Hi! I'm hoping for some help. We have never done V & A and have a reservation for November for the main dining room. We are both semi-picky eaters (he doesn't eat much seafood of any sort, and I don't eat lamb, veal or some fish). Will we have a problem with the menu? Is there a beef/steak course that is always served in the main dining room? We are just trying to decide if its worth it for us to keep the reservation. Is there choices given on the menu or is everything just brought out and served to you without any choice? Thanks very much for any info you all can provide! :coffee:

Depends on how "picky" . Yes they will probably have a beef option, but it's unlikely to be just a plain steak. It's generally fancy food and while there are choices for each course I am not sure picky people will ike them.

Here are some examples (Note The menu changes quite often so... It used to be daily, I am not sure what the plan is now) Looking at some of the menus on some days it appears one course is only seafood for example)

I think a restaurant like V&A works really well for the adventurous, but can be a minefield for people who like what they like and may look askance at some of the dishes. You can call V&A in advance to discuss food preferences and they can discuss if they can accommodate. I'd recommend doing this. It's not a place where they can heavily improvise when you arrive based on how they source ingredients.

We don't do V&A for this reason. We like a wide range of foods but mostly they are simpler dishes so I'm afraid they wouldn't suit us. Not worth the effort just to say we ate there. I'd have to know we'd like everything/anything they'd bring us. And I just don't think that is the case.

The other thing I noted was that some of the "beef" options were add-ons, meaning it's not included in your $185 dinner and will require an additional payment!

I think you have to like a decent variety of foods at V & A. I'm not picky, but I'm not foodie status either. My DH is really picky, so unfortunately, I just can't imagine spending the money to eat here.

I would say, if you aren't very adventurous, skip V&A. DH used to be picky, but not long after we were married, he tries everything! We did V&A about 7 or 8 times over the years, and are returning next month, but we'll try (and enjoy) just about everything. I do stop short of oysters (although we did have an oyster amuse bouche at V&A, and I loved it) and foie gras (or any liver), but I'm game for just about anything else!

I'd love to take DW to V&A's but she's a "meat & potatoes" person, she doesn't even care for sauces on her beef dishes. My DD is a foodie, and is a major wine lover. Maybe the two of us will try it some time. If you're looking for some nice red meat, Shula's is good, and Yachtsman isn't bad. I've read that the steak at Flying Fish is excellent and is a contender for best steak on property.

Jealous you got a reservarion. We've been trying for several trips and haven't been able to get a reservarion yet.

By all means, yes!!!! I absolutely hated cooked salmon until I had it at V&A's. Tell them your dislikes, they'll work with you. It's an experience that everyone should try at least once, imho.

Has anyone here dined at both V & A and Remy on DCL? I'm curious about how the experience compares against one another.

I dined at V&A this spring to try it once. In advance, I called to discuss food preferences with them. They created a special menu around these preferences, and my friend received the regular menu. Generally for each course of the meal there is a choice between only two options. I was pleased with two of the special items I got, but overall, I have more fun at Tusker House, because I can wear comfortable clothes and comfortable shoes, and I can just show up and find an abundance of food items that I like, without having to discuss the menu in advance.

No, you get steak included with the regular price of the meal. But you can upgrade to Wagu or Kobe beef for an additional charge.

We have eaten at V&A several times, most recently in 2013; we ate at Remy's on the Dream in 2014. In V&A we have eaten in the main dining room and in the individual dining rooms with Victoria and Albert as our personal staff; at Remy's we ate in one of the smaller dining rooms with a dedicated team as well.
We are both wine drinkers so we typically do the wine pairings, and being cheese lovers, we had the cheese course at each as well. Both dinners were very good, service was top notch at both as well; however, we preferred V&A. It is hard to put a finger on why - our food preferences were accommodated at both (no offal/organ meat being our one no-go) and the presentations were lovely but if I were to spend another $500-600 on a meal, I would rather it be V&A. The only thing I can sort of put my finger on is V&A seemed to have broader choices and more varied flavors - and that might be the difference between a ship and a hotel. Bottom line - if you enjoy one, there is a high probability that you will enjoy the other. Which one you prefer, that you'll have to decide after experience.

(1) Yes (2) No

Yes. It's hard to rank one above the other, though I would see someone preferring V & A to Remy as the menu selections appear more orchestrated and composed top to bottom at V & A than at Remy. That being said, we feel the true variety at Remy overall is superior since you literally can sample one of everything on their menu. Further, though I realize that part of the expense of a cruise is the cost of your dining, Remy still represents a great value compared to V & A since the up charge is only $80 per person for an extremely similar experience, and the view from just about anywhere in Remy is lovely and romantic. You can't go wrong with either experience.
