The Tenth Honeymoon is the Best One of Them All! - May '14 TR - COMPLETED 4/19

Who knew I'd learn so much reading this TR? :thumbsup2

Oh Duffy. I don't really mind him. He's the one character and stuffed animal that we've managed to avoid thus far. I suspect that won't last much longer.

Yay beer!

wow - those are some interesting tid-bits! Nice to see the U.S. still on top of the scientific world ... as well as the "Having Walt Disney World" world. :thumbsup2

I tend to be a bit anti-Duffy only b/c it seems like something they came up with just to sell all the outfits ... but then I see a super cute outfit and kinda forget about that

That grapefruit beer from Germany is pretty darn good. They were offering free samples of it at the grocery store one day ... made that pretty much the best trip to the grocery store ever

Garden Grill is delicious! It's served family style, and you get some sort of beef (I don't eat that), turkey and stuffing, and their fresh fish of the day. It's all you can eat, and what you don't eat gets composted or somehow recycled, and the veggies they serve come from the food you see in the LIving with the Land ride! Also, the restaurant spins and it's a character meal. Our kids requested it again for this year.

I think I might have to get one of those hats.

As for your updates, Love all the close ups of WS from across the lake/lagoon. Cool perspective! We've never met Duffy. I just can't get on board with the whole thing, but if our kids want to see him this year, of course we will let them! He is cute!

We'll have to take a closer look at Garden Grill in the future. The rotating part looks fun :)

She loves the hat!

I've never been behind that Duffy store, but it does have a great view! I wasn't passing that up. Thanks!

Duffy. I still haven't figured that out (except the Japanese love it and they brought it here). But Emily looks very happy to see him and that is all that counts.

Beautiful pictures of all of the countries; love that you added those interesting tidbits.

Is that the grapefruit beer?

Yes, Duffy is HUGE in Japan, and he's pretty big here now, too. There is a Duffy show in Tokyo Disney, I believe. Dylan gave Emily his Duffy now, so she has two :)

Yes, that's the grapefruit beer.

Yay beer!

I'm here to inform you! About what, who knows.

The character is "super soft", by Emily's account.

LOL about Duffy :)

I'll have to look into how much a case of it is, because it is good. Really good.

I love free samples! They have them at the beer store I go to, but I always feel guilty if I don't buy the beer I'm sampling. I won't make eye contact with the Bud Light Lime sample girl as I walk out with my case of Victory Hop Wallop.

Now, on to that beer...

Grapefruit beer secured...let's have another look at that, shall we?

Ahhh...

Kristin and the kids are at the China pavilion. Dylan wants to buy one of those marionettes, but we know there's no way he'd ever use it. He argues (no surprise) that he has his own money, but we're not giving in. Forget it, kid!

The acrobats are coming out soon, and if anyone has not seen the acrobats, they're amazing. They never mess up. Ever. It's unreal.

A few shots before they arrive...

...which is good, because we didn't get any during the performance. What? Kristin had the camera, but was too far back. We at least got video of it, but that doesn't do you any good now, does it?

So let's get out of China and forget this ever happened. Let's go that way:

Sounds good.

Ok, let's move a little faster.

Whoa, too fast!

Somehow, we got from China to inside the American Adventure. This was a lantern in the side-exhibit documenting the progress of African-American rights and equality in America, and was very informative. Also very inspirational.

The lanterns had a handle you turned to bring up the hologram inside, which was really cool.

Kristin and Em were watching the singers, and we meet up when they finish. Going in!

Not to give the U.S. preferential treatment over China, I don't take any more pictures in here. Or give any detailed description of what we experienced.

But we do head out to the Liberty Inn to see what that's all about.

The menu doesn't look like anything special, so we'll probably pass on this one. Enough other great choices in the park, anyway. They do have historic flags I can't identify without looking up, though:

After America, it's back to Germany...

Where we take a quick pause for a photo...

...but otherwise, keep moving.

There's time for another photo in China...

...but otherwise, keep moving.

Not even time for a pose in Norway...

...but we didn't stop there, either. Oh, shoot - didn't I mention? We have 4:50 Fast Passes for Test Track! Didn't you remember? Well, that's where we're heading. Look, monorail!

Sorry, I'm easily distrac-look, Test Track!

