I never took walk breaks until I started running with my coach! I will never forget that first run! At 1.5 she said ok now we walk 60 secs. I said we what?? She said yeah that's where the water stations are. We walk. And low and behold Every 1.5 we walked 60 seconds and I went from barely getting through 3 miles to loving 6 in a week!

In regards to timing, they were saying if you said you would finish in less than 2:45 without proof it would be H. Since up put 2:50 you should be in a earlier corral, since proof is not needed for a 2:50 finish time.

Sorry, let me explain. If you put 2:45-3:30, you do not need proof. A 2:50 last year would have been about E without proof.

However, say you put 2:30 and then never did a 10K and never got proof. In that case, you would be put back in H. It's basically a penalty so as not to encourage people to put times that are low that they can't back up. Otherwise, everyone would magically be running a 1:30 half marathon! This only applies to times of less than 2:45.

    Hope that makes sense.

Let me know how the 10K goes and hoping it is so much better than my turkey trot in Boerne this past Saturday. I do believe I will sign up for the Hero-half in January...running coach put it on my training schedule so I will give it a try. Please volunteer for it...may need someone to carry me to my car after the race ! :rotfl2:

I got my MRI results today and the outcome was better than I'd hoped!! The MRI confirmed that it is indeed a stress fracture of the tibia but only a very slight one and there is no crack in the bone. And as a matter of fact it's already healing nicely! A my first appointment my doctor had prepared me to be out for at least 6 weeks (or longer) with no running at all and no weight bearing exercise. But now he gave me the ok to work out and do some walking right now and then in two weeks I can start a slow, easy run/walk!! I start physical therapy right away as well. I'm going to work hard this time not to do too much too soon and get injured again.

I have been so depressed that I haven't been able to do anything for the last two weeks but today I'm a happy camper! :cool1: I'd planned to start training at the end of December to walk it and not get swept but now maybe I'll even get to run a little of it!

I swear, every other woman I see running is just bouncing around everywhere and it makes me hurt just looking at it! Would someone at a running store be able to help with sports bra fittings, the way lingerie stores help with regular bra fittings? Where does a girl go for help, when it's time to try on bras?
I don't have this problem, though. As Kelly Rippa once said, after two kids it's more like origami. I just roll 'em up and go! ; )

I always wear a regular bra and a sports bra top. I think I'm just better fit for walking a light jog. I have spent so much money over the years on sports bras. I'm happy with walking the half marathon. For me it's all about finishing it no matter how it happens. I don't even care if I'm the last one to cross that line!

The underwire in bras would cut into me so bad! I used to do this too. But I wouldn't recommend it.

Right?! So painful looking! I literally strap mine down to the point where I feel I look flat chested (my friend told me otherwise, but I thought it was pretty convincing!) I like ZERO movement. I've been to a couple running/bra stores and they aren't really much help. The woman from the running store didn't have girls so she was just kind of like "I mean... you could try this? I dunno.. I don't have this busty problem..." And I just stood there like, OH thanks. The bra store was even less helpful. They never measure me right, so I go solo on my missions!

You would wear a bra that does not have an underwire. I do that sometimes but usually I just were two sports bras.

I completely gave up on appropriately sized sports bras. I am a 34F and I just cram them into a L or XL regular sports bra. The standard, no wires, no hook/eye, no frills, stretch them over your head and shove what you've got in place kind. I have no problems with bouncing or pain and they're so much more comfortable than the ones they make special for bigger busts. (It's funny how I try not to use the other b word because it got censored on here once before so I now live in fear of being flagged as a foul-mouth because I talk about sports bras. :rotfl2: )

:cool1::cool1::cool1: Good news!! Take it slow, don't rush it. I'm happy to hear you can start moving soon!

I got fed up yesterday with the pain in my foot and out of desperation grabbed the "cushion" asics I bought for the WDW trip and shoved the insole in them. I walked the dog and was shocked to find the bunion was NOT hurting and the heel had only minimal pain! I wore them all day and the bunion was fine! The heel was tender, but I did a lot of walking. So, I know I need a wider toe box area with no fabric going over the bunion. Guess I get to go play the shoe game again.:( Not happy about that, but happy I might be able to start moving again. I was close to loosing all hope!

RE: Sports Bras: Sam's Club sells a "high impact" one in a 2 pack for $18. I love them. They have the hook on the back to adjust it if needed and makes it easier to get on. It might be something to check out if you are near one.

I got my pelvic/hip xray done today, and saw my Dr. It's good news! I don't have a shred of arthritis! My bones are dense, my hips are perfect, and my pelvis could fit a 10lb baby hahahahha. My problem is all in the ligaments and muscles that are very tight, and it can be helped by exercises and hot yoga! YAY! She also found that i must have broken my tailbone when i was young because it's misaligned. I told her I fell off a stool directly onto my tailbone soooo hard when i was 12-13 and just dealt with the pain :-/

She also had me do a lumbar xray bc of my L5 bulging disk issue that persists and the disk is definitely compressed. We are going to do an mri. In that film she found i have 5 1/2 vertebra down there where typical people have 5!!! What the what??!! Hahahhaa. I'm a special one.

So there you have it folks! Only elliptical and the exercises for now which is A-ok. I will hit the mean streets of LI in a couple weeks.

So after over a year of this running thing, I have finally gotten to the point where I can run my short runs significantly faster than my long runs. I know that's how it's supposed to work but I never could do it. I was about the same pace for all my runs. Somehow over the last few weeks I've realized I have the leg strength to run faster. Could I keep it up for the longer distances? No. But I'm pretty sure the longer distances will eventually catch up.

I feel fine when I walk, my pace is ok, I am improving on distance but my hip flexors hurt afterwards. I stretch but doesn't seem to be working. Any suggestions?

Do you use a foam roller? If not that's where I'd start. Use it daily, also before every run.
