First off, I have to say, I really LOVE the new feature of the new DIS that you can type here in this field without the paranoia of having it all disappear with a doofus keystroke move. I make a lot of those and have had far too many 1,000 wordcount posts go up in smoke in a nanosecond. That it saves a draft is beyond uber cool.
Now onto the pressing business at hand. I share this here because, I know you all can appreciate the ups and downs of life, and we all need a place to vent. That and I really don't have the liberty to share the following on FB for the obvious reasons. There is a tiny bit of anonymity here where the involveds eyes don't go. My heart is pretty sad right now.
Our oldest son has been going to WKU (go Hilltoppers) where he was about 3/5 of the way through his Mechanical Engineering program. I got a phone call today from him telling us he has dropped out because he lost his Army ROTC scholarship and can't afford the out-of-state tuition to continue on. The reasons he lost the scholarship are probably multiple, and right now isn't the time to speculate and come down hard on him. It is a TOUGH program; I get that. And he tried very hard, but it just wasn't enough.
Being that he had to drop out, he has also lost (and this is the worst part) his opportunity to commission as an officer. Apparently, the ball is rolling for him to go directly to Active Duty (do not pass "GO" and do not collect $200) going directly to boot camp as soon as they are able to ship him out. I asked about how high the possibility is of him having to be deployed overseas and he thinks low because they take Volunteers first. I have no idea, but right now, I'm a pretty nervous mom.
He assures me his BFP (Big Fat Plan for those of you who are new, I shamelessly stole that from
@eandesmom -thanks, Cynthia!) is to work until he goes to Boot Camp and start to get residency in Kentucky. He has no doubt he'll finish the degree ASAP and will even try to take classes while on Active Duty while using the GI Bill. He also wants to do the "Green to Gold" Program and go to Officer's Training. So there is that option as well.
Anyway, sorry to unload here. Just wanted to vent a little.

I know it will all work out for the best and he's young, but to see something end that he worked so hard for is hard. I wish he would have called us a LONG time ago and had at least asked us to help pay or help him process the options. I would have gladly given up a 100 trips to Disney to see him be able to finish. My dad (he is now living in my folks' house with them until he can get his feet back on the ground) says he thinks he was just simply burned out. They offered to help him pay as well. But he refused saying he didn't want to burden them like that.
On a happier note, and I know most of you saw this on FB, I passed this term's math test yesterday on the first attempt. We get 3 tries to pass it with a 100%. If you don't you are automatically out of the program, so no pressure or anything.

We also got our Rotation assignments for the term, and I am SO excited to have gotten 3 weeks in the Labor and Delivery and Mother and Baby Units at our local hospital. I also have several night shifts at another local hospital in a general Med-Surg floor. That'll be awesome!
I'm not considering this an "update". I want to save those for happy news, and Disney related. I should have another one of those up before I start back on the 30th.