The kids are actually cooperating (WHAT?) on a car:

Kristin's making one of her own, too:

Finished products!

I love this part of Test Track. I wish they could have the old ride back, but with the design phase. Don't even integrate it into the ride. It's not necessary.

We managed to get a car by ourselves! May crowds!

Dylan and Emily got up on the board:

After the ride, I ran out for more FPs while the kids hammed it up:

And played:

And more ham:

There's a lot to do outside this attraction! You could spend an hour just in here.

I returned with 7:00pm FPs for the Maelstrom, which should come up right after dinner. We're at the San Angel Inn for the first time together, so back to Mexico we go:

Hey, it's that guy from Coronado Springs!

Inside, there's always time for a sombrero shot...

...and, in our case tonight, time for a ride of El Rio del Tiempo!

Eating there later:

But back to the ride:

I didn't get any photos of the animated Three Amigos stuff, which is intentional, because I'm not crazy about the Three Amigos stuff. I want the old videos back! Still a really fun ride, and NEVER crowded.

We put our names in, but had a few minutes, so more photos are in order:

I love the things they have in here, but never enough to buy anything. Very rarely. Another sombrero shot!

One more before we sit down:

Kristin tells me the SAI has really cool bathrooms, and she was right. We're seated soonafter.

Can you spot the differences between the last two photos. I counted one, but there may be more. Answers in next month's People Magazine!

These guys (I'm from Pennsylvania, so I say "these guys") are at the restaurant, too:

Brew Works shirt #2! More to come!

Equal airtime rules apply here:

This is a really neat place for a restaurant. And, if you haven't noticed, it has a yellow theme.

Like Maya Grill. Is it yellow all the time in Mexico? If not, what gives?

Whoa, inappropriate! Besides, my beer's here.

There was some discussion pre-trip about why we are eating at two Mexican restaurants in a row (two yellow-themed ones, no less), but here we are. And I like Dos Equis. At least, I convince myself I do when I'm at Mexican restaurants and there are no better options.

It's hot today, though, so this goes down nicely. More photos before we get our food:

We keep looking for the Hidden Mickey in the volcano smoke, and we THINK we see it. Possibly. We think.

Food's here!

Kristin got - guess what? A steak! What a shocker! Carne Asada, to be exact:

Dylan got the Pollo a las Rajas:

"Grilled chicken breast served over red peppers, onions, chile poblano, chorizo (Mexican sausage) and melted cheese", according to WDWInfo. Kind of a reach for him.

I should've taken the advice of Britbrie's Trip Report and got that, too, but went with the shrimp instead:

Hey, why isn't it yellow? Well, the waiter saw me taking a picture, and shined his little flashlight on it. It looked much better than when I tried to use the flash!

As for the meal...it was good, but, sad to say, was nowhere near as good as what I had for lunch at Sunshine Seasons. "Camarones al Guajillo - Crispy shrimp with Guajillo sauce, served over a bed of potato relish" - WDWInfo; the shrimp ad sauce were really good, but lunch was just that darned delicious! Should've went with the chicken, but oh well. Far from horrible.

Emily got the kids' quesadilla:

I got to eat most of her rice, and a lot of Dylan's meal, so it wasn't a total loss.

For dessert, Kristin got caramel ice cream:

Dylan got caramel cheesecake:

I got the chocolate mousse:

Emily got churros:

Can't argue with all that! In all, the meal was fun and good, but nothing spectacular. The setting topped the food, IMO. But still, another enjoyable meal!

We still have time before our FPs are ready, so we get a few more shots before leaving this pavilion until next year:

They love Mexico, apparently.

Outside, Kristin gets another amazing flower photo:

And I get another amazing Kristin with the Meow Meow Hat photo:

We ride the Maelstrom next, and it's enjoyable as always. But that's the end of it. It's 7:30, and we're ready to head out. No Illuminations again tonight. We're tired!

I would say that we're slowing down in general if it were not for how much we accomplished each day. We managed to ride Soarin', Test Track, AND Maelstrom today, plus we saw a lot of World Showcase. Tomorrow, it's back to the Magic Kingdom....with Anna and Else FastPasses!

You did pack a lot in! That's my kind of vacationing. :)

We like the 3 Cabelleros ride, but I was never on the original, so I have nothing to compare it to. My kids just like when Donald loses his bathing suit. :sad2:

We haven't been on the new Test Track yet either. It was still being refurbed when we were there last time. I'm excited to ride that again because it's been 13 years!

