Had DH help me with the math. I am ending the month (since I am calling this past weekend's weigh-in the end of the month for me) at 70% of my goal. Kind of disappointed I didn't get closer to my goal, but overall I am relatively pleased with my progress. I knew my goal of 6 pounds was a lofty goal (so lofty in fact, that I didn't even REMEMBER that was the goal until I looked back!!), but AIM HIGH, right?? Missed by goal by a touch less than 2 pounds. Oh well.

For October I am going to set a mid-month goal (right before I leave for Bermuda) and an end of the month goal (post vacation weight, etc). Thinking now about what those numbers will be.

Just finally checking in after a whirlwind family reunion weekend with no internet service and no real walking areas (I was often times like a cages lion) I lost 2 pounds this week (90% OF MY GOAL) and am 1/2 a pound away from my pre-trip goal . Will do one more weight in on Wednesday before I board the plane!!!

Does anyone else have scale apprehension when they need to do their weigh-in? I feel this at every weigh-in and I know that I shouldn't be nervous about what I will see since I have been on a losing-streak since I started. But perhaps it's the notion that I am nervous for how much I have lost. I see, feel, and experience the results of the loss in my daily routine, from having easier times walking, smaller clothing sizes, and smaller food portions because I'm not so hungry.

But for some reason the scale intimidates me and I worry each time I am about to step on. I hope I am not alone in this notion. It's silly really - but it's a validator for how hard we've all worked during the week.
I feel this way exactly, Same for me in that I see the results without the scale, how my clothes fit, how i look in the mirror etc but

My favorite trick is parking far far far away from the store I want to go to so I can get extra steps. We have an outdoor shopping mall near my work and I usually park on the far end near the Target and then I walk all the way towards the movie theatre where the stores are located. It gets me moving and a few extra hundred steps by the time I'm done.

This happens to me also ...I know its not right to feel this way as I can see my progress in so many other ways but I am so fearful that a "bad" number will discourage me and jeopardize my will power. For so many years of my life I was able to eat bad choices and just promise myself that the next day would be a new day and just enjoy the eating day today !!! It hard to change a thought process like that so I think basically im afraid a poor number will weaken me to say " I didn't lose weight this week so I might as well reward myself and my bruised self esteem with a devil dog...or two !!!" Craziness I say !!!

This is a great strategy !!! Once you start thinking steps it becomes addicting !!!

I definitely do this.... but I didn't realize it had a real NAME! I MUCH prefer activity that is productive..... hence I'd rather mow the lawn than go for a walk.... I'd rather clean out the garage than lift weights...... you get the idea. Anyhow.... I try to stand instead of sit (when possible) and when I do sit to do things like fold laundry, I try to sit on a yoga ball to help with my core. I do wall sits when supervising students who are testing, I do step-ups on the playground equipment when on recess duty (keeping my attention on the kids at all time, of course). In fact, I find that the kids are fascinated that I keep moving and sometimes they join me.... it is like a little parade of kids walking around doing lunges or step-ups! I think it is important for kids to see adults building in activity whenever/where ever they can! I do calf raises while cooking in the kitchen and yoga moves while standing and waiting for things. Other than sitting to eat, drive, or use the computer, I am rarely STILL. That being said, that physics theory of "a body in motion tends to stay in motion"proves very true for me.... if I sit for a while.... I want to KEEP sitting. But if I am moving I want to keep moving!

Hey friends..... I didn't get to go out for my walk because I had no "extra" time other than my lunch..... I ended up covering the nurse's office between testing sessions. Guess I'll pull on the sneakers and drag brush around the yard for a bit when I get home. It is a GORGEOUS afternoon here, but the rest of the week doesn't look so beautiful. It looks like we will be getting some much-needed rain. Glad I did so much laundry over the weekend.

I also need to take an hour or so and prep for tomorrow night's WW meeting. Thank goodness dinner is in the crockpot! Made a pot roast that hopefully will yield leftovers for tomorrow night. Otherwise it will be an egg night for the men tomorrow, since it is my work night.

Heading to WDW for a long weekend at Food and Wine , and of course Magic Kingdom !!! My first time going without kids !!!! VERY mixed emotions...hoping the melancholy feeling will pass once I'm there because the other half of me is ridiculously excited.

