Tropical Dreams, Mermaid Food, and Wishes on Wheels Oh My! 1st PTR

It was a really mellow day and quite lovely! How was you Mother's Day lady? :D

It was great. We went to lunch with my mom and my in-laws. It was a family style restaurant that has pretty good food. They had a special menu for mothers day. If I can remember we had calamari and Oysters Rockefeller which my MIL loves and I'd never had before. Then we had salads. I had a veggie pasta with a cheesy tomato sauce. We sat on the patio and the food took forever. I enjoyed it but the boys were getting antsy and my mom wasn't that happy. The best part of the day was assembling my new patio furniture and working on the yard.

Mmmm good Italian is a happy thing as well! What did you have? What are your favorite kinds of sushi? How about your favorite Italian? I adore food in case you haven't noticed. :rolleyes1

I couldn't even say what my favorite italian food is - I like it all. For sushi we usually do all kids of rolls but lately I've been trying sashimi. :goodvibes

Just a teeny tiny update:

Just a teeny tiny comment: Hi.

Flash forward... I want to meet Princesses and Stitch.

To heck with the kids. It's what you want to do.

So I very quietly asked my kids yesterday if they would consider one Princess lunch at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall and I promised Norwegian food which we have very little experience with.

Dun dun dun dunnnnnnnn....

They both said yes. I blinked at them a few times, and asked if they were sure.

Score!

I tentatively brought it up to my husband last night when I was making minestrone.

One more time.
Dun dun dun dunnnnnnnn.....

He said it's not really his thing,

Uh, oh....

but this trip is for my birthday and he's glad to if it makes me happy.

She shoots, she scores again!!

I squeaked out a thank you then promptly burst into tears!

Awwww... poor lil' mermaid.

In addition hoping to meet Gaston, Rapunzel, Ariel, Flynn Ryder, Tiana, Anna, Elsa, Baymax, and Hiro!

 Well, if you've got the green light, might as well go for the whole enchilada!

Hehe smart *** :p

*** = "and wise one"

But in future, you should include the word "O".
I prefer "O smart and wise one."

Thank you.

mandatory octopus petting

I don't know why, but that strikes me as funny.

They told me I had to or else we couldn't leave

I'm sorry... they said what?!?!?
"Hello, little girl. We see that you aren't quite traumatized enough yet. Therefore, stick your hand in here, okay?"
"Sure mister... After you swim with those Great Whites... with a mesh net full of chum."

:sad2:

so I climbed up on a step stool, reached my arm into the water to touch her, and she stretches one tentacle up and wrapped it right around my arm! I yelped and started crying as her tentacle was all the way over my shoulder, it took two grown men to disentangle her, and another to hold me down. There were bruises on my arm and shoulder.

 Holy crap!!!

On the bright side, you may have been the very last kid they made stick their hand in there.

*cue nightmares forever* lol.

Yup. I can see that.
I can totally relate.

according to my husband a panicked look in my eye trying to eat those suction cups. bleh. :crazy2:

You mean like this?

I'm in! Your trip already sounds wonderful, the Poly! So jealous! It's so beautiful there, I'm afraid if I stay there someday, I won't want to leave and go to the parks!

What great intros to you and your lovely family! Your daughter's hair is so beautiful! I have curly hair and I hate it because it's gross and frizzy so I'm always super jealous of people with nice curls! :rotfl:

Can't wait to read more!
Delighted that you've joined in! I had read part of yours and "liked" it, and thought I was watching it- but I am now :D
I think you have gorgeous curls! I'm a touch jealous of all of your pretty ladies with long glossy curls! My hair is straight and it weirds my daughter out that when I blow dry my hair it ends up stick straight lol. I have a few tricks for getting wave and curl into it, but it doesn't last. :rotfl:

Is Rapunzel your favorite Princess? She is mine. :lovestruc Looking forward to getting to know you!

I love that Tink tank lol!! so cute! I'm going to probably go through my clothes first and see if I have anything that works...and then until the trip gets closer I will keep an eye out for good stuff whenever I happen to be in stores.... I haven't really given up on some ADR's that I couldn't get yet - I actually signed up with DiningBuddy for one of them...for a BOG lunch...but it said it may take a while...so that's ok. I have also heard around here that often about a month out more ADR's become available so I'm crossing my fingers there. I'd really love to go to a pre-park opening breakfast too...but none of those were available. Anyway...I'm hoping, but if I don't get any more ADR's, I'm ok...we have one good character meal at Cape May, Raglan Road and Sci-Fi...so we'll be happy no matter what. Sorry about the Pandora...although...they do have some leather bracelets...would that work?