Love the re-creation picture of the Lion King!

Can't wait to hear about A&E! I just got our FP+ ressies for them last week. I was only able to get them for the last day of our trip!

Great update! I think that Duffy is really cute, he does look soft and cuddly. Love the pics of Test Track, I think that's one of the ones I am most looking forward to trying with the new update when we go in September. we just booked a (for me the planner) a last minute trip for 9/25 - 10/2!! :yay: Can't wait!

I love the Mexico ride, and I do like Donald Duck being part of it but I'm like you I miss those videos, they were really funny how the street vendor followed you from screen to screen. I liked the cheesy little song at the end, too. I really want to try San Angel Inn one of these days but Biergarten and Via Napoli won out for our 2 Epcot days. Oh, well, next time...

Wait until you see what we pack into Day 7!

The new Test Track is a lot of fun. And it's the same ride, with different theming. 13 years? Wow! We whined when we missed it that ONE year :)

We did the Lion King picture when Emily was one, as evident by this blurry photo:

Have fun! That time should be great. Be sure to meet Duffy!

The street vendor was the best! Let me know how Via Napoli is. It looks interesting! Reminds me of Enchanted :)

Alright, Day 7!

We woke up on Tuesday early, getting to the bus stop right around 8:00. The bus isn't here yet, so there's time for some column-leaning:

We get to Magic Kingdom at 8:30, with a half hour to spare before opening ceremonies. Dylan jokes about trying to hurdle the post again, and I tell him not to even mess around.

A security guard with a dog is over by the fence, and a bird swoops down at the dog. The dog shrugs it off. The bird comes back. The dog is losing patience. The bird comes back again, and the dog gets mad.

The guard pulls the leash, and he's calm again. But man, I've never seen a bird go after a dog like that. I swear, WDW is causing a Hitchcock-like situation in Florida. I saw a bird pecking at a snake a few years back at Wilderness Lodge.

Lots of action here today! I'm "backpack through security" guy this year, and I'm getting good. Every out and unzipped by the time I reach the agent. And in we go.

Getting close to opening. Emily wants another photo, though:

And here comes the mayor! I wonder when he's up for re-election. I may just throw my hat into that ring. I think I'd do a good job.

People dancing and pretending to sing are next:

And now, the train:

Holy crap, Talking Mickey! He's here! Is it happening today? Do we get to meet him?

Family of the Day! Congrats, the whatever family from some state!

...and KABOOM.

I've talked about this before, but I tear up during that entire thing. Especially when the characters arrive. I lose it. But then again, I'm constantly in tears in Disney World.

Our FPs for today are really wacky. As I mentioned earlier, Kristin somehow managed to acquire a single FastPass to meet Elsa and Anna, then switched it to Emily's name, with the hope that she'd be allowed in without one. Later on, she DID get one, so that was all sorted out. Mostly. Here are our FPs for the day:

9:15 Space Mountain for Emily
9:10 Space Mountain for everyone else

No big deal, but we had to do hers separately, for some reason. It was a major pain, especially since any tweaks came with the fear of accidentally deleting the Elsa and Anna FPs.

10:05 Elsa and Anna for Emily
10:20 Elsa and Anna for Kristin
10:15 Splash Mountain for Dylan and me

11:25 Big Thunder for everyone except Emily
2:00 Peter Pan's Flight for Emily

We originally had Peter Pan for all of us - well, Emily separate, but at a close time - but we wanted to switch those to BTMRR. We were able to do it for Kristin, Dylan, and me, but no luck with Emily's. This is getting frustrating! Of course, ultimately, it didn't need to be, but more on that later.

So the plan is to just try to get Emily on with us, without an FP. Hopefully, that won't be a problem. Perhaps my previous foreshadowing answers that ;)

The rope dropped, and on we went. Towards Fantasyland, with everyone else.

It was a funny sight, watching the sea of people heading around the Carousel (Who owns it these days? Still Prince Charming?) to get in line for E&A.

We hung a left toward Peter Pan, and on we got. Immediately. But first - Hidden Mickey!

We always say, "hi, Nana" to the animatronic dog - sorry, to the actual, live Nana - our first time riding this every trip. Then, we say "bye" on our last. So it's "hi" today, and around we go.

