The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

Hi Liesa, just wanted to let you know I'm still reading along and enjoying it tremendously, just don't have time to comment very much. But will try to do better! Good luck for Tuesday!

Hi there!! It has indeed been awhile since I've seen you here, but know how busy you are.

Wish I had more exciting news to share, and hope to soon.... First, I have to get Tuesday's exam out of the way.

Good luck for Tuesday from me!! Seems like you are already more than halfway through the current term?

Will the final be about everything you learned this term??? :earseek: (I had never noticed this smiley before, but now it is there and so funny that I had to incorporate ti somehow...;)) I hope not! Seems like you really need to memorize a lot of stuff!

Two weeks ago I had to visit the emergency room because I had an asthma attack and had two lovely nurses there. They made me think of you. :goodvibes I was shocked at how unreasonable some of the other patients were there... And I admired the nurses' patience. I tried to make up for it by being super nice myself. I think they appreciated it. :thumbsup2

Actually, yes, the Final is cumulative; we have to be prepared to be tested on EVERYTHING we've learned in the term. But that is OK, because our state boards (the NCLEX) is cumulative of EVERYTHING we'll have learned in 2 YEARS! So we will be well prepared to meet that challenge.

This test is covering anti-infectives (antibiotics, anti-fungals, antivirals, etc...), Arthritises, Fratures and stabilization including traction, Acquired congenital musculoskeletal deformities such as club feet, scoliosis, and urinary tract issues like kidney stones, Nephrotic Syndrome and Benign Protatic Hyperplasia. It's a lot. :(

Funny you should mention asthma; that was last test. We learned about the various medications used to both manage it long term and what it used for an acute attack. Yes, patients can be unreasonable for so many reasons- personality, stress of illness and anxiety. And we are having to learn to be professional and "nice" in all of those situations. Every single term we have at least one class on "therapeutic communication"' it's a HUGE part of our curriculum. And yes, we definitely appreciate ANY patient who stays reasonable and level-headed. :)

K is for Keep on Keepin' On...

Another week has come and gone. And until yesterday, I thought it was going to be another ho-hum, boring update spewing on and on with drivel about which new medical conditions they are throwing at us to learn 4,834 medications for, along with signs and symptoms, nursing interventions, diagnostic tests, potential complications, and lifespan considerations.

(Just in case you care, I listed them in the last post in response to Magdalene. I won't write them out again, because I come close to an MI and get angina every time I see it.)

In other news, I tweaked my neck while turning a pretty big lady and resemble a spinal fusion patient. If you can relate, I am now giving you an arthritic-looking, old ladyish high five. Slowly please. Ouch! Be careful!!!

And in keeping with the modus operandi of both school and trip planning.... (that would be “slow” in case you were confused) I present to you the once a month news worth sharing:

I HAVE NOW PURCHASED TICKET #3!!!

You know what they say... slow and steady wins the race. Except this feels more like tying weights to my legs and trying to walk from one end of the pool to the other. Without coming up for air. I want to plan park days. And DTD days. And snack schedules. Sigh... one ticket at a time.

I'm still trying to figure out stealthy ways to finance this trip. This summer, Ebay will begging for mercy. I have attics full of crap, and not to clog my thread with cliches, but well, you know what they say... One man's trash is another man's treasure. Except women tend to be the ones to buy crap. Ladies, don't you dare deny it. I also have a cookbook that is almost done that I am writing for my daughters. A lot of people have told me to print a bunch and sell them. Maybe. It's an idea. We'll see.

But here's some breaking news: Brace yourselves.

I will be eligible after this year, June 10th to be exact, to take the LP NCLEX, which will make me able to work at that level of nursing. I am fairly certain that the company my daughter (MKBekka) works for as an LPN will hire me for a few nights a week as a temporary employee. I could make enough to cover a term or two of school, and well, what I would have used to put towards school could then go towards the trip. Fuzzy Disney math in action, right there. Odd how it spills over and becomes Fuzzy Family Finances.

Well, that's about it. Tuesday's exam #3 looms. I think I know the material, but it really comes down to being able to apply that information to Case Studies, and being able to choose the BEST answer out of several RIGHT answers. I will post again on Tuesday, and reply as I'm able, to let you all know how I did. Every other Tuesday and the few days before are extremely stressful, and it's so nice to be able to come here and unwind a bit. Thanks for your support and listening ears!

Catching back up after the board upgrades. Congrats on buying tickets! I bought mine for my October trip with money I won in a Super Bowl squares contest and selling some crap on Craigslist. I wanted to lock in before the price went up.

