I'm so sorry for the way OT thread, but I need some advice, and I know you guys know everything ;)

We'll be headed to Canada this summer to camp on Prince Edward Island ........ is there a website that lists info on crossing the border, or other helpful tips for vacationing there?

We all have passports, and I will take vet records for the dog .... but other than that, anything obvious or not-so-obvious that we'll need to bring or be aware of?

    Thanks so much!!!

The only thing I can think of off hand is if you have any personal weapons, you can't take them across the border easily. Other than that, it's not a problem getting across the border. The biggest problem in Buffalo is the wait at the bridge -- can be a couple of hours at times. Good luck.

    Thank you so much!!!

I see the same question was recently asked - so sorry for the duplicate! I recently had some semi-extensive surgery and haven't been online ... and am now unable to sit at the computer for long enough to do a search. Usually the search button is my friend. :thumbsup2

Looks like a few of us are headed north. Thanks again for all the info!!!

Be aware that there are also many restrictions on moving items from Canada to the US. These restrictions apply to both US and Cnd citizens. It doesn't matter which passport you carry. I don't believe you can bring meat of any kind across the border. Fresh fruits, vegetables, plants and flowers are also prohibited. Interestingly though, you can bring cut flowers. This may have some implications for you if you have left over grocery items that you want to transport back home to the US, especially produce. The border patrols will probably confiscate them. I live in a border city and have numerous friends that live in Canada and work in the US. Most don't bother even trying to take a sack lunch with them anymore as it is usually confiscated at the border. Concerns about spreading plant diseases, pests & insects, mad cow, etc. have lead to recent crack-downs. Transporting firewood may or may not be problem, depending on where you are crossing. This is because of the emerald ash beetle which is destroying all the ash trees. There are probably other restrictions as well. Make sure you do all of your homework and research both Cnd and American rules & regulations and what ever you do, under no circumstances argue with the border patrol folks. They can and will pull you over for secondary inspection which could take hours.

Thanks for the info!! I asked my dad (who lives in Maine and will be traveling with us) if we could bring firewood from US to Canada and if we could bring some of those infamous PEI potatoes back home. He said yes ....... but I'm sure he's operating under the rules of good ole yester-year!!!! So, I guess we won't bother with either, now. Thanks again for the info!
