Any interesting stories about getting stuck on a ride while it broke down? Anyone ever get to see the rides with the lights on? What was it like?

I was always curious to see what HM would look like with the lights on.

I have been stuck on several rides before, but nothing really sticks out in my memory.

Years ago my cousin and I got stuck on Mr Toad's Wild Ride right in front of the judge. It got really hot because we were right under one of the lights. An employee came around and unlocked the safety bar to let us out.

I was also on BTMR when the train just stopped on the incline. Just click-click-click-stop. A relative was on that train too. He was a medical resident at UC Irvine the day they brought in the kid whose toes were amputated after they were wedged between the train and the platform. He was showing me how they modified the cars; they added a short barrier so that the foot wouldn't just pop out. He was a little bit more graphic about the description. We actually got off on the stairs right next to the incline. We rode the ride again in the evening after they'd fixed it.

On my last visit I got stuck on Tower of Terror right on the 13th floor. I asked around if this was normal (this was my first time), and some repeat riders said it was not. The strange thing was that we got a canned message with the same voice as for the safety instructions - that sort of eerie sinister voice - telling us that there was a malfunction in the ride and that we would receive further instructions. I tried calling my wife (we were taking turns while the kid slept) to tell her I was stuck, but she didn't answer. She later said she was about to ask what was happening. While we were there, there was chatter going on using technical terms, and we were up there for at least five minutes. By the time we were (slowly) brought back to the 1st floor, there were Disney ride mechanics in their standard ballcap and Dickees uniforms who were obviously working on the manual override. We were given the option to take the next ride immediately at another shaft, and I think all but two riders out of twenty wanted to ride again. After the ride stopped, all the lights were on. We got a good look at the details in the shaft, and it looks like they put a lot of attention into the details to make it look old and decrepit, even though most people would only see flashes of dim light.

Cool! I am so fascinated with all of the Disney magic, I would love to get a glimpse of certain rides with the lights on.

Years ago I rode SM with the lights on. It was actually my first time on SM. I was 15, I think so I don't remember everything surrounding why we got to ride it in the dark, but we got to get back on and ride it in the dark right after that.

Had the lights turn on and the ride shut down on Space Mountain.

Wife and Kids were 'rescued' from BTMRR and everyone had to walk through the ride but after CM's made everyone turn off cell phones and camera.

kids rescued from Indy with all of the lights on.

But my favorite was being 'rescued' from monorail on the way in at park opening. We were stranded for 30 minutes, but CM's gave us each : fast passes , $10 food vouchers; park hopper valued at $101 at the time. $555 total for 30 minutes....I'd do that any day.

Monsters inc. went down while we were on it. The lights came on and we had to walk off. I was bad and took pictures.

My first time on RSR our car broke down right in front of Sally and McQueen as we were about to choose a direction. Got to look all around the dark ride show room and got walked out through some of it. The good part, since it was only our car malfunctioning and not the whole ride, we got right back on and rode through. Got to experience
The dark ride portion twice on my first ride.

We got stuck in the room with the Hudson hornet. He was just sitting there.. Saying the same things over again until they turned him off. The people across from us were smack talking saying they were gonna win the race when the ride turned back on. We were the first people off the ride because we we're on a wish trip. As we got off the ride, I yelled "We beat you!"

Well, my story isn't about a ride, it was about what I saw years ago in Carnation Gardens. Where would I post that?? Lol. It's pretty weird.

I've got pictures of the time I got stuck on Big Thunder. Had my camera in a fanny pack and pulled it out. I used a flash and everything. Not a single warning about putting away cameras, and I even have a shot of the CM smiling as he was releasing the safety bars to let people out.

I've got pictures of Tower of Terror too. Nobody objected to me taking pictures. I'm pretty sure the ride mechanics saw the flash too.

Got stuck on SM a few years back. Lights came on and we hung out in our little car at an awkward angle until a CM came and got us out and then walked us off. It was actually pretty cool to see SM with the lights on.

Last December my whole group got stuck on the Matterhorn on the incline at the start of the ride. Freaked me out because you could hear the other cars zooming by. Probably stuck up to 10 minutes before a CM came and got us out. Took a couple minutes before they managed to get the lights on too.

earlier this year we got stuck on Peter Pan and they turned the lights on. My wife and daughter's car was way up high in the room with the island. I was two cars ahead of them, above the Indian chief's daughter. I took video of it. Took about ten minutes before they had the cars moving to get us off the ride. It was neat to see it with the lights on

I got stuck with the kids on Roger Rabbit, right in the room with the shrieking machines and the machine mouth that opens and closes.....we were also the last ones evacuated and OMG that was horrible!!! Another time we broke down on RR but we were not in the same place and we were evacuated first.
Got stuck on RSR the first time we rode it, at the end in the taillight cavern. That was not too bad.
Got stuck on Indy, right after you pass the doors and he tells you to go left, we had a CM come by and ask if we were OK waiting, we all said yes so we waited. They got it going again and then they let us ride again right away.

Nothing that interesting except the hole that Roger uses to save you. lol

We got to walk off Splash Mountain on our last visit. We were right before one of the inside drops, there was a log in front of us that was the one about to go over. We were stopped for a few minutes before some cast members came and helped everyone out of the logs and through the ride. The exit we were taken to was somewhere behind gates, as we were taken down the stairs and back to the public area we were all given fast passes for anytime.

We got stuck on PoC for a long time. They turned the music :scared1: off after about 20 minutes (before the mutany!) and the lights on. We rode the rest of the way with the lights on. It was great. Thankfully they turned the mucis off. I love the music but not when you are stuck in a boat in one place for 1/2 hour!

I understand that It's a Small World boats used to routinely bottom out, where they'd just stop. Then they'd send a CM to remove people from the ride so they could restart. That eventually prompted a refurbishment where they deepened the flume. Disney claims that it was because they had issues with friction from where the fiberglass hulls had been patched over the years, but that can't really be it. If that were the real problem, they would just get new boat hulls and be done with it - rather than take on the more expensive job of deepening the flume. The supposed real reason was because the visitors were too fat.
