Two Geeks and A 9/16 At-Home Disney-ish Wedding - We're married!

Sounds like great plans. I hope that the bridal party and your family takes over a lot of the "heavy lifting" so that you can mostly enjoy the day instead of having to do too much of the centerpiece placing and set up. It sounds like you have everything under control and it will be a magical day.

I'm going to try to. My dad already knows that he's going to be the one setting up the backdrop, so it's really just a few other little things that we'll have to take care of. I don't think we're doing traditional escort cards (probably just a sign with "This is your table, you pick the seat" kind of thing). I really hope everything works out the way we want it to.

I second Alison ' s advice, delegate as much of the set up as you can.

We're definitely going to try!

AWWWWW YAY!!!!!!!

So happy to hear you are finally going to have your wedding!

Everyone is right when they say it's about marrying your best friend. Courthouse, Disney Wedding or Non Disney wedding. It's you two committing yourselves to each other.

I think this venue is going to be perfect. Agreed, delegate as much as you can. Is it possible you can go in the night before & decorate?

Of course I'm still subscribed! I knew there was going to be a wedding at somepoint! Can't wait to see everything!

Just read through all 20 pages. So happy you have a date and a new plan.

Thank you! :yay: So are we!

I know, right? I'm so excited! But yes, I agree with that. We're getting married, and that's what matters.

Unfortunately, we can't unless we pay for the time (which would be a minimum of six hours, since that's how they book it). So we're just going to do it that morning :)

Decorations, Caterer, and Other Stuff

So, our plans for decoration are pretty simple. Because we're utilizing the venue's stage for the ceremony, we're going to build that lit backdrop with PVC, sheers, and white lights. It should look something like this once it's done.

backdrop.jpg
It'll be 10' wide and roughly 7' tall. My dad already has the piping, he just needs to get the joints.

We're also thinking about doing this to the cake table:
cake table.jpg
Haven't decided yet.

Our centerpieces will be something like this:

But with a pumpkin like this in the middle, not that glass bowl:
centerpieces 3.jpg

We also can't burn candles, so I'm going to order a few dozen flameless votive candles to place around the pumpkins. We're planning to just give the pumpkins away at the end of the reception, so that we don't have 15-20 pumpkins sitting around our apartment.

I also want to try and do something like this for the head table (or sweetheart table, if that's what we end up doing, since we haven't decided yet).
head table piece.jpg

Unless we change our minds, these are the invitations we're going to go with:
invitation.jpg
We don't really feel like traditional wording is really us. But given the givens (both sets of parents are helping to pay for this whole thing), we might choose something else.

I also ordered my veil! I found one on Tradesy that I liked, and it was only $25, so I ordered it. It should be arriving tomorrow. I've got a lot of stuff bookmarked that I'm planning to buy, just the little things. We're probably going to make a card box instead of buying one, since that shouldn't be too difficult.

My mother has also decided that paying for a florist is "stupid", so we're just going to order flowers from BJ's (similar to Costco or Sam's Club) and build them ourselves. So... Yeah. That'll be fun. I'm not going to have time to make truffles for the favors if we're doing flowers instead, especially given that I have no idea how much time I'll be able to get off of work for the wedding.

We're also trying to decide if we want to get rental chairs from our caterer or not. Neither DF nor I are fond of the chairs our venue has, since they're just grey metal folding chairs, the uncomfortable kind. They have a package that we're considering that includes chair covers and sashes, but we could just swap that for the rental chairs (which are chiavari) for an additional $2.50 a person. We both think it's worth it, and would cover the extra charges, but I just know that my mom would have a fit about it. I mentioned it to her last night and she specifically said "No, absolutely not". So... We'll figure it out later.

