FYI I just found out that Target will no longer accept RX rewards for additional 5% off of Disney gift cards.

The Redcard 5% discount still stands, but the Rx Reward won't process an additional discount at checkout. It's systematic, not discretionary, so don't bother to save up your Rx rewards anymore if you are planning a Disney Gift Card purchase.

I believe it is already in place as of today.

it's not just Disney cards, but also starbucks or other 3rd party gift or entertainment cards.

This stinks! Wish I had some warning so I could stock up...

If this is true, that is a real bummer. Glad I bought about $750 the other day, but I needed another $500 worth.

Wow. I have a Rx card that expires today, so I literally went yesterday afternoon to purchase $3200 in Disney cards for an upcoming final payment. I was able to stack yesterday ---- talk about cutting it close!!! :scared: Because I had my little one with me, and people could have easily seen as I was checking out (the cashier was turning people away because the sheer number to scanned scared her I think), the cashier offered to get the security guy to walk me to my car. Of course to be extra safe I didn't refuse that.

When I texted hubby the receipt, he replied to ask if my ID was checked when making the purchase with my Target RedCard debit card. Nope.

Subtotal = $3200
RxRewards - $160
RedCard Savings - $152
No Tax
Total $2888.00

Most I have ever spent at Target in one trip. My yearly REDcard savings total at the bottom just skyrocketed ;)

Did this change just today? Because apparently it was still working yesterday.

Whoa! I've obviously missed something here.. You can get 5% off a Disney Gift card by buying it with your Target Red card?? (running out the door to Target.....)

YES! And then use those gift cards to pay for cruises, WDW, Disney Store purchases, etc. :thumbsup2

AWESOME!!! I hope our Target has Disney Gift cards...never really noticed before. Nor did I think you could get the 5% discount on gift cards. Wow.. I'm excited! (easily amused!) Thanks so much!

I think they all have them. I also see that they have a $50 one online. I haven't done it yet, but I can't imagine there's any reason you can't buy one and get the 5% discount and free shipping through the web site, too. Has anyone tried that?

Too bad about the Rx rewards ending!

I think it works on most of the cards they sell too... Wendys, Chick-fil-a, etc. I think it just doesn't work on Target gift cards.

May be off topic, but did you all know you could attach your Target card to your kids school and then the school gets a donation based on your spending? I assume it works with gift card purchases too.

I have bought some online in the past, however there was a limit of 10 per transaction when I did it. from what I recall $25 and $50 are the denominations available in the stores, nothing higher if you are looking to spend lots.

The 5% off when using your Target Red Card (either debit or credit) only applies to those cards that are deemed "entertainment" cards. Not any cards that are "gift" cards.

Now, having said that, the Disney card is labeled "gift card", but is considered (at least for Target purposes) an "entertainment" card. As are AMC movie cards.

I think the item description codes above the gift cards say "entertainment card" for lots of the ones they carry. I know we've gotten 5% off on iTunes, Wendy's and Chick-fil-a. Those are the only ones I've tried. We buy most gift cards at the grocery store where we get 5% back on AMEX.

If someone want to still try this have the manager call the Red Card support team. They will likely allow the override. I have good luck with them so far.

Oh sure after I book the 11 night Norwegian Fjords/Iceland cruise yesterday with DCL! :rotfl2: I don't get that many Rx.s at Target but when I earn the certificate I stock up on the Disney cards like many of you.

Thanks for the heads up and would love to hear more reports, especially recent reports.

Oh no! I hope this is an April Fool's joke.... Today is not 01Apr2014? Double oh no! I still have excursions I need to pay for

I'm saving my pennies and buy one $50 each month until our next cruise -- a little under two years away. So that'll work fine for me. And every saved penny counts!

I was going to ask about this because I bought $700 yesterday and noticed on my receipt that the RX didn't apply to the Disney cards.

I went back in and talked to Customer service. They knew nothing of the change, the RX card didn't have anything on it for exceptions and they couldn't get on outside websites to check. They honored it yesterday for me. We talked about how we couldn't figure it out because the exceptions usually go hand in hand with the redcard and RX savings...

Really think they should have sent out an email to pharmacy reward customers letting us know of upcoming changes. After the breech, the savings on the cards was one of the things that kept me shopping there... Will have to see if the redcard 5% compares now to any other discounts or if a Disney savings account is better...

Other threads about this have said that if the management know about the change there is nothing they can do. The recent post got the override bc the management didn't know.
