September 28, 2016, DVC Member Cruise on the Magic!

I have very limited internet, will be looking at excursions on Jan 14 when we get home!

Hi everyone,

Poison Ivy and I have secured a 4hr. private tour of Halifax with Go North tours on Sept. 30th for $86.25/person. This is an excellent tour company with a great reputation and I have spoken with Laila North(owner) about customizing our tour. We will go to Peggy's Cove first thing with other options to choose from including, but not limited to; Titanic gravesite, Terrence Bay, Hackett's Cove and more.

Everyone will have the option of being dropped off at the Citadel, which is a separately priced tour and walking back to the ship, or staying on the van for a ride to the ship.

We will depart on the first tour out that morning. The van can handle 8 people comfortably. We are looking for anywhere from 2 to 6 people to join us.

Thanks, Johnny Quest - this sounds great, my sister & I would love to join your tour. The smaller tours are much better. Please let us know at some point what other info you will need.

LG, looking forward to meeting you and your sister. I'm sure it will be a great day in Nova Scotia!

We have room for up to 4 more people if anyone is interested.

A couple of folks have mentioned possibly seeing a Broadway show before or after the Cruise. Tickets for the two Disney Shows, Aladdin & Lion King, are not yet released for Sept or Oct.

If anyone is interested in Hamilton, the hottest musical on Broadway these days, I'd encourage you to check it out & get your tickets now. It is sold out through July except for the matinee on July 27; this morning, there were six or seven July dates with tickets still available. They recently released tickets through October - most Friday and Saturday evenings are already sold out. Here is a link to that site - http://www.hamiltonbroadway.com/

the van sounds like a good way to see Halifax. I've emailed Patricia to see if she is interested.

thanks for the info. Lion King is one show on my list but Hamilton sounds like a hit! We're not planning to stay in NYC since we live so close, so I don't know if this is something we'll be able to fit in this trip. But I'm holding out hope. I really love Broadway.

Hope you guys can join us. It's a 10 pax van but Laila recommends 8. Can't wait.

Jim,

Bobbiwoz and I are interested. Do you have room for 2?

Patricia,

Yes, we will certainly hold 2 spots for you and Bobbiwoz. I will send my info to you in a PM.

Since our tour is custom, we can all work on the itinerary together.

Looking forward to planning the van!

We have returned from our NYE and more trip! I was able to celebrate my birthday with my grand daughter who shares the day with me!

Next on our agenda is the DCL southern Caribbean cruise that was offered to DVC members at special prices. We booked an outside cabin, we are on Deck 2. Will anyone here be on that cruise?

Bobbi

Let the planning begin! Go North Tours specializes in guided wine tours as well, and is adding a 7 pax minivan to their fleet to accommodate more guests.
So if anyone else in interested in joining us on our guided tour of Halifax let us know. The more the merrier!

I am hoping to hit Peggy's Cove first thing to avoid some of the hop on/ hop off congestion combined with any other tour busses arriving.

If you click on that video in JQ's post, you'll see the Peggy's Cove footage begin around the 1:41 mark. They were travelling around Sept 10, 2014, to give some idea as to weather conditions as well. Peggy's Cove was not their first stop and it does look pretty busy there since it's such a popular tourist attraction.

Thank you gometros for that invaluable link regarding the other ships in port with us.

Looks like 3 ships in port on Sept 30th http://www.cruisetimetables.com/visitinghalifaxnovascotia-30sep2016.html
1) Disney Magic (our ship) does not have a time posted but it shows as docking at 9:30 am on Oct 5.
2) RC - Serenade of the Seas docks at 9:00 am
3) Celebrity Summit docks at 10:00 am

I don't know the size of these ships or the excursion times to visit Peggy's Cove. I'm guessing our Cruise being a specialty cruise/chartered sail thru DVC is why there is no posted time for when we dock.

but if you click on Oct. 5th, you'll see the Disney Magic is posting 0930-1800. Hopefully this will be the same for Sept 30.

I'm completely out of the loop on any DVC deals right now. What was this So. Caribbean cruise offer? I would have loved to take that one.

JQ and I took advantage of a 7 nt Fantasy Caribbean summer promotion for DVC members in 2012 and scored a Cat 4 cabin for roughly 1700.00 for 2.
It was so great. The stipulation was you had to be flexible with dates, and ready to sail within a few short months of booking.

We paid under $2117 for the 7 night Southern Caribbean cruise on the Wonder from San Juan. We are in an outside cabin on deck 2, so nothing fancy there, and the price included our travel insurance. We go to 5 ports, only 1 sea day, but it's going to feel good to get out of the cold Ohio or NJ winter!

Re the times we are in Halifax - the cruise confirmation email I received in mid-December shows our port times in Halifax as 9:30 a.m, - 4:30 p.m. Peggy's Cove as the first thing sounds like a great way to start the tour.

Re the other ships in port with us - I looked them up, each has capacity of 2100-2400 passengers.

Bobbi - you got a great price on that cruise. so jealous! Looks the sail dates are very soon. Let us know how the ports are. Definitely want to do this someday. I pray you have great weather.

mathmagicland thanks so much for that information. I guess I never got that email on our port time or maybe I did and didn't read it??? Who knows.

Happy Sunday everyone. Hope we're all enjoying the weekend. It's getting cold here in NJ! :cold::cold:
But no snow yet.

Here's a great drone video of Peggy's Cove that shows the magnitude of this beautiful place. I always like to know what I'm up against when touring places. I'm assuming the lighthouse is not open to visitors. I'll see if I can find something on the main building which looks like a welcome/hospitality center.

Enjoy.