DF and I are trying to decide between two packages that the caterer offers. The first one is very basic, which is the following:

› White Linen Tablecloths & Choice of Available Napkin Colors
› Skirting for Main Table Sign-in, Gift and Cake Tables
› 1 waiter per every 30 guests
› Crystal, Silver & China Service
› Catering Equipment
› Cake Cutting Service

› Two (2) Butler Pass Appetizers

› Choice of One (1) Regular Salad
› Choice of Two (2) Regular Entrées
› Choice of One (1) Side Selections
› Choice of One (1) Vegetable
› Fresh Baked Rolls & Butter
› Coffee and Sweet Tea Station
We confirmed that there's no fee for cake cutting with an outside cake, which is good, since my friend is making ours. The difference between that package and the one that we're considering is this:

› White Chair Covers (chair model permitting)
› House Champagne or Asti Spumante Toast
It also comes with three appetizers (and they gave us a voucher to add a fourth one, since I saw them at a bridal show), two salads, sides, and veg. We can swap out the champagne for sparkling grape juice, since we're having a dry wedding. As I mentioned above, they said that if we go with that package, we can exchange the chair covers and sashes for chiavari chairs for an extra $2.50 a person. They also said that their linen person might throw in some extra stuff for us, but we're not banking on that. We're likely going to go with the second one, since it has more of what we want. We talked about it last night and agreed that if we do, we'll pay the extra and just surprise the parents with it.

We did decide on a photographer, though, so we just have to put down the deposit. It's someone @elphie101 had recommended to us previously. So that's in the works :)

That cake table lighting is swoonworthy! My good friend ordered bulk flowers for her own wedding because it was the only way she could get the burgundy calla lilies she wanted without breaking the bank. She just did her own bouquet, boutonnières for the boys and small nose gays for the girls. She saved a ton of money, but it was a lot of work.

I did all the flowers and tablescapes with my mom before the wedding. Boocoos of time I didn't expect, so be sure to have more help than you think you'll need. Less headache on your special day. Gorgeous lighting drape! That will be beautiful.

Sounds like it's coming together! I like the cake table decoration idea.

Ooooo, a suggestion from me? How exciting!! I can't wait to see!

I love your decor ideas, so simple but so perfect, especially for fall! It's going to be wonderful :) I wish we lived closer, I have two card boxes in my basement I would be happy to give away!

Love the cake table! That is going to be so pretty!
Fall! Love love love! I really wished we had gotten married in the fall. It's my favorite time of year.

With the pumpkins, if you decide not to give them out as gifts, you may want to find out if there is another wedding around the same time as yours, maybe for a price another bride or another event that the hall is having may want to buy them off of you? Or see if a local elementary school or even a high school may want some decorations for any fall events they are having. I'd do it as a donation to the schools. Wouldn't hurt to ask around closer to the time. Just an idea....

Ew ugly metal gray folding chairs. yea I'd cover them at least.

Agree with doing your own flowers. You will save a good amount cost wise, but yea, definitely recruit people to help you. It is time consuming. Don't overdo it to where you're going to stress yourself out to the point of being miserable for your own wedding. if we were closer, I'd help!

I know, I love it! My mom insists that she can do the flowers, so if that's how she wants to spend the couple days before the wedding, that's up to her. We're only doing my bouquet, four bridesmaid bouquets, one mini bridesmaid bouquet, two corsages, and something like nine boutonnieres. Hopefully it won't be too much. The only other floral is basically going to be taking leftover flowers and sticking them in vases to go on the cake table and sign-in table and all that.

My mom said she'll do it, so I'm leaving it up to her, lol. Especially since she's the one insisting that we don't need to hire a florist.

Me too! :lovestruc We're probably going to do purple lights with it :teeth:

Your decorations look beautiful! Here's to everything coming together!

Thank you!

We haven't booked yet (hopefully soon!), so I don't want to say for sure :lmao:

Thanks! We're trying to keep it as simple as possible just for the ease of setup. And I wish we lived closer just so we could hang out! :lmao:

If no one at the wedding wants them, I honestly might just see if the venue wants the pumpkins, since they turn it into a haunted house about a week later.

I haven't mentioned the chairs to my mom again, so hopefully she'll have forgotten about them by the time the wedding comes around :scratchin

That was my point to my mom. Yes, it's cheaper, but when it comes to the amount of time it would take to do everything, I don't know if it's such a good idea.

Plans are looking great.

Thanks! :)

I love how string lights can add so much romance behind a simple curtain, some of my favorite decorations (very Tangled Now I See the Light).

Me too! I love string lights in general. My matron of honor and I did up our dorm room with lights our freshman year of college. We had this flashing rope light that we framed the inside of the door with and we'd always have the door propped open with my dragon gargoyle and people would walk by like ":tilt::tilt::tilt::tilt:".

