Some day I am going to get to go to the Tea. It is just not something that DS wants to do! He would if I asked but knowing that he would be uncomfortable, I will wait until DH can go with me in the future!

Glad you two were able to get there nice & dry! We were wet enough for all of us! :upsidedow

That was so nice of the good folks at WL to arrange for the transportation to get to GF! Glad you were able to keep your tradition alive! :) Crazy rains! I remember seeing Vicki's photos and that was just wild.

Do they accept TiW at the GF tea? It may be on my radar for December....hmmm... ladies tea. Sounds good!

Barb: I'm so glad that you shared your proud mom photo of your DS and his girlfriend. They look so lovely!

That was so nice of the CM at WL to call a cab for you :)

Looks like your tea at the GF was delicious. In the UK Scones would always be served with a fruit conserve, nearly always strawberry, rather than lemon curd so you certainly went for the traditional choice!

Brenda, I am pretty sure that they do take TIW (think I read on someone else's review)

Great Review of the Garden View Tea Room.

DD & I have also made it a mother/daughter tradition to go to the tea. We love it.

I am going to take the suggestion to substitute the shrimp tea sandwich for another but I really like the egg salad, so I am going to trade for that one. I also like that you went ala carte. We have a plan to do this also but DD is 11, so she is still going to get the Mrs. Potts tea and she is picky. So it is all good. I want DD to try the scones this time. So I plan to order a plate of scones for her.

    I can't wait to return!

I can confirm that they do indeed accept the TIW card at the GF Tea.

Ladies tea sounds so fun!!! We have to do something fun like that.

Barb- love your son's girlfriends dress! So pretty.

And that lemon curd was amazing. I as well could drink a glass of it!

I am definitely going to give the lemon curd a try next time. I'm not a big fan of lemon generally, but I need to satisfy my curiosity. I figure that if I don't like it, I can always switch back to the tried and true strawberry preserves, right? ;)

It looks like maybe we should add a ladies' tea at the GVL as an option for a DISmeet in December. What do you think, Linda? :)

Actually shrimp salad is what they used to have as part of their 5 tea sandwich assortment at the Garden View and it was always good. This last visit though it had been replaced by the smelly salmon, which was not good at all. Not sure if the change is a permanent one or temporary. And of course, there is also a possibility that we just had a bad (old???) batch. On a positive note, at least it didn't make us sick...which I was a little afraid of. :crazy2:

Looks like you already got your answer Brenda. I think I should go back and add that valuable piece of information to my review, as the Garden View tea is one of those iffy places that you wouldn't assume offered the TIW discount since they are not on the DDP and as far as I know don't offer any other discounts like AP or DVC.

Yay for the pear & gorgonzola! :cheer2: But I have to ask...did Rachel substitute too or did she give the salmon a try? I'm very curious to know if we had a bad batch or if their salmon salad always tastes "like a barn smells". :lmao:

Our original plan for after our tea was for DD and I to take the monorail to the Polynesian to meet up with Vicki (GoofySon'sMom) and Andrew. My DH and DS were to drive from the Wilderness Lodge and meet us there as well. However, during our tea, I received a text from Vicki saying they had been forced to return to AoA to dry out after getting caught in the storm at Magic Kingdom. Consequently, they wouldn't be able to make it for our DISmeet at the Poly. But don't worry folks, 'cause neither rain, nor wind, nor soaking wet clothes would keep us from meeting. We would just have to wait a bit longer. ;)

But with the Polynesian DISmeet cancelled, DH picked us up when we finished our tea and we returned to the Wilderness Lodge. It was about this time that DH told me that he didn't want to go with us to dinner that night because he wanted to stay in the room and watch the Illinois basketball game (NCAA tourney). Being the good wife that I am ;), I not only let him off the hook for dinner but I also offered to go down to Roaring Forks to get him something to eat while he watched the game.

And so that is why my next dining review is titled,

    Dinner for One from...

First a couple of menu pics...

And a few display case pics...

A few of the Roaring Fork cupcake offerings...

    Carrot cake, Chocolate, and S'mores

I'm still kicking myself for not getting one of those S'mores cupcakes!!!

But DH said he wanted something light and since he had enjoyed my Colony Salad from lunch so much ;), I decided to get him a similar salad which was listed on the menu at Roaring Fork.

Wilderness Salad with Chicken, Walnuts, Apples, Cheddar Cheese, and Croutons
    His Rating - 3/5

He said this was good but not nearly as good as the one at Liberty Tree Tavern. Of course, his opinion may have been negatively affected by the fact that Illinois got beat by Miami that night (63 - 59) and their season came to an end. My DH claims that the victory was stolen from Illinois by a bad call from the refs near the end of the game. So I'm thinking that perhaps his dinner that night may have tasted a bit like sour grapes??? ;)

Next up: The rest of the family has dinner at Tony's

    Mmm

More food from the Lodge :)

The carrot cake cupcake from there is yummy

I will PM you later with some December ideas but I am thinking I should set up a traditional English tea for all the ladies at GF :)

I have lurked for awhile in your threads and I am really enjoying your family one. WL is my dream place to stay someday and I love seeing all the on site resturants.

My DD have been having tea at the GF annually since she was 3 years old. I have to dig up the pictures of her on our first trip there...
But we love it and she requests it every time we're in WDW. We are heading back this August and of course we have tea booked! Your review has made me want to try the scones and I am happy that it is possible to substitute the sandwiches if you don't like one. Thank you!
(Going to look for that picture, now...)

I had it but I don't remember it tasting bad. It was my least favorite but it wasn't overpowering fishy smell, haha.

We tried one of those S'mores cupcakes last September, but thought it was just OK. So I am not sure if you were missing anything.

Some of you may have noticed that the Live Thread was closed tonight. I have sent a PM to a couple of the moderators to inquire as to why it was closed but I suspect that since the thread just reached 250 pages long that that might be the maximum length for a thread here on the DIS. If so, I guess I will be forced to start a new thread, which is ok except at this point the thread is locked so I can't even transfer anything over (like the Table of Contents pages) or do any edits to the existing posts (like the April/May Game totals). UGH! :scared:

So anyway, please stay tuned while I figure out what's going on. :confused3