Having a fitbit (I have been wearing it for over a year now) has certainly opened my eyes to how much more I could be moving! I had weekends when I had maybe 2000 steps a day! Some of the things I do to stay active: When brushing my teeth I am standing on one foot to improve my balance. My electric tooth brush has a timer which tells me when 30 seconds are over and so I change leg every 30 seconds. I also have started to force myself to be better about tidying my place. I live alone and sometimes things could deteriorate a bit around here. But making myself to get up and clean up before I go to bed really adds some daily activity. And it also is a good thing mentally as I just feel far more comfortable in a nice clean place! As long as weather permits, I either walk or bike to work, it is about 2 miles from home. Oh, and I try to always use the stairs!
 
Hello everyone. I'm sorry I've been absent for the last few days. It has been a very busy late week and weekend here in Colorado. Late last week DW2B accidentally caught her engagement ring between her chair and desk at work knocking a couple of the pave stones out and requiring me to take a trip to the jeweler where I purchased it. Fortunately he did not charge me to replace the stones. While at the mall I was able to get some steps in circling the mall, plus I was able to finally find a vest and bow tie for myself (we already had the groomsmen's purchased).

I've just caught back up reading and will try to be more active this week if possible.

QOTW - September 26/27

I can't believe we've already reached the last weekend of September! I want to do the QOTW in two parts. First, is @courtneybeth 's question about scale apprehension.



Second, we all give the scale a lot of power. It is almost impossible to avoid. But for this weekend, I want to know what you LOVE about yourself. Big brown eyes? Arms and chest that can lift your body weight? Legs that run for miles? An infectious sense of humor? A shoulder big enough for everyone? This weekend I want you to brag!

I think it very much depends on the day of the week for me in regards to scale apprehension. For instance, on Monday and Tuesday, when I haven't worked out that morning and I maybe overdid it while watching football over the weekend, yes I do get apprehensive. However, on Fridays, when I've usually just put in a really good workout and am usually at my lowest weight of the week I actually look forward to the scale.

As for part two, I like my hands, they're large and strong. I've been able to palm a basketball since I was in the 8th grade.

At work, instead of parking in the garage I park on the opposite side of the parking lot so I need to walk further. I also walk to Starbucks on my last break of the day and get a refresher. I also prefer to take the stairs instead of waiting for an escalator or elevator.

I started wearing a fitbit in August for a health event that my workplace was doing. We were required to get 6000 steps a day 5 out of 7 days a week for a month, plus we received an additional reward for 200,000 steps total. Well, the 200,000 steps were actually pretty easy, but the 6000 steps a day were difficult on days that I didn't work and didn't have a workout planned. In fact, I found that on my weekends at the time I spent way too much time watching TV and playing video games while sitting on my rear end. So, I've stayed committed to being more active on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Who can believe that it is already the end of September? This month has just FLOWN by! Tomorrow is about numbers and celebrations; today is about reflection. Putting aside the scale, how do you feel about your progress this month? What have you done that really works for you? What do you need to change?
 
Does anyone else have scale apprehension when they need to do their weigh-in? I feel this at every weigh-in and I know that I shouldn't be nervous about what I will see since I have been on a losing-streak since I started. But perhaps it's the notion that I am nervous for how much I have lost. I see, feel, and experience the results of the loss in my daily routine, from having easier times walking, smaller clothing sizes, and smaller food portions because I'm not so hungry.

But for some reason the scale intimidates me and I worry each time I am about to step on. I hope I am not alone in this notion. It's silly really - but it's a validator for how hard we've all worked during the week.

QOTW - September 26/27

I can't believe we've already reached the last weekend of September! I want to do the QOTW in two parts. First, is @courtneybeth 's question about scale apprehension.



Second, we all give the scale a lot of power. It is almost impossible to avoid. But for this weekend, I want to know what you LOVE about yourself. Big brown eyes? Arms and chest that can lift your body weight? Legs that run for miles? An infectious sense of humor? A shoulder big enough for everyone? This weekend I want you to brag!

