So.....long time, no see! I've been away from the disboards for awhile now and I've been pondering doing a trip report for....oh, about 5 months now. But life, being what it is, got away from me so I'm just now getting around to it. So let's get to our cast and more about our trip! :welcome:

There's me...I'm Dawn. I'm the mom, wife, planner, packer, navigator, and budgeter. I'm a judicial assistant and part-time Disney vacation planner, and obviously I love Disney. :earboy2:

There's Ray, my husband and Seth's daddy. He loves Star Wars and computers and drones and fishing. He's quiet and shy until you get to know him, then you realize he's also smart and witty and funny. He's the best daddy ever and Seth's hero. :darth:

Then there's Seth! Seth had just turned 5 about 3 weeks before this trip and he started Pre-K this year and loves it. He loves pretty much all Disney movies and shows, his favorites being Toy Story, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (still), Jake & the Neverland Pirates, Miles from Tomorrowland, Wall-E, Tangled and The Nightmare Before Christmas. He loves Legos, soccer, pizza and cherry coke. And he LOVES Halloween! Thus why we picked the dates we did! This was Seth's 3rd trip to Disney World. :mickeyjum

More info on our trip.....

When? September 26-October 3
Where? We stayed at Animal Kingdom Villas in Jambo House in a savanna view studio villa
Other info.....We went to MNSSHP, did the Pirates & Pals Fireworks Cruise and the Pirates League at MK, Seth participated in the Jedi Academy at HS, we had 6-day park hopper tickets and were on the standard Dining Plan. I'm not a huge DDP fan but the last time I went with my hubby, we didn't get it and all I heard was complaints about how expensive all the food was (I mean.....you HAVE been here before, yes??? :lmao:). So I swore I'd never go back with him without it!

Now, on to the trip! :cool1:

We had booked the room via purchasing DVC points back in November 2014, so we were more than ready when the morning finally came to hit the road to Orlando! Here's Seth pulling off the final day of our countdown!

Packed up and ready to go....Ray wasn't even in the car yet and Seth was set to go! :rolleyes1

We left around 9:00 on Saturday, September 26th, stopped to grab breakfast and we were on our way! I'm sure we stopped for lunch somewhere around Valdosta but I don't remember where. We saw this sign around 2:20 (we live in northeast Georgia, so it's about 500 miles from my driveway to those wonderful WDW gates).

Usually for some odd reason we are always crossing the state line at night, so we decided for once to stop at the Florida Welcome Center for some free OJ!

We passed under this wonderful sign around 5:15...... (click to play)

We're here! We're here!!!!!! :jumping1:

Not long after that we pulled up to AKL. I was SO excited to be here! :hyper: We’ve been wanting to stay at AKL for a long time and this was our first time here. And I was just beyond excited for Seth….he’d been to WDW before – once at 13 months old and once at 2.5 years old – but I felt like this was the first trip for him that he’d really remember and understand fully where we were and what was happening. I was about to burst….such a great feeling! :woohoo:

Ray pulled up under the huge front door area and Seth and I headed in to check in while he unloaded the luggage with bell services. We didn’t even make it in the front door when we were approached by a woman holding an iPad who said, “Blank party?” (Our last name is not Blank but of course I’m not going to post it here). I was like, “Yes?” She said, “You’re room number is **** (I can’t remember….doh!) and you’re all set. No need to go to the front desk!” Now, I have to admit it was pretty cool that that happened, but a little freaky that she knew we were literally walking up to the front doors! Those MagicBands are no joke! This was our first trip using them – last trip was May 2013 and that was a few months before the MagicBands came to be.

So Seth and I headed into that beautiful lobby. I had seen it before when we’d eaten at Boma, but Ray had never seen it and Seth doesn’t remember because he was 13 months old. So he was blown away and just kept saying, “Wow!” Again, butterflies in my stomach….best feeling ever! :goodvibes

We went back outside and found Ray, and he was just about finished with our luggage, so we waited and then headed to the room. We got a bit turned around at first but figured it out in no time. As I said, I don’t remember the room number (can’t believe I don’t have a picture of it) but we were on the 5th floor on Kudu Trail, probably about halfway down that long hallway. Our balcony faced the Arusha Savanna, which is just what I wanted!

First thing we did, of course, was head out onto the balcony and saw these guys! They are SO cool…..the zebras and the giraffes were my favorites from our stay there.

Ray got a video…..(click to play)

Some pics of our room before we destroyed it…..

So now all we had to do was unpack, change clothes and then we were planning on heading to MK for the evening! Just had to wait on bell services to deliver our luggage. So we relaxed and waited.

