I will be checking in tomorrow for the 4nt dream. I booked VGT. Was assigned 5B. I will ask about upgrading to V and T and post exact quotes here before the SHIP sails. And if I take the upgrade, I'll also tell you exactly how long it took 911 to respond to my husband's subsequent stroke. :faint:

I don't think they even look at what you paid when you booked. They have a spreadsheet that shows the price to go to each category from the category you originally booked.

We were able to upgrade at the port for the 8/19 cruise and since I knew the category we were in, the supervisor just looked at the sheet and gave me the price. The only time she used the system was when she changed us to our new cabin.

Just fyi..... the cost to go from a 6A to a T was $1325. This was on a 5 night cruise, so the price on a 3 or 4 night would probably be less. It doesn't matter how many people are upgrading, it is all based on cabin category.

Ok. Booked VGT. Assigned 5B. First one to supervisor desk. The list showed a bunch of open rooms. She quoted me $560 to upgrade to concierge family stateroom. $960 to a 1 bedroom. I took the 1 bedroom. Asked for 12000. The front one. :)

Between the VGT and the port upgrade, saved over 50% vs booking this room outright.

Good luck to other upgraders. :)

We just booked VGT on the Dream for a 4 night in late October. Since I see many open 1 bedroom cabins left, we're debating trying for an upgrade. Your data is most helpful to us, as we try to do a (general) ballpark of how many piggy banks we'll need to break open.

How do you check to see if there are available rooms on your cruise?

I've been around the boards for awhile but don't know that acronymn. Also a question: if you are booked via points are there still upgrades available?

How do you find out what rooms are available online? Or am I misunderstanding and you can only find out at the port?

VGT stands for Verandah Guarantee. There is also OGT (Oceanview) and IGT (Inside). They are less expensive rates, but are very restricted - pay in full when booking, no refunds, no name changes and no changing sail dates.
Not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure I've read that you can do a cash upgrade if you booked on points.

The only way to tell online would be to start a "dummy" booking on the DCL web site and look at what categories are available. You don't need to wait until you get to the port. When we went on the 8/19 cruise I checked every few days and saw that many categories were still open, right up until 3 days prior to sailing. That's why we went to the port early and were able to upgrade to a cat T.

Wow, it appears lots of upgrades at port are available to concierge lately.
Especially on these short Dream sailings.

I wonder how the folks who actually book these cabins in advance feel about all these port upgrades. DCL should be careful here. NCL learned, and adjusted their policy. I see it coming to DCL. These cabins IMHO should be offered to the most platinum members as up-sales over the phone 3 - 15 days out from sail date. If they don't bite work your way down the loyalty ladder. The port at 10:30 is getting crowded again with "upgraders". JMHO

Good point. I looked at our cruise (9/30 Dream) today, and there is still a healthy supply of Concierge rooms available. I booked ours over a year ago, and I'm ok with the price, but I can see others being upset.
