once we were seated I just asked for really really hot water. Tom got his coffee

IMG_3765_zpsbwazhbch.jpg

and we were ready to start. There were not many opportunities left, where we could have our favourite breakfasts, so we just ordered that. Tom ordered the

IMG_3770_zpsbuvdtkeu.jpg

Bircher Muesli and I had the

IMG_3772_zpscuyjw2lo.jpg

Mornin’ Tug Boat again for starters and really enjoyed them. Once the plates had been cleaned away we were served our main breakfast course. Now, what would that be you ask? Well, the infamous

IMG_3775_zpscnmxle7f.jpg

Eggs Benedict of course. We both had opted for the same thing and while Tom’s were cooked pretty much equally one of my poached eggs was nearly hard boiled, while the other one was nearly set. Well done on inconsistency Disney Cruise Line. Tom offered to swap plates with me, but I was not all that hungry, so I just ate around the uncooked part.
Once we had finished our meal we headed back to our room, picked up the last Fish Extender gifts to hand out and made our round. It took us about an hour to finish and once we were done we returned to our stateroom where we burst into laugh, as it had not been done yet. And yes, our stateroom host had seen us head out and greeted us and asked if we would be back soon. So we made ourselves comfortable in the mess, then poured ourselves a drink

IMG_3779_zpsybrjvqyg.jpg

IMG_3781_zps9cada73p.jpg

and sat out on the veranda to enjoy the waves rolling by. Around noon we got ready to pass a little time and have some more to eat.
We headed down to Lumiere’s and were quickly led to a table. Drinks were ordered quickly and a

IMG_3782_zpsin2d5l05.jpg

breadbasket was placed on the table. Didn’t take long to order our food and soon we found ourselves stuffing ourselves with fresh bread and

IMG_3783_zpsphs2dqjr.jpg

butter. We both had opted for the same starter, the

IMG_3785_zpsapeoz57r.jpg

Vegetable Quesadillas, served with Guacamole, Sour Cream and Pico de Gallo. These are always a favourite of ours and they did not disappoint. We had asked the server to pace our meal a bit and so we had some time to chat with him while waiting for our main course, which was the

IMG_3794_zps5s590o4n.jpg

Glazed Meatloaf with Smashed Yukon Potatoes, Buttered Carrots, Long Beans and Gravy for Tom and the

IMG_3790_zpsqg0v2obn.jpg

Grilled Halibut with a Tomato, Olive and Garlic Sauce served with Herbed Saffron Rice which I had subbed for Smashed Potoatoes. Again, these were old favourites and we really enjoyed them again. And there was still dessert. Tom ordered the

IMG_3798_zpsqvqd31by.jpg

Hot Chocolate Fudge Pudding with Vanilla Sauce while my heart was on another favourite, the

IMG_3796_zpsaweizewb.jpg

Key Lime Pie, Lime Custard on Graham Cracker and a Meringue Topping. Soon they were brought out and we were to indulge. And then it was time to leave again. We said our goodbyes to the server, tipped him and handed him some candy before heading out to the Atrium. Characters were out and people were lining up and we walked around a bit and people watched before returning to the stateroom and guess what, no stateroom host in sight and the room still not done.

To be continued ..........

You're showing me food I've never seen before popcorn:: I need to try that chocolate cake! I'll have to try the key lime pie again, I didn't think it had much taste and I love key lime pie!

Mom really enjoys the morning tug boat.

Please tell Tom I'm thoroughly enjoying the calendars :)

Just got back.from the Dream and finally tried the Moet Ice at Remy yesterday. We have a bottle with us to enjoy for the next part of our vacation.

Your stateroom host sounds like a real pain. The food in Greece looked so good! I would really enjoy some Gyros right now!

That's too bad the consistency was so bad at the QS. Normally it's great when departing from US ports. And that's too bad on the Eggs Benedict that the yolks were so cooked.

You lunch looked good. I like that meatloaf.

Hi Karin! Yo,ur Mykonos pics look like a dream! Such a beautiful village, and you got to see it more than once :rotfl2: Very nice of the restaurant to give you extra treats!

I'm really surprised at the lack of service and poor food quality on this cruise.