I love this ride. The insane lines for it make no sense, but it's a lot of fun when you're on it.

After Pan, we went over to ride Pooh. But first, photos!

And now one with people we know!

Emily has the map to prove what park we're in, in case there is any dispute. Wow, Mine Cart is like Fort Knox!

Why can't it be open? Don't they know how much we want to ride it?

There is no wait at all for Winnie the Pooh, which proves that wonderful things happen at rope drop, if you do it right. No time to play, kids - c'mon!

After that, we pause for a photo...

...take another longing photo of the Mine Cart...

...and ride the Mad Tea Party.

It's not even 10:00 yet, and we're on our third ride. These days, the kids ride separate, because this:

We got about 75 photos of them on this ride, but they're all essentially what you just saw. So here's a teapot instead:

Remember when I said it wasn't 10:00 yet? Well, it's still not. Which is great, because we have FPs for Space Mountain that expire at 10:10.

So what time is it, exactly? Sorry, don't recall. But wait - I remember now. It's Buzz Lightyear time! But first, how do we navigate this crowd in Tomorrowland?

Emily flagrantly violates the "don't cross the chain" rule for this blurry photo.

Emily and Kristin ride together, and Kristin crushed it:

I did as well, but won't show the photo because Dylan was making a ridiculous face. We step back out into Tomorrowland, and it's time to ride Space Mountain.

...

Ok, I don't have any photos, beyond Dylan playing pinball in the gift shop.

Well, actually, he's just looking at a pinball machine. We're at Disney Quest tomorrow, so we're not spending money on it here. So that's Space Mountain!

Ok, it's a bit more exciting than that. In fact, we're all rapidly starting to love Space Mountain more and more. It's so wild that it's a blast. I get seriously injured every time I ride it, but it's well worth it.

In fact, so worth it that we rode it again, Standby. It was basically a walk-on. Not quite, but 5 minutes tops. Love this ride!

Afterwards, it was back to Fantasyland, where Kristin and the kids rode Somebody's Royal Carousel prior to our split. But first, photos!

Boooooooo!!!!

Nothing wrong here, just taking photos as I walk. Never mind me.

This park is empty. I love it! Wait for E&A right now is 3 hours, though. Forget it!

Slow down. We will see Philharmagic, but not right now. It's time to part ways. Kristin and Emily have a date with royalty, and it's time for Dylan and me to be movin' along.

But first, Castle pics!

That doesn't look like a long line. But it is.

Now for those Carousel pics!

Timing the photos is always fun. I got some notes entered into the iPod so I can write this Trip Report as well, so my non-ride was quite productive!

Off the ride they come, and, that's all for tonight update. But what a morning, eh? Pan, Pooh, Tea Cups, Buzz, Space, Space again, and the Carousel. And we've been here under two hours. And it's not even lunchtime!

[POST=52018979](next update)[/POST]

Awesome morning at MK! Pooh and Peter pan are 2 of my priorities this upcoming trip, I love them both and didn't get to go on either one the last trip. We have a 7:45am ADR at Kona Cafe that day so we should be to the park by rope Drop or shortly after I think.

It's funny, I just made an ADR earlier this evening (last night? looking at the time.. LOL) for Artist Point then I come on here and that's the next one for you! Can't wait to hear all about it.

Yeah! Another nilla Trip Report! It's like going on Netflix and discovering they loaded the next season of one of your favorite shows.

Ugh, the intermission about Kristin's broken foot last year hit home for me. Last November I broke my foot on the stairs too. Spiral fracture of the 5th metatarsal of my left foot. Not fun! Luckily it happened right after we returned home from Disney.

Ironing-ha. The only time I iron (maiden) is for our Disney vacations. I actually look forward to it. For all non-Disney times of the year we are a rumpled mess.

Thanks for writing another Trip Report. We forgive you for not writing one last year. Maybe.

Debbie

I love free samples! They have them at the beer store I go to, but I always feel guilty if I don't buy the beer I'm sampling. I won't make eye contact with the Bud Light Lime sample girl as I walk out with my case of Victory Hop Wallop.

Now, on to that beer...

haha - yesterday we were walking out of BJs as someone was walking back in with a case of Bud Light explaining that it was defective. My thought was "well, yeah, it's Bud Light" ;)