You'll do great on your test this week. I love fuzzy Disney math! Hopefully the LPN test/job comes through!

I keep trying a couple lottery tickets every now and then, and so far I've only spend the amount it would have been to buy a dinner at The California Grill. I'm done with that noise. But yeah, loads of junk to clear out. I've actually made a few hundred on that already.

Thanks for the encouragement! I need it!

Yes, I know you are afraid that people will only like, not responded. But I am at breakfast, not a lot if time and just wanted to leave a little like before I write a real reply later today. :goodvibes

So, would you be able to work this summer between semesters? I'm not so sure you will want to work once you are back in school, although an occasional day here and there wouldn't be bad. I actually went through a program like that where the LPNs continued through the summer and the rest of us started back in the fall. I would say it certainly can't hurt to get that certificate. Good for you!

Attics of junk sounds like my idea of heaven. :littleangel: We have a booth at an antique mostly so I have an excuse to keep going to auctions and buying stuff. :upsidedow

The LPN definitely sounds like a good way to earn some extra trip $$. And maybe it's because fuzzy Disney math is my forte but it doesn't seem so fuzzy to me. I'm sure you've applied som of that Disney logic to the number of hours you have in the day to give to work and school. ;)

Hang in there Liesa! You'll get there...both WDW and your nursing degree. And not necessarily in that order.

Yay! on buying ticket #3.
Since you’ll be traveling with a group of people to Disney World, you may have to use your “therapeutic communication” skills at some point during your trip. See that, nursing school and Disney trip, it all ties in together.
Good luck on test #3.

Well compared to you I don't dare to complain...

We put everything we win from scratch lottery tickets (don't know if that's the right term) aside for our next trip to DLP. Fortunately, I don't know how much we spent already, but from what we have put aside we couldn't even buy a nice sit down dinner in DLP… I guess we will have to find other funds or by happy to go there for our 50th wedding aniversary.

Good luck with the yes tomorrow!!!

Slowly catching up Liesa (we were gone for the weekend). I'm sorry about your neck...hope it is feeling better by now.

Yay for another Disney ticket. And yay for maybe being employed where your daughter is and you can do all that Fuzzy Disney math.

You're so sweet! I wondered if you were just getting up and moving when you posted. I was about to go to bed, and then couldn't sleep. I think I have test anxiety the couple of nights before every exam.

Looking forward to your thoughts. :)

Yup! I'm excited to see what design I get this time! I'll post a picture when I get them. I was hoping to buy all 4 before the price hike hit, but it's a slow slog in this...

I hope so too. I know I'll need rest, but I also need the cash to keep on keepin' at it.

I think so. From what I hear, the turnaround time is about 2 weeks from when the college gets the paperwork into the Nursing Board to get permission to take the NCLEX. Then I can legally work. It would definitely only be a part-time/temp job just until school started back up in late Sept. So, about 10 weeks of work. NO, I think with the current fail out rate, it'll most def. be a good thing to have the certificate/license, so I can work while I do a bridge program if necessary.

... I have a deal for you... ;)

There are quite a few nice antiques hidden away, and I hope to get some good cashola for that stuff!

And well, yeah, I'm trying my best to maximize every hour I have right now. And sadly, still come up short. :( It'll all work out, but I'm happy to put a little of the stress behind me. I know a job will be stressful too, but at least I can mostly leave work at work then.

Hang in there Liesa! You'll get there...both WDW and your nursing degree. And not necessarily in that order.

Thanks, Glenn! I do appreciate your confidence in me. :goodvibes And unless a huge pile of free money rains down from Heaven before Sept., it's going to be in exactly the opposite order. (I hear Pennsylvania is a little piece of Heaven.)

You have an excellent point, my dear! Patience will be necessary, I'm sure, especially when we all want different things. And yes, nursing school TOTALLY ties into EVERY single well-thought-out piece of this trip!!

So, what have you been keeping busy with?? May I ask how you and hubby are doing and what is new in your life?? You can PM me if you'd like, or post here... :goodvibes

Yes, I saw your trip to Dubuque! I hope you had a fabulous time enjoying family and fun. It's slowly getting better, and I'll certainly be more careful at Clinicals on Thursday and Friday.

:dancer: <<< That's the ticket-buying-happy-dance!

It's an option; first I have to pass the rest of this year, and then a National Boards Exam. Baby steps...
Good luck on that test... YAY :jumping1:for ticket #3 and I hope your neck feels better.

Thanks, Pat! I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes.

See above. Oh heck, why not again?? :dancer:

Neck is healing.... just need to remember I'm not 25 anymore.