I'll bet you'll get at least one of the ones you want! :goodvibes Oh I'll have to look up DiningBuddy that sounds handy. I want to see Sci-Fi soooooooo badly! We've never been, but that is the case with most Disney restaurants lol.

I love the idea of the leather ones, but fear they would be unsafe. At Disneyland I was wearing a long chain with a crystal my daughter gave me, going up a hill I have to lean forward to "push" my wheel rims, and the necklace got caught in my wheels pulling my head to my knees before it snapped. We found the crystal and everything but it was a disconcerting experience! It has made me much more aware of keeping things out of my wheels. lol.

Oh yumm! I like oysters and never had Oysters Rockefeller before! I would totally try them someday though.
I enjoyed it but the boys were getting antsy and my mom wasn't that happy. The best part of the day was assembling my new patio furniture and working on the yard.
Sorry they were all antsy. Super glad you had a great day anyway! Patio furniture is a perfect Mother's Day present! :D Have you gotten outside to enjoy it yet?!
I couldn't even say what my favorite italian food is - I like it all. For sushi we usually do all kids of rolls but lately I've been trying sashimi. :goodvibes
I like to make veggie lasagna and penne & cheese, but we also eat a lot of spaghetti with green olive marinara. lol. We're reversed! I was never into rolls and ate sashimi but now I'm loving rolls! Both are pretty fantastic though! :thumbsup2

I cannot eat octopus because of the suction cups. It's silly, but I just can't do it. My kids love to eat squid - I just slow cook it in tomato sauce and they eat it up. The middle two fought over the tentacles once. I'm not a fan of the squid tentacles, either.

I know we ran into Stitch a few years back at Epcot. But I just checked MDE and I didn't see him listed for any of the character spots. I don't know if the app only shows the characters remaining for that day, though.

Just a teeny tiny comment: Hi.
hi back!
To heck with the kids. It's what you want to do.
heheehe not sure they would see it like that. ;) Fun that they are willing to branch out a bit though! :D
She shoots, she scores again!!
I was stunned!

I do believe I was! Well, they may have tried to continue for a bit, but thankfully that part of the program ended. She was a neat feeling octopus though, I just DON'T. EVER. WANT. to. do. that. AGAIN!
Yup. I can see that.
I can totally relate.
I may add an octopus to the tattoo I'm designing for my arm with nerve damage. The mermaid will take up much of it though, her tail fins will wrap around my arm. :)
You mean like this?
No...more like

You're being vague. Do you or do you not want to do that again?

Cool! Will you post a pic? (Of the design, or the work in progress, or finished product, uh..... all details of your personal life... sheesh.)

Hi sweetie! Are you ready for your trip?! :hyper: Thank you very much and yes it was a really nice Mother's Day! Sending happy packing up thoughts and a dancing banana to you!!!
Hi!!! Thank you!!! And yes, I'm SOOO ready for my trip! :hyper: Been packing most of the night and trying to organize my "outfits" I also have been trying to clean here and there as coming home from vacation is bad enough, let alone to a chaotic home... :sad2:

Awwww :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc I am SO excited for you that you'll get your character meets!!! How amazing of your family! And I absolutely LOVE the idea of doing a painting and having them sign it! :thumbsup2

Happy late Mother's Day! Looks like you had a wonderful day! That fondue sounds amazing and is making me want cheese!!! I love cheese... Sorry getting side tracked by food!

Speaking of food we ate at Akershus this last trip and really enjoyed it the princesses were really fun and the food was good too. I had the ravioli and I recommend it!

I think it's great to meet characters at all ages your kids may end up loving it!!!

Also not sure if I replied to the planning before but we can def plan together! But I'm already going back and forth on the hotel now Poly, beach club, yatch club..... I have problems!!!

Yeah I've never been to Sci-Fi either but it looks awesome. It's funny because until about 5 years ago, I had never even considered doing a TS meal at Disney at all....I guess maybe because we never really had enough days in Orlando to take our time in the parks and were always rushing around just grabbing QS meals whenever or wherever. I didn't really "get" that TS meals are part of the whole experience...I guess more so when you are already in the Disney bubble lol which I also have limited experience with!

