Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest.

Everything else we had there was excellent, but the bread was mushy and tasteless and just not . . . French.

    There, I feel better.

wow, that's a bummer...ours was wonderful. Fresh, crispy on the outside and hot & chewy on the inside - just like classic French. We were there for a fairly early seating so maybe we did get it fresh out of the oven:confused3 Actually, now that I think about it, we had very good bread there in January, too.

We have always had great bread (rolls) at Chefs.:thumbsup2 Several times we were served extra cold butter that made it hard to spread...but have always had nice fresh bread there. We did not like the bread and spreads at Jiko, nor are we fond of the soda bread at Raglan.

How do you know it was not French? Have you been to France to try all the breads? There are seriously hundreds of different types of breads here in Italy. They all have different texture, shapes, and uses. Each part of my city has a special bread they are known for, so maybe it is the same way for France? :confused3

Isn't that funny. Ours was so good that we asked for more. But ... our taste buds are all hardwired differently, aren't they?