And waited.

And waited.

AND WAITED. :hourglass:hourglass:hourglass

It was ridiculous. We got into the room around 5:30 or so, and I think our luggage was delivered around 7:00. I wish they would have just let Ray push it up there himself!!!! We noticed that a light bulb was broken on one of the wall sconces near the bed and there was broken glass down into the fixture, and I called the front desk to tell them. And maintenance actually got there and fixed that before our luggage was delivered! :confused3

Seth entertained himself while we waited….he said he was gonna sleep here. :rotfl:

Okay, so FINALLY a change of clothes (proper unpacking would have to wait) and we were off. To MK we go!!!!! Seth was excited about his first Disney bus ride this trip…..

Next time….HOLY MK CROWDS, BATMAN! :crowded:

Joining in! I am looking at staying at AKL in October so I can't wait to read about your stay.

Hi Dawn! :wave2: The dis is where I "met" you and then you helped us plan our awesome trip last summer. Now I'm enjoying reading about your trip! DH and I have rented points from his DS and will stay at AKL (Kidani village) this summer--no kids this time! Looking forward to hearing all about your trip! It is so awesome to see everything through the eyes of a little one!

I can't wait to read all about your trip. Seth is so adorable.

Thanks so much for reading! And thanks! :)

Joining in....yah!

Glad you're here! :)

Thanks for reading! I will tell you (in case I forget later), the one and only complaint I had with AKL (besides the slow luggage delivery, but that can happen anywhere) is the location. I mean, obviously I knew going into it that that was a drawback. We did get sick of the bus rides at times and was glad to have our car when we wanted it. But honestly, that's a small complaint. The resort is WONDERFUL!!! I highly recommend it. :)

Hi there!!! So glad you're reading. And that's so awesome about your upcoming trip. How exciting!!! I think it will be awhile before we get back without Seth, but that sounds like heaven. I love my trips with him, of course, but going at a different pace would be nice. :)

Joining in too :) I can't believe how big Seth is now :goodvibes

Hi, Jo! Glad you made it over! :)

I can't wait to read more. Seth is to cute! Keep it coming.

Thanks! And thanks so much for reading! :)

First of all....

:shamrock::shamrock::shamrock:HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY:shamrock::shamrock::shamrock:

Hope you all wore green today, avoided any pinching and managed to avoid that pesky leprechaun!

Okay, now on the to the report!

When I last updated we were on our way to MK for a few hours for our first night. Yay! :hyper:

We arrived around 7:40ish and first thing we saw were the pumpkins....Seth was excited! I'm telling you, this kid LOVES Halloween. It is by far his favorite holiday!

We got into the park and headed for Main Street. No stroller rental tonight as we were only gonna be here a few hours. I had gotten a FP for Big Thunder but we had missed our time due to our late luggage delivery. But I got that one on purpose - I knew if we missed it, no big deal. We'd be back plenty of times to be able to ride. Our second FP for the evening was for MSEP. Now I'm not a huge fan of burning a FP for a parade. But it made sense for this night because I knew we'd be arriving pretty close to when the parade started. But guess what? By the time we got there, we were all starving. So we didn't really care about a parade....we wanted food! So we skipped that one too. There goes the plan!!! :rotfl2:

Here's a video of Seth seeing the Castle for the first time. I mean, he'd seen it before in his life, but this was the first time this trip. And the first time I think he will remember seeing it. :goodvibes (Click to play.)

Love his face! :cloud9:

We made our way through a VERY crowded Main Street and Hub....wowza! I knew it would be crowded - it was a Saturday with PM EMH - so no surprise. But seeing it with my own eyes was scary! :scared1:

I didn't even really look at the new Hub area that closely as we walked by....too many people! Of course they were all waiting for the 8:00 parade (it was like 7:45 by this point).

We were heading for Columbia Harbor House. We got there, Ray glanced at the menu and told me what he wanted, then he and Seth went to get a table while I stood in line to order. Even with the parade starting any minute, that place was PACKED. I was wearing my 9 3/4 t-shirt (Harry Potter fans will know) and this was when the first of FIVE CMs that night that commented on how they loved my shirt, which cracks me up b/c we're at Disney....Universal's competitor....and the people who work here were complementing my Harry Potter shirt. :ssst: Ray texted me to let me know where they were sitting and I finally ordered and got our food, then went up the stairs to find them.

As I looked down at our tray of food, I realized I got enough to feed a family of 10. I had forgotten how much came with the Dining Plan! :earseek: The last time I was on the Dining Plan was like 2008 and I now remember....we need to share things!

