Stroller for 50 lbs +

I can't believe I am actually asking a stroller question!

Last trip our kids were younger and strollers were a no brain-er THIS time I am traveling with a 6 year old and an estimated weight of 50 lbs. I don't want to rent from Disney/Magic or OS but I'm willing to purchase one (inexpensive of course) b/c I can use it for my youngest when he gets to be 50 lbs. My current stroller (for youngest DS) only goes up to 40 lbs.

What non-rented stroller do you use for your older kids (5 +, 50 lbs +)?

Maclaren Volo. We bought one for our dd years ago when she was 5 and she used it up until 7. It holds up to 55 pounds (more actually as we always had stuff hanging on it) and pushes like there is no one in it! It is a great stroller for older kids. It has no recline, but at that age I doubt you need it. My dd fell asleep in it a couple of late eveinings. It was nice to have the stroller to push her in to the busses
I got mine from albeebaby.com (a previous yr model for a cheaper price)
Maybe you could find one on Craigslist or ebay

We just ordered a Maclaren Techno XLR mainly because I'm tall and it has extendable handles but in researching just about every stroller on the market, I also found that the XLR has the highest weight limit at 65lbs. I'm pretty sure all of the other Maclaren models are rated to 55lbs, but we needed the XLR because its big & tall friendly. They are pricey but well made which is what you want at 50lbs+.

Maclaran strollers are the best! Try Ebay you can get really good deals on new Maclarean strollers. I bought one last year for less than $100 with shipping included.

Plus most of them have te rain shield that comes with them

I got a Maclaren Quest on Amazon for around 100..I think its up to 55lbs too.

You might want a jogging stroller if you are going over 55 lbs, the BOB ones go up to 70lbs and does fold down pretty easily but some of the other ones are harder to fold and travel with.

Another bad thing is these can get very pricey too Now I have the City Mini and love it, it goes to 50 lbs but we love the sun shade on it and the fact that all you do is pull up on a strap in the seat and it folds down. Very easy to use and transport around and it is not that heavy either.

Another vote for Macs as well!

I will say we find the Mac Triumph and Volo are squishy for tall/long kids like mine. Despite the fact that they are way under the weight limits, they are long torsoed, so we couldn't really use them past 2.5 years old.

We have a Mac Techno XLR, and love it, as it's very roomy!!

I had the Mac Volo and thought it was horrible to push once dd neared 50lbs. It did not handle well with the weight at all & was very very tippy. I bought a baby jogger City classic (now it is called the city elite). Weight limit is 75 lbs and you can literally push it with one finger with a 60 lb kid in it. Cannot say enough goood things about this stroller.

I just picked up an Aprica for my 7 y.o. with minor special needs. I'm still trying to figure out folding it easily, but it pushes like a dream. We had a Maclaren Quest before, and I can tell the weight limit is 20 lbs more with the Aprica.

We had a Mac Volo for each of ours when they were younger. Last time it was used was November 2009 when dd was 5. She was over 55 lbs. but it still pushed fine. She went with my oldest dd for her 7th birthday this past December and she walked the 9 days - my oldest dd refused to take a stroller for her and I told her to be prepared to rent one but she made it fine. For a kid that size, I think I would suggest renting one of the park doubles, especially since you said you have another child - that way you would only have to push one stroller.

After doing the research this was what I had planned to buy when we were moving to Orlando. Then DH found a teaching job here and moved back home so it didn't happen.

The trip we are doing this weekend, my son is 7yo and 45 pounds. His tiny little rearend still fits in the Baby Planet (up to 50 pounds) and he isn't too tall for the sunshade, so we are going to take it and see how much he needs it, but I still vote for the BJCE if if you need to buy something.

We took a Combi Strollee in December it goes to 55pds. Our 18 month old and 6 year old took turns riding in it. It was 65.00.
