Finally!
http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...-to-walt-disney-world-and-disneyland-resorts/

Ambitious plans to bring Star Wars to life in the two parks include creating Disney’s largest single-themed land expansions ever at 14-acres each, transporting guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.
.
.
These authentic lands will have two signature attractions, including the ability to take the controls of one of the most recognizable ships in the galaxy, the Millennium Falcon, on a customized secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle.

I'm embarrassed by how sad I am at the thought of loosing Toontown, I wish they had stated exactly where they are going to take their 14 acres from. Where to release the kids with all that pent up energy now? But, DL is ever changing and all that so chin up!

Edit to add: just in case I'm creating confusion as the 2nd post, Disney has now said on Twitter they are NOT taking out Toontown for Star Wars

I'm sad about losing Toontown too (and probably the whole Ranch/Festival Arena area) -- because I remember how exciting it was when TT opened, and I actually love the Car Toon Spin ride. But I am glad to finally get official confirmation that a Star Wars land is coming, just to put the speculating to an end! I just wanted to know what was happening once and for all!

I'm sad about loosing the space for young kids. Maybe they will have a play area in the new star wars land so kids can burn of energy like they do at Goofy's house in Toontown.

I love Minnie's house in Toon Town and hope it is still there in December and Christmas decorated, too.

I may be one of the lone folks on here to say this but I am not a Star Wars or Marvel person. To me Marvel especially is action and comics, shoot 'em up type stuff that is not as well...kid friendly and distinctively Disney. I'd much rather the extra space be used for more classic type rides, bring back Country Bear somehow and some of the money for our People Mover. I know that is just me and maybe sometime down the road Disney will. :)

I love Toon Town. DGD has not been there yet, but she will love it....many years before she will (if ever) be interested in Star Wars.
I frankly, I have no interest in it at all. :(

If I were governing Disney's use of their recently acquired Star Wars and Marvel franchises, I would tell them to create a third gate/park and put them there. However, there was no way Disney was going to wait the 10 years (or whatever it would take to build a whole new park) to do something with SW and Marvel, so their only choice is to shoehorn them into the existing parks, which will mean that other things will end up on the chopping block.

I am not really a Marvel fan, but the late 1970s/early 1980s version of me was a huge Star Wars fan. I don't really care for the movie Cars, but Cars Land surpassed my expectations. I love the land, but don't love the movie! :lmao: I think that Disney will do a great job with the new Star Wars land (although let's hope they don't actually call it "Star Wars Land"), and it will be exciting to explore all new territory. I cross my fingers in hopes that they will be able to hang on to Car Toon Spin somehow.

I just wonder if Star Tours will stay in Tomorrowland. It seems odd to keep it there and then have a whole separate Star Wars Land somewhere else in the park.

When do you think they will announce when they will start work on it? How long would it take? How long did Cars Land Take?

I'm super excited for this! Toontown is cute but I'd through it overboard in an instant to get a Star Wars land!!!! We don't even go back to Toontown every trip. When our boys were young it was amusing for them but even then they would have preferred a Star Wars land.

I was thinking it could be rethemed to the ride being built in HKDL, which I understand is essentially an Iron Man themed version of Star Tours.

As for Toontown, small kids enjoyed DL for decades before it was built and will continue to enjoy the park if it goes away. If necessary a new kids area could be created as part of the new Star Wars area, or an entirely new one could be carved out elsewhere in the park.

Toontown is a great land for those who really love Disney's details and hidden gems, but kids wouldn't be paying much attention to the intricate details and hidden gems. They would just be looking at the 'fun' aspect of it, and then they will outgrow it when they're older.

It was thrilling when Toontown opened -- my friends and I excitedly ran through the tunnel to see what awaited us on the other side -- because it was really the first land that opened when we were old enough to appreciate it (we were too young to appreciate Bear Country's arrival in 1972). I got that same sense of excitement when rushing into Cars Land and Buena Vista Street, and I'm sure I will be excitedly rushing into Star Wars Land.

I'm not so into Marvel or Star Wars, although I'm sure they could make awesome lands about them. I am just glad my kids will get to experience Toontown once, on their first visit in October, they might appreciate Star Wars and Marvel things more than a cute little land when they're older on our next visit.

Oops, I meant "throw" not through! :)
Yes, I do remember the fun of finding the details in Toontown when it opened. I'm just even more excited about Star Wars. I still have my original action figures and trading cards from the 70s!

I didn't read this yet, but here is an official Disney press release about it - http://disneylandnews.com/2015/08/1...-to-walt-disney-world-and-disneyland-resorts/

It probably says everything that the Parks Blog said, but every now and then, if you read closely, you will find out little extra bits of info in the press releases that were not included in the Blogs. It could be a subtle detail, but there could be something.

Looking forward to this. I also hope the company I work for gets a chance to bid on the electrical construction.

Well, I lovee both Stars Wars and Disneyland, so I am super-excited that they will expand it. The middle photo the OP put up would be jaw-dropping if they get anything close to that. I think seeing what they do with Avatarland at WDW will give us a good idea of the scale we can expect.

This is exactly what DD13 and I were talking about. She doesn't care much about Star Wars, so I used this example for her. She really liked Carsland too. Plus, more rides! Theming!

I just wish it wasn't going to take them 5 years or so to build it.

I think they should just re-theme Tomorrow Land, and leave Toontown. Toontown is cute, and great for little kids...
I really have no interest in Star Wars, I did when I was 10! Live on Hans Solo!!