Scary about your necklace - I guess you do have to be careful. What about a shorter leather Pandora "choker" style necklace? Maybe that would be less likely to get in the way? what do I know...just a thought...if you wanted to wear Pandora somehow...Not that I usually wear it in the parks anyway lol

I will, but I gotta warn you I had drawn with sharpie on my own arm. Very wonky and errr her boobs are in the wrong places :scared: I also need it to cover up my 1st and only despised tattoo. lol. I felt really blessed and grateful!

Thank you dear! When I do 'em I'll post 'em. I usually work in oils or acrylics so wondering if I should paint them in watercolor or find something that can safely stay on acrylic. Really unsure on that.
This here are some of my paintings 1st one oils before she was finished as it is slightly NSFW. lol. 2nd is acrylic.

Happy late Mother's Day! Looks like you had a wonderful day!
It really was a special day! Happy belated Mother's Day to you as well dear!
That fondue sounds amazing and is making me want cheese!!! I love cheese... Sorry getting side tracked by food!
CHEESE!!! I'm often distracted by food so no worries there! *giggles* In fact I spent much of yesterday figuring how much we would be spending on food if we were not getting DDP. lol.
Speaking of food we ate at Akershus this last trip and really enjoyed it the princesses were really fun and the food was good too. I had the ravioli and I recommend it!
Oh spiffy! This is good to hear! The ravioli sounds tasty and meat free yay!
I think it's great to meet characters at all ages your kids may end up loving it!!!
I'm happy that they are willing to give it a shot, and I was just stunned that they were even cool with character meals!
Also not sure if I replied to the planning before but we can def plan together! But I'm already going back and forth on the hotel now Poly, beach club, yatch club..... I have problems!!!
ALL GOOD THINGS! Which does your heart of hearts want to experience?
Yeah I've never been to Sci-Fi either but it looks awesome.
It looks so fun! They only have one or two veggie options, but eh, the experience seems worth it! They also have fish, but I'm planning lobster on the 23rd my actual birthday, so trying to keep fish to a minimum. Will you be going there? :D
It's funny because until about 5 years ago, I had never even considered doing a TS meal at Disney at all.
So funny how our want and needs change, I guess it was keeps the magic alive! When my kids were young they wanted nothing to do with character dining, and now my 9 year lil' Rascal is actually excited about it!
Scary about your necklace - I guess you do have to be careful.
It was a wake up call for sure. I have serious necklace addiction and memories associated with all of them, and now I know to be more aware of what I put on my body. Can't wear long flowy skirts or longer than waist length coats for same reason.
What about a shorter leather Pandora "choker" style necklace? Maybe that would be less likely to get in the way?
Ooooh what is this thing you speak of?! Those sound pretty cool, I'll have to go check! Do you have pictures of your bracelets? Do you take them with you to Disney World?

Woke up with shoulder dislocated. Migraine in force, but at least the sun is shining! My body sounds like a bag of pop rocks today. I need to go swimming! lol. We'll go Monday, as Pete is on a deadline and we're already headed to friends house tonight as we are trying to catch them up on Game of Thrones.
Last night I started planning restaurants for Disney though, and is keeping me distracted today. Tomorrow I'm going to call and make sure I've reserved a gimpy ;) accessible room. Metal bars in the bathroom make a huge difference for safety and comfort! :D

Oh! We've been watching all the Marvel movies in order -except for Hulk as we don't have it and it sucks- and we're on Iron Man 3 in the next couple of days! As soon as we finish the Marvel movies we're going to watch DISNEY movies! Starting with Snow White! I'm so excited! After awhile we're going to watch the Star Wars movies, then back to Disney and Pixar. We intend to see as many as possible before the trip next year! I've started the list, but am going to try and take them in order- as much as possible and as far as interest lasts!

Oh dear I'm a babblebutt today, I promise the next post will stay on topic a bit better and not be quite as stream of consciousness.

This is the Pandora necklace I was thinking of

Hope that link works...am I allowed to post a link? You could just put one or two charms on it and I think you can adjust the length.

I do usually wear my bracelet...but I take off most of the charms when theme parking...because even though I don't have to worry about wheels, they can still get in the way and it also gets heavy on my arm!!

