The old world of color was better than the new one?

Just polling the audience here - was the old one better when I read fan site reviews it seems like world of color was better in the older incarnation...

Just wondering if it's the same here?

For me, it was kind of a mixed bag. WoC: Celebrate does have some nice Disneyland Resort-centric touches (which fits well with the fact it debuted for the 60th anniversary). I liked the song associated with the finale and the tribute to Walt Disney, but I found parts to be kind of slow and I wasn't a huge fan of NPH's singing voice (normally his voice doesn't bother me, but it was kind of thin compared to the other soloists). The original WoC was much more Disney Movie-centric, which was fun in its own way. I liked the familiar movie and music clips, but the show had some slow parts and some rather abrupt transitions (that didn't feel like they were there for dramatic effect, but rather because they just needed to jump from one thing to the next). Winter Dreams, was okay, but it was too Frozen-centric for me. Overall, I think I like the original WoC slightly more, but not enough to say that for me the original or WoC: Celebrate is markedly better.

I agree that there seemed to be some abrupt transitions in the new one. And of course, you have the needless insertion of a Frozen song, which elicits a chorus of groans from the audience when it comes on. That part really feels like it was jammed in there last minute. However, the rest of the show isn't bad at all, and there are some parts I really like. To be honest I don't remember the original being all that different. Lots of movie clips, colorful dancing lights, etc. I don't remember thinking it was amazingly better.

I don't think the new show is bad, but I do much prefer the original show. I loved that one! I haven't seen the winter holiday's show, so no opinion on that.

Apparently from other board and blog sources the Frozen segment was in fact jammed in there by higher ups at the last minute during the "Frozen everywhere...now" frenzy. While this could be speculation, the abrupt change in flow of the show would lend credence to this rumor. The "Why the Frozen interlude" (we call it WTFi) is the only low point for us and we really enjoy the show. For us it's comparable to or slightly better than the old show and invokes fond memories and has a similar power to the old show. A a closet Disney historian I really like the nod to Walt and the DLR history.

DH and I much prefer the original show. The new one has too much Neil Patrick Harris-- and we love Neil Patrick Harris. DD (9) actually likes the new one better- but when we went last summer, she was in the middle of a total obsession with the history of Walt Disney so that is probably part of it. I would like to see elements of the new and old put together. More of the old with all the movie stuff, but with a little more Walt thrown in- maybe even a little NPH, but less than he is in it now.

I actually liked the frozen sequence as if was timed and done with the lights in the water prefectly.

I gotta say that when I watch the original on YouTube I get "the feels". I get the same watching celebrate the magic castleshow in florida.

Sorry but the new one just does not have any "feelings" too it - there is WAY too much NPH in it and I visually cringed when he started singing celebrate the magic ...the original which I've never seen in person but online gives me that Disney feeling.

I AM going to return to Disneyland hopefully soon, and I hope the 60th WOC is taken down by then.

I agree with ktlm in that the new WOC has too much Neil Patrick Harris. I prefer the old version as I prefer to see the parts with Disney movie clips, it kinda takes you back and gives me more of an oohhh aaahhh effect as you see the movies you remember & love.

I like the original, though there have been segments put in that I didn't like as much, like the Brave promotion, which I thought was way too long and dragged. I do like the use of the video screens in the current show which the other versions didn't have. Hate the pyrotechnics. It rained sooty water on us and ruined a white shirt I was wearing.

The original I would go see on a regular basis and make it a point to go see it. With the latest version I only go if I am taking someone that has not seen it before.

Have little desire to see the new version over and over again.

Bring back the original!

And the way the original was structured they could have swapped segments in and out to keep it evolving. But now they've added narration and it's not even a coherent story. And they've shoehorned in that Frozen part, which is contradictory to what they're trying to do. I'm not a big Frozen fan, but the Winter version works better, because the story in more linear and the narrator fits in better. I don't care if they bring back the exact original version, but I like the way the show was just various music clips and effects without trying to retell a well told story.

The original was an epic deign of story telling through the water fountains and visuals. The new version is just a lot of not great video and the water fountains take a back seat to an in your face attempt to evoke an emotional connection...and in my opinion, fail at that attempt.

Yup, what others already said so eloquently. The original show (the truly original show, before even it was diluted with Brave, etc.) was a classic Disney masterpiece. The new one is a mediocre show that seems as though the storytelling and overwhelming use of effects were done by interns.

Oh this makes me sad. I have never been to DLR before and was so excited to see this show. I'm not a NPH fan in general :duck:and was really looking forward to movie references. Does this not have like Pocahontas and Lion King and stuff at all? (I have seen snippets of the old one on youtube)

On paper the new version sounds like it should be a good show...it feature archival clips of Walt Disney, old Mickey Mouse cartoons, movie clips (including Lion King, but no Pocahontas that I recall), and Disneyland attraction. In practice, however, the execution of the show is lacking.

I love the old version much better -- except the Merida part. They should trim that down and insert "Let it Go" - boom, done, magic.

Nope!

Again the old one had that Disney feeling to it that this new one is sorely lacking.

I like the new* one better.

By "new" I mean the one that eventually replaces whatever that thing passed as "World of Color" I saw a couple of weeks ago.

LOVE, LOVE , LOVE the old version much better but, still enjoy the new one ( however, too much Star Wars for me)
