Long Story Short I am going to school for Sign Language Interpretation. I was curious if DCL offered it on every cruise or if just certain ones and I sent an email asking about it.

So if you or someone you know needs an interpreter and are planning to cruise the following dates have prearranged SLI's available for guests. If a date is not included fill out the Medical Form and DCL will try and accommodate the request for a SLI. They can't guarantee it for sailings that aren't prearrange but do try and schedule someone if possible.

Here are the Prearranged dates: I know many families who have children with Speech Language Delays use ASL to communicate and might find this helpful too.

Listed below ware the sailings that have been pre-arranged for a Sign
    Language Interpreter to be Onboard

    Sailing Ship Itinerary
    11/11/2010 Disney Wonder 3
    11/24/2010 Disney Wonder 4
    12/5/2010 Disney Wonder 4
    12/16/2010 Disney Wonder 3
    1/6/2011 Disney Wonder 15
    1/26/2011 Disney Dream 4
    2/20/2011 Disney Dream 4
    2/24/2011 Disney Dream 3
    3/6/2011 Disney Dream 4
    3/13/2011 Disney Wonder 7
    3/20/2011 Disney Wonder 7
    4/14/2011 Disney Dream 3
    4/21/2011 Disney Dream 3
    5/8/2011 Disney Dream 4
    6/12/2011 Disney Dream 5
    7/10/2011 Disney Dream 5
    8/9/2011 Disney Wonder 7
    8/23/2011 Disney Wonder 7
    9/20/2011 Disney Wonder 5
    9/20/2011 Disney Wonder 5
    9/20/2011 Disney Wonder 5
    11/5/2011 Disney Magic 7
    12/29/2011 Disney Dream 5

The number on the end of that seems to be the legnth of cruise. This came directly from DCL via their contact form on their website and I thought it might be helpful.

True, but for those hearing impaired Guests sailing on dates that are not scheduled for SLI, DCL does at least offer the following - -

    Hearing Disabilities

Guests with hearing disabilities have access to a number of provisions to ensure enjoyment of their vacation, including:

    * Assistive listening systems at theaters and other performance venues

    * Guest Assistance Packets containing show scripts, available at the Guest Services Desk

    * Stateroom Communication Kits containing a base unit with alarm clock, bed shaker notification, door bell and phone alerts, phone amplifier, smoke detector with a strobe light and a TTY. Guests can arrange to receive this kit at the time of booking, or through Guest Services onboard

    * Captioning on many video monitors in common areas, and closed captioning on select stateroom movies

Yes that is easily located on Disney Cruise Line's website but the schedule for when to book a cruise with a prearranged SLI onboard is not that is why I posted this. Disney goes out of their way very often to make sure everyone can enjoy the activities onboard which is why we choose to sail with them.

Thanks for reiterating what is available for those who are Hard of Hearing!

Thanks for posting this list of dates.

I'm trying to talk my DD into taking ASL classes since she's taking early childhood ed and wants to work for DCL.

ASL is quite fun as a class to take and working in ECE would find it helpful for sure! I hope she reaches her goals!

I would gather that once the 2012 itineraries are fully announced they will then work on the SLI schedule at that point so I'll try and find out those dates at a later date!

On our first cruise, there were sign language interpreters for every show. I believe they were prearranged for, because I did not see them on our second cruise. It was fascinating watching them as they would switch off to sign the shows and announcements. They were very animated and not only were the words interpreted but also the feelings.