You have a LOT of movies lol I think it's a good goal though to watch a lot before going on a trip to WDW though!!

Just a teeny tiny update:
My kids have never been into meeting characters- they enjoyed it when they did meet them, but really were not the sort to seek them out. Flash forward... I want to meet Princesses and Stitch. This has filled me with melancholy as I truly believed they would balk at character meets. So I very quietly asked my kids yesterday if they would consider one Princess lunch at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall and I promised Norwegian food which we have very little experience with. They both said yes. I blinked at them a few times, and asked if they were sure.
Half of the battle won, I tentatively brought it up to my husband last night when I was making minestrone. He said it's not really his thing, but this trip is for my birthday and he's glad to if it makes me happy. I squeaked out a thank you then promptly burst into tears! This is such a shock to me, and I feel so lucky! :lovestruc They said they were willing to do any character meets that I wanted to! I'm still kind of stunned, and even writing this down has made me teary again.

So for my 41st birthday apparently I can meet any characters I want to (and that are available of course). Is Stitch anywhere but 'Ohana breakfast?

When I can I'm making reservations for Akershus -and after looking at the pictures with me my Rascal just said that he's actually kind of excited about it and is adding characters to the wishlist!
In addition hoping to meet Gaston, Rapunzel, Ariel, Flynn Ryder, Tiana, Anna, Elsa, Baymax, and Hiro! Not sure if it will happen but oh it would be exciting if it did! I'm thinking of making a small 3"x5" or 4"x6" painting of each and asking them to sign their "portrait" then framing them hanging them over my art table.

Rebecca, it sounds like you have an amazing family that wants to make your Birthday as special as possible!!!

As far as meet and greets and where the characters are located, the best site I've found so far is www.kennythepirate.com. You can view a master list of all characters and parks, or break it down by each park. He's even got a great crowd calendar.

Akershus is the only character dining we've done so far. It was amazing for the girls (my 2 girlies and my 2 nieces), we even got to meet Mary Poppins which surprisingly excited the then 6 year old whom I had no clue even knew who Mary Poppins was! LOL The kids food was great, but I found the adult entrees a bit too off (struggling for the right words here...) for my liking, I didn't think they were terrible, just not my taste, but that's just my personal opinion. My DH, sister, dad and step mom loved the food.

Your trip looks like it's going to be wonderful, and I'm enjoying coming along for the ride!

I will, but I gotta warn you I had drawn with sharpie on my own arm.

You drew it yourself???? :worship:

Very wonky and errr her boobs are in the wrong places :scared:

If they're on her knees, then yes. That's wrong. Unless she's older... :rolleyes1

Not sure about the birds now, as I'm considering making the whole arm under water with a *shiver* octopus on my shoulder and a tiny bit of collar bone.

I will give you an honest thought as opposed to a generic "That's nice."
I hope you don't mind. If you do. Just ignore me (most do) and move on.
But considering it's a tattoo and pretty much permanent... well if it was me, I'd want people to comment honestly.

Anyway.

I clicked on the pic to get a better look.
I may be dumb, it may be the angle or it may be because it was sketched... but I didn't get what I was looking at in the bottom right corner picture. Is that the tail? Wasn't sure.

You are drawing her with a tail, right? Bottom left corner?
If so, then I agree with your thought about making her in the water.
I know you said you like to swim, plus that would be (to me) more natural.
A fish out of water is sad, a fish in water is beautiful... same goes for mermaids, no?

So... the birds didn't fit in my picture.
I don't know if you want a suggestion, but if you want some critters holding it up...
I've always liked Moorish Idols.
Alternates: Clownfish, Mantis shrimp or Mandarinfish.

Woke up with shoulder dislocated.

Oh, no! Did you pop it back in? Or did you have to see a doctor?

Migraine in force,

Because the shoulder wasn't enough. Here's a (gentle) hug for ya.

but at least the sun is shining!

Anyone ever tell you, you're amazing?

My body sounds like a bag of pop rocks today. I need to go swimming! lol.

Good! Come by our place! We just got the pool open. I'd like to see somebody use it, considering how much the darned thing costs!

Tomorrow I'm going to call and make sure I've reserved a gimpy ;) accessible room.

Tell 'em you can have mine.
My back's doing a bit better, thankyouverymuch.

Metal bars in the bathroom make a huge difference for safety and comfort! :D

Is that what those are for?
I was putting my socks on them.