Food porn time!!!! Ray and I both got the fried shrimp plate with fries - he got slaw and I got broccoli (looks like they gave me slaw too but I didn't eat it because I hate mayo...I ordered broccoli instead....so even more unnecessary food!) - and Seth got the kids chicken tenders plate with fries. Ours also came with dessert and I got one of each thing they had - chocolate cake and some sort of apple tart thing. I think Seth's came with yogurt too but I don't see it in the picture.

So Ray and Seth did a good job picking out a table.....

Seth and I both LOVE Tangled (and I know my Disney card may be revoked but I think it's WAY better than the one with that frozen chick), so we loved this view!!!

After dinner we had an actual FP to use....yay! Our first. As I said, this was our first time experience the new system for ourselves. We headed towards our destination and got to go through the Tangled rest area. LOVE this....they did such a good job with it. I have seen it before in 2013 but this was the first time seeing it at night.

So I bet you can guess what our FP was for......the one ride I've been DYING to ride for like 2 years now!!!! Seven Dwarfs Mine Train! :jumping1:

We mistakenly took a left near Enchanted Tales with Belle so we went the LONG way around the ride....I had no idea the entrance was like 20 feet past where we turned left. Duh.

Me and Seth excited to ride the Mine Train!

Oh my gosh....LOVED IT!!!!! Nothing more to say. It was great! Pretty cool that this was Seth's first ride this trip. Here's our Photopass pics and video.

(Click to play.)

After that we headed to Gaston's Tavern because Ray was dying to try a LeFou's Brew.

I already have a Gaston mug at home so I wanted a Belle goblet this time. I like the drink okay. I think Butterbeer is WAY better. But Ray LOVED them. This may have replaced the Dole Whip Float as his favorite WDW snack. He got like 4 during the trip!

Seth and I decided to go ride the Little Mermaid while Ray took a potty break. The line was pretty much non-existent (everyone was getting ready to watch Wishes, but we were seeing it later in the week). As we were walking through the queue Seth told me he didn't want to ride something where you went underweater and couldn't breathe. :lmao: I told him that it was just pretend, and then asked him if he really thought I'd take him on a ride like that??? Silly boy.

Some pics from the ride.....

While we were on the ride Ray texted me and said the fireworks were starting. So we got to watch a good bit of the show from Fantasyland, which is actually pretty cool. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who hadn't seen it before....it's better in front of the Castle for newbies. But this view was neat too! I didn't take any pictures though.

We went into the big store near Dumbo and looked around. I got Seth an autograph book and he also picked out a really cool light-up Mickey pumpkin to trick-or-treat with. Then we decided to head for Dumbo. :dumbo:

Of course Seth had to play for a few minutes. There was no wait but we let him play for awhile.

Wish ever ride had a queue with a playground. Such a great idea!

Time to fly!

After that we hopped in line for the Barnstormer. There was a very short line. This is one of the very few things I didn't get to do in 2013 with Seth that was I really disappointed about. He was tall enough to ride then but the line was always super long (will never go in mid-late May again!) and then when I bit the bullet and stood in line, it broke down. So I was glad we got to ride it and he loved it....all 30 seconds of it! Oh and he got front row!

After that we decided to head out. It was almost 10:00 and we were beat. Here's Seth on the way out showing off his new pumpkin.

When we got back to the hotel we decided to go down to the Mara to get our refillable mugs and I got a little snack I had been anticipating since we booked at this hotel.....

Yep, still SO SO GOOD!!!!

So that's it, our first day! Next update.....SOMETIMES YOU JUST GOTTA STOP AND SMELL THE SHARPIE!

Note - no, you're not losing your mind; yes, I edited the title. I had thought of this "Sharpie" title waaaaay back and had just forgotten about it. And it's just too good not to use! It will make sense in my next update. But in the meantime, sorry for any confusion. Still the same TR you've been reading, just a new, shiny title!

I'm definitely here for this trip report! I'm so glad you decided to do one.

AKL is such a fun resort! We stayed there in 2013 and we loved it!

Its definitely one of my faves but I think I'm partial because my birthday is Oct 29th....almost a witch! :)

Good to see, as we have this on our plan, too. I thought I read they have seasonal cobblers for dessert. Was that what the apple thing was? Looks like plenty of food to share, as we'll be sharing 4 meals among 5 people, as my 2 yr old is too young for the plan, but eats way more than the 4.5 yr old!

So Ray and Seth did a good job picking out a table.....