Honeymoon and Vendors!

We booked our honeymoon! We might change it, depending on what the cost of a cruise would eventually be (I can't get discounted pricing until I've been "with the company for three months", since I was re-hired after my program ended). Right now, it's the best value. We don't have to pay for airfare to go anywhere, or to store the car for a week, or for park tickets.

At any rate, right now, we're just going to be staying on property for a week. We have a reservation for Port Orleans Riverside from 9/17 to 9/23, and we'll be on the dining plan (1 QS/1 TS). The basic plan right now is below, but it'll likely change once park hours for September have been released.

Saturday, 9/17: No parks or ADRs because we'll be at the reception until about 8:30pm!
Sunday, 9/18: Sleep the heck in. Spend some time at the pool and hot tub, then go get lunch at Disney Springs. We're thinking Cooke's of Dublin, but we might change it to Blaze and pay out of pocket (it won't be worth using the dining plan, I don't think). Blaze isn't open yet, I think it opens in May, but it's basically a Subway for pizza. You pay one price and can get everything you want on it and it's baked in three minutes. We went to Blaze back home all the time and were talking about how much we missed it (Matt gets like six toppings on his pizza, which works out expensive everywhere else) and then we found out that they're opening one at Disney Springs!
Monday, 9/19: Most likely an MK day. We want to go to Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch and will probably hit Cosmic for dinner.
Tuesday, 9/20: Probably Epcot. We'd like to hit F&W, since they announced that it'll be going on by then, so we'd get breakfast at the resort and then have dinner at Cape May at the Beach Club that night.
Wednesday, 9/21: Another MK day, probably. We both like Harbour House, so that would most likely be lunch, and Matt wants to try Tony's for dinner.
Thursday, 9/22: A dual park day, with DAK and MK. Matt is hoping to try Flame Tree BBQ, and we want to get BOG for dinner.
Friday, 9/23: Check out, use any remaining credits.

A lot of the plans are really up in the air, but we're okay with that. We're very much spoiled by my main gate, but we also can't make ADRs or FP+ until next month.

We're also in the process of booking our photographer! I'm waiting for her to get back to me with the contract and deposit info, but we're all set to book her and she is available. She's someone @elphie101 had suggested to us before, and we really love her work and she seems like she's someone we'd get along with. So our photographer will be Emily Gilbert! She includes an engagement shoot with wedding bookings, so we'll be doing that at some point. I kind of want to see if we're able to do it at one of the parks, but we'll see. I think a resort would be easiest, logistically.

This morning, I emailed the caterer we want to ask to begin the booking process as well, so we're waiting to hear back from them. We chose Renaissance Catering, and, as long as they're still available, we'll be booking them by the end of next week. We ALSO booked our rehearsal dinner venue! We had wanted to do Trail's End so that we could have everyone go watch Wishes on the dock afterward, but it's out of the budget, so we're just doing Golden Corral. It's $15 a person and has a pretty varied selection.

My veil arrived and is in a bag with other wedding stuff in our closet. It's very simple, but I love it. We ordered our save the dates last week and they arrived on Thursday! I'm slowly addressing them and they should be going out in the mail on Monday or Tuesday, since we still have to get the stamps for them.

Yesterday, before DF had to go to work, we went to Men's Wearhouse and booked the tuxes, putting the deposit down for his tux. The other guys will take care of theirs before the end of next month. We're going to order the invitations at some point this coming week, since my dad is going to address them (he does calligraphy as a hobby) and we have to ship them to him, give him time to do them, and then ship them back to us. I found a bunch of things on Etsy and the like that we're going to order (salt ceremony, the garter, all that sort of stuff). I also have an idea for a groom's cake for him. Since I know how to make this one specific recipe that I know he loves from Disney, I'm tempted to use that for a filling for the cake.

So... That's what's going on!

YAY! That sounds like an amazing honeymoon. I love it all.

Plans are definitely getting very real, aren't they? Well done!!

I'm really excited about it :teeth:

And yes, the plans are definitely getting real! I think we're going to the post office tomorrow to get stamps. I'm hoping he'll address some more of the save the dates while I'm at work.