:rolleyes1

Oh! We've been watching all the Marvel movies in order

Nice.

Oh dear I'm a bablebutt today, I promise the next post will stay on topic a bit better and not be quite as stream of consciousness.

I like it when you're a babblebutt.

Our (Evolving) List of Disney, Marvel, Studio Ghibli, Pixar Feature Films

You have 48 hours.... Go!
(I think some of those might be tough to find, no?)

ETA. Forgot to add that I liked your paintings too!
(Especially the slightly NSFW one... :rolleyes1)

Breath of fresh air right there! Yes, a mermaid out of water is a sad creature, and always longing for the ocean! That is her tail. Must explain the tracks on my arm. lol. I have nerve damage in this arm from needles and blood draws. I've had surgery since age 8 and while most everyone was really good at drawing blood (tests, bags of blood to transplant during surgery) a few were NOT. Really truly not. They tore my skin and veins. bleh. :crazy2: So. I decided the only real way to take back that arm was to cover it in artwork. lol. Barely works some days anyway. lol. Terrific advice by the way! I just adore you! No offense to Ruby or Tracy ;) ! *giggle* :grouphug:
Oh, no! Did you pop it back in? Or did you have to see a doctor?

I've been relocating them since I was 7.
Because the shoulder wasn't enough. Here's a (gentle) hug for ya.
I love hugs!!!
Anyone ever tell you, you're amazing?
This made me burst into tears, thanks for that...

YES! Be right there! *flippin' my fins* Umm, which direction is it again?!

How badly did you injure it?! Is it better? Can't tell if sarcasm or not...

:rotfl:
Such fun, I'm a fan of the Marvel movies. Tonight though we delve back into Game of Thrones as we're taking the Apple TV over for friends.
I like it when you're a babblebutt.
:goodvibes

Yes! Some may well be impossible! I even briefly contemplated Song of the South, as it is an interesting jumping in point for ethics, history of slavery :( , classism, and racism :( among other things.

Why thank ya kindly! As soon as this hand heals up -that i broke in DL- I'll be back to it. I have lots of NSFW art lol. Weird to paint things your kids can't actually see. :scared1: but eh. I also do plenty that they can view...humans are multifaceted beings after all.

Yikes!!! Sorry to hear about your shoulder! :sad2: But happy Disney restaurant day dreaming is a good distraction! Disney distractions are the best, aren't they?! :goodvibes

Must explain the tracks on my arm. lol.

Am I a dolt because I never even noticed them? Or just hopelessly naive?

while most everyone was really good at drawing blood (tests, bags of blood to transplant during surgery) a few were NOT. Really truly not. They tore my skin and veins.

I get it. Ruby has very small veins. She always tells them to use a butterfly cathether and sometimes they do.
Other times they say they can do it without.... try for a while... then use it.

I decided the only real way to take back that arm was to cover it in artwork.

Wonderful idea. Love it.

I just adore you!

Well of course you do! What's not to love? I'm very loveable... just ask... uh... just ask... hmmm....

I adore me too!!!

No offense to Ruby or Tracy ;) ! *giggle*

:lmao:

Oh okay. I'd do the same.
Well maybe not.

Actually, I'd be more like
panic_zpsyeaj3gr7.gif

Well, maybe not waving the dislocated one...

This made me burst into tears, thanks for that...

:goodvibes
Now stop that! You're gonna make me cry and then POOF! no more man card.

YES! Be right there! *flippin' my fins* Umm, which direction is it again?!

When the sun comes up in the morning, look a little to the left of it.
I'm right there.

How badly did you injure it?! Is it better? Can't tell if sarcasm or not...

No not sarcasm, but nowhere near as serious as... well, almost anyone.
Just a prolapsed disc (probably).
For fun, read chapters 18 and 19 of my Euro trip TR
(links below if you're interested. The links in the TR got messed up with the move.)

I even briefly contemplated Song of the South, as it is an interesting jumping in point for ethics, history of slavery :( , classism, and racism :( among other things.

Actually, I'd like to see it for those exact same reasons.

Why thank ya kindly! As soon as this hand heals up -that i broke in DL- I'll be back to it. I have lots of NSFW art lol. Weird to paint things your kids can't actually see. :scared1: but eh. I also do plenty that they can view...humans are multifaceted beings after all.

Do you have them on a website or something? Love to see them.
