Soarin'(Original) May Take Flight May 27!

That's great news for lots of people who were hoping for some of the "spring or summer" 2016 things to open/reopen.

It would be fun to have a trip around June 17 if you could potentially see the old movie one day and the new one a day of two later!

The reason they may be bringing back original Soarin' is because reportedly they want the new Soarin' to debut first at Shanghai so there can't be any Soft Openings of the new film at Epcot.

I get it. That's why I was thinking maybe old film from May 27-June 16 and new film starting June 17. Someone with a trip over mid-June might get to catch both! Either way, it's not me

I believe the assumption for the soft opening would be that they'd open with the old film....at least in the threads I've seen it suggested in. That would circumvent the issue with the Shanghai exclusivity rights to the new film. There have been those that said that's unlikely because of the effort to sync up the ride but others have said that they are running the old film during the day out at Disneyland and then swapping over to test the new film at night so it may be possible.

Once programmed and stored, the "films" and "motion effects" can be changed with a few computer keystrokes.

I'm guessing that the fragrances will be different between the new and original films, so those fragrance source containers would need to be changed by hand.

If they did reopen with the old film, I wonder if it would be without the scents. I've ridden California Adventure's Soarin' a couple of times in the last few weeks and there have been no scents either time.

That sounds right and would solve the problem.

Yes,Memorial Day weekend is shaping up to be quite the fun time with DAK After Dark debuting and now with Old Soarin' likely taking a bow!

That would be great news for us. We will be there 5/24-5/29. Hoping to get nighttime events in at AK on 5/29. Now possibly switching our days around to be in Epcot on 5/28 for Soarin'. Hoping for soft openings of FEA as well.

I feel like my head is going to explode in planning this end of May trip with all the possible things that will be debuting Memorial Day weekend.

Me too! I will miss it, especially the music. I love that music, and they play it in the bathrooms at Epcot!

We are there 6/11-6/17. Planning on Epcot 6/13 and 6/17. That would be great to do it both days! Waiting helplessly for FP to open up and at least get one for 6/17. Dreamed about it all night after it didn't come live at midnight Eastern. By the time I got up I wasn't sure if I really had a FP or not! Sadly, no!

No need to wait at all.
Once programmed and stored, the "films" and "motion effects" can be changed with a few computer keystrokes.
And, the programming will have already been done for the Shanghai attraction.

That's not to say that they WON'T shut it down.
They might just WANT to...

Thrilled for all those who are thrilled with this news, don't get me wrong, but I'm feeling pretty 'meh' about this. Seen old Soarin' enough times that I was really looking forward to seeing the new one during my visit on June 13th & June 14th + it ticks me off that it has to premiere in Shanghai first, because those going to WDW and DL are not the same crowd who will be in Shanghai for the flippin' opening! (can you tell I am irritated? FEA better be happening in my dates! LOL!)... I'm also still upset with the ROL fiasco, so the fire is burning deep within me! This was supposed to be a trip to see new things, and zip! Nada! Zero! I should have saved my money... *grumbles*

No matter how much I loved that movie, I'll be snorin' on Soarin' if it's the old version!
