What I would like to know about the following places is proximity (how far a walk if walking is possible), cleanliness (granted it is basically to sleep and shower), any vital info I should know about said places:

Anaheim Maingate Inn
Abby's Anaheimer Inn
Alamo Inn and Suites

I attempted the Alamo about 3 years ago. It was cheap for a short night for us-NOT- the first room theynsent us to they couldn't get the door open. The second room had one bedbug on the center console between the beds....then about 6 more on the bathroom floor. I informed management, no other rooms avail. Took the bugs to him in a bottle- he didn't want them! I left and checked into my regular hotel (Anaheim plaza hotel). Never got return call from management for refund...so I believe I lost $70 that night....I haven't had the nerve to attempt them since then....not sure if you want to cross that one off your list or not...good luck. And have fun!

Abby's and Alamo are not a far walk in my opinion

Wondering which "maingate" inn you're looking at; there's several with that in their name.

Looking at a map, they're all a bit long for walking. I mean, you can do them, but you're not going to want to at the end of the day.

Abby's and Alamo have questionable reviews on TripAdvisor.

Have you checked all the ones along Harbor, across from the entrance? I got Desert Inn for $99 a night, and it's right at the crosswalk.

I think the Ramada main gate was another one listed and coulda sworn that was the name of the first one maybe I was wrong?

I'm looking to not want to spend over $400 which I know isn't much of a budget but if any know of something in that ball park for 5 nights oct 30 - nov 4 or any promos going on that would also be greatly appreciated as I'm not familiar with any of the nearby hotels as last time we went we were lucky enough to stay on property. Stayed the first night we arrived last year at the tropicana inn but unfortunately it might not work into the budget this time.

I stayed at the motel 6 maingate at 100 W Disney Way just last week. had no issues there. We used the shuttle, except for the last night when grandma was willing to babysit at bedtime, Hubby and I just missed the shuttle so we took a jog to the parks lol it wasn't a bad walk at all, although I probably wouldn't want my toddlers to take that stroll. Our total for a 4 night stay was 495 after military discount. it was originally 552. Just keep checking around. I googled Disneyland and checked every hotel across the street that I saw on google maps, I went to each individual site to get rates because some hotels are not listed in trivago, tripadvisor, etc. I spent months planning our vacation haha but that was my own excitement as it was our first family trip.

Tropicana is currently running a promotion if you stay 5 nights or longer you save $20/night. Our 5 night stay the end of August is running us $579.15 including all taxes and fees. It came out to about $32 more than 4 nights which made the decision to add on the 5th night there easy. We're going in August so October rates might be different. It took me a while to figure out that the discounted 5 night rate only showed up if you clicked on the link that was the add for the multi-night savings. HTH

The Day's Inn at the corner of Disneyland Drive and Ball Road might be a place for you to consider. Prices including tax for your time period are:

$392.85 - king bed (max 2 people)
$442.55 - two queens (max 4 people)

This is a "pay in advance, no cancellation" rate, so you couldn't change your mind once you book. You can take advantage of the tram from the Disneyland parking structure to cut down on the walk to/from the parks.

The Motel 6 recommended by Sylv09 would also be an excellent choice (probably a better choice than the Days Inn).

EDIT: the Motel 6 website gives a rate including tax of $421.14 for two people.

I've stayed at the Quality Inn and Suites twice. The rooms are smallish, but when all you're doing is sleeping there anyway....and it's a five minute walk to the park.

Staff was always helpful. The last trip out there, I was closing on a house, and they let me fax 200 pages back and forth without any complaints.

I've stayed at the Ramada Maingate and it is decent. they have also recently added a HOT breakfast that is included with rooms now that their new tower is open (or is about to open, not sure if it opened yet). They've remodeled all the other rooms. I'd say it is one of the 5 closest hotels for walking, plus they have a market on site and Tony Roma's restaurant is right there (pretty good food and way cheaper than inside DL)

I agree that both the Quality Inn and Grand Legacy (formerly Ramada Maingate) are decent hotels (I've stayed at both hotels numerous times in the past), but the stated budget of around $400 for five days rule them out.

For us they have tended to go up, especially weekends. I think the problem is they all get near full even during the slowest times. We've learned to reserve rooms about 2 months in advance.

i've stayed at the anaheim maingate inn. the room was ok- it was clean, but not entirely functional (there were outlets that we couldn't get to work, lights that wouldn't turn on, etc). parking is very tight and it's on a busy street, so we heard traffic all night long (but i grew up in the country, so i can never get accustomed to "city sounds"). we didn't take advantage of the free breakfast, so i can't offer any insights on that. the best thing is that it's right behind the parking structure and you can walk right over to the tram.

There don't appear to be many, if any, motels near Disneyland that cost less than this motel, but as the saying goes: "you get what you pay for". I think it would be a reasonable gamble to stay at this motel.

Disneyxica20, have you stayed at this motel recently? I'm curious about the path you took to the parking structure. On the way to the park, were you allowed to take a shortcut through the Disney employee parking lot, or were you forced to take the circular route over to Disneyland Drive, south, then double back west? And, when you returned to the motel, could you take the shortcut through the parking lot?

it's been almost a year since we've stayed there and yes, we crossed through the employee parking lot when we were coming and going. we didn't spend time in the parks during that visit (we were just there for the tink half marathon), so i'm not sure if it would have been any different if we were coming/going at night, but we were never told that there were any restrictions after a certain hour.
we've only stayed there once, but we have looked into staying there other times. we're just procrastinators and it's always booked when we try to make a reservation, haha.

I haven't stayed at the Days Inn for around 8 years, so there are probably other posters here who can better comment about the current quality of the hotel.

In terms of getting to and from the parks, check out Mary Jo's excellent aerial photos in the following thread:

As shown on the photos/maps, the two basic options are:

(1) cross Disneyland Drive, head south, then double back west and take a tram from the parking structure

(2) walk all the way to the park via a path on the northern boundary of downtown Disney

A third option (probably the best option), mentioned by Disneyxica20 within this thread, is to head west on Katella for one (quite short) block, then head south through the Disneyland employee parking lot, and make your way to the tram via the parking structure. The potential problem with this option is that it is unclear whether the guard at the gate will allow people to walk through the parking lot. My understanding (based upon Disneyxica20's comment earlier in this thread) is that there is currently no problem with hotel guests taking the shortcut through the parking lot.

Thanks for the link to the other thread, doesn't look like too bad of a walk to the gates, might think of another quicker option for the end of the day but heading to the parks should be no hassle.