Seth and I both LOVE Tangled (and I know my Disney card may be revoked but I think it's WAY better than the one with that frozen chick), so we loved this view!!!

Great view! I love Tangled, too. Probably my favorite of the newer movies.

Looks so fun! I can't wait to ride it. I have it planned for all 3 MK days (with FP) I think. But I think the latest is like a 6:30 ride. May need to switch things up for a nighttime ride...or ride during Wishes. I hope AJ loves it!

I am definitely going to try one. Mom wants to try the cinnamon roll!

Silly boy.

HAHA. But I experience the same kind of misunderstandings with AJ.

We have toyed with watching from in front of 7DMT or from the TTC Ferry dock (to get a jump on leaving) but then we'd miss the castle projection show...so I'm not sure.

We went into the big store near Dumbo and looked around. I got Seth an autograph book and he also picked out a really cool light-up Mickey pumpkin to trick-or-treat with.

I need to figure out what I want to do about an autograph book. I've seen a few I could purchase ahead of time but this one trip report I read, they made one on shutterfly and I have a free photo book code so I may try that.
Then we decided to head for Dumbo. :dumbo:
Of course Seth had to play for a few minutes. There was no wait but we let him play for awhile.

Wish ever ride had a queue with a playground. Such a great idea!

I know...that would be great for the kids, wouldn't it? On our arrival day, the wait for Dumbo is predicted to be 23 minutes but I'm sure the boys won't mind as they can just play!

Glad to hear it he loved it. I've pumped this one up to AJ because I think its a great starter coaster (even though we are doing 7DMT before it...lol).

Yummy on the zebra domes!! Great first evening!! Looking forward to more!

I'm in!!
Glad your drive down was so smooth!
UGH about the luggage taking ages, thats rough esp since it was literally dropped off as you walked in, weird that it took so long!
YAY MK IN FALL AND HALLOWEEEEEEEEEN! It's also my favorite holiday, and man does disney do it right!!
I have to agree with ya on that, Tangled beats frozen, thats for sure!
I also like butterbeer more than the brew...but i like butterbeer more than most things baahah!
Can't wait to read more!

oh this is great! following along....

Welcome, and thanks for reading! :)

I'm definitely here for this trip report! I'm so glad you decided to do one.

AKL is such a fun resort! We stayed there in 2013 and we loved it!

Isn't Mine Train at night such a fun ride? I'm so glad yall were able to finally ride it!

Thanks for joining in, Lauren! :)

We loved AKL - only complaint (other than the slow luggage delivery....haha) was the bus rides. We got a bit tired of those since they're a bit lengthy. But we had our car as an option so it wasn't too bad. And yes, Mine Train is awesome! We rode it twice at night this trip. :)

I'm here! Lord help me as I'm going in mid-June :sad1:

Welcome! Thanks for reading! :) I think as long as you KNOW it's gonna be hot and crowded, that's most of the battle. Just be mentally prepared, get to the parks early, take an afternoon break when it's most hot and you'll be okay!

Yes, it was an apple cobbler type thing, I believe. It was good but we were so full!

I love Tangled too. :) We rode Mine Train twice with FP. I had it 3 times but the third day we decided to switch it to BTMRR I believe. And then we rode it with almost no wait at the Halloween Party.

We have toyed with watching from in front of 7DMT or from the TTC Ferry dock (to get a jump on leaving) but then we'd miss the castle projection show...so I'm not sure.

My favorite place for actually watching the show is on the Tomorrowland bridge. It's cool to see from this angle as long as you watch it from in front of the castle too.

I need to figure out what I want to do about an autograph book. I've seen a few I could purchase ahead of time but this one trip report I read, they made one on shutterfly and I have a free photo book code so I may try that.

I just bought one there. Just figured it would be easier and if we lost it, that would stink but not the end of the world.

I know...that would be great for the kids, wouldn't it? On our arrival day, the wait for Dumbo is predicted to be 23 minutes but I'm sure the boys won't mind as they can just play!

Even with no wait Seth wants to play in there. It's great!

Glad to hear it he loved it. I've pumped this one up to AJ because I think its a great starter coaster (even though we are doing 7DMT before it...lol).

It would be even better if it lasted longer....quickest ride in the entire park!

I also like butterbeer more than the brew...but i like butterbeer more than most things baahah!
Can't wait to read more!

Hi, and thanks for reading! :)

Yeah, I love MK in the fall.....so pretty! We have attempted to make butterbeer at home several times, and we've done okay with it. But it's just not the same as the "real" thing at Universal!