I am an extremely grade obsessed person. It isn't my best quality because it is soaring that makes me far more focused on the end result. I always cared far more about the grade than whatever I learned in class. I'm long past school but I still tend to approach many things with grades in mind. Weight loss fits neatly into this because the numbers make it absolutely quantifiable. If I weigh once a week, the scale becomes everything and I become very stressed out and apprehensive about paying it a visit. So for me at least, I avoid the apprehension and fear by weighing every day. I can process that as trends - water retention, a big meal that hasn't made it through the system, hormones wreaking havoc. I know that daily weighing is an even worst prospect for some but I can treat it as a data point rather than a controller of mood. Weekly weighing just freaks me out.

As for @courtneybeth 's question, I definitely have scale apprehension every week. I think about everything I did wrong all week and how I don't really see a difference from last week and just convince myself that I gained it all back. I just give the scale too much power to allow it to "punish" me for being bad and "reward" me for being good. When it really isn't a measure of how hard I've worked or my worth. I'm sure we've all experienced weeks where we've done everything right and scale still doesn't budge!

WI this week -down 2 pounds. I lost that pound I gained last week and then some. That puts me at 55% to goal. I know I won't make my whole goal but I'm happy to be over 50%

I've finally seen the scale move downward! I've loss 4lbs. Yay! It's a start. I haven't managed to completely give up sweets, but I've reduced the amount I eat.

I am exactly the same way!! If I weigh in only once a week, how do I know if this is just one of those freak days when I suddenly have 3 pounds more on the scale (which then disappear two days later). Therefore I weigh in daily. I have tried a different strategy as well: Not weighing at all for a length of time (like 4 to 6 weeks) and then do daily weigh ins for a week. That way, at least I know that I will see a lower number after a longer stretch of time and then weighing in several days in a row, I make sure to get an average of where I stand at the moment.

I found a really neat feature on my fitbit recently. I am manually tracking my weight there every day and it gives me a weekly average every week. So, while some numbers are higher, others are lower and I just noticed that during September I managed to have continuously one pound less as my weekly average. I really liked seeing that!

I am very happy with my progress this month! I find that going back to pure calorie counting after a long time with weight watchers definitely gave me a new push and determination. I notice that weight watchers definitely helped me change my eating habits as it forces you to eat far more veggies and fruit than most people do on their own accord. Or at least it forced me to do that as I like big portions, so they had to made up of mainly zero point foods. Now veggies have calories and sometimes it is tempting to cut out the broccoli to have calories for a piece of chocolate. But I notice that I crave eating veggies and don't mind using up calories for them. And with fruit is good for me to keep an eye on how many calories everything has!

QOTD - September 29

Who can believe that it is already the end of September? This month has just FLOWN by! Tomorrow is about numbers and celebrations; today is about reflection. Putting aside the scale, how do you feel about your progress this month? What have you done that really works for you? What do you need to change?

Progress this month has been good.... not outstanding, but definitely good. What worked for me was going back go basics (weighing/measuring EVERYTHING, no LBNT [licks, bites, nibbles, tastes], getting in my water, a BIT more exercise, etc). What I need to change is..... getting my healthy fats! I eat almost none! I went back to putting coconut oil in my coffee this week.... it is only 1 PPV (I only use 1 tsp) and while it isn't enough, it is more than I was getting. And I almost NEVER even HIT my daily PPV target (shame on me!) so this additional PPV in the morning hasn't had me suffering at all! Also need to bump up the exercise. The season of yard work is drawing to a close so I need to get back to intentional exercise (walking, weights, circuits, etc).

I am exactly the same way!! If I weigh in only once a week, how do I know if this is just one of those freak days when I suddenly have 3 pounds more on the scale (which then disappear two days later). Therefore I weigh in daily. I have tried a different strategy as well: Not weighing at all for a length of time (like 4 to 6 weeks) and then do daily weigh ins for a week. That way, at least I know that I will see a lower number after a longer stretch of time and then weighing in several days in a row, I make sure to get an average of where I stand at the moment.

I found a really neat feature on my fitbit recently. I am manually tracking my weight there every day and it gives me a weekly average every week. So, while some numbers are higher, others are lower and I just noticed that during September I managed to have continuously one pound less as my weekly average. I really liked seeing that!

I am very happy with my progress this month! I find that going back to pure calorie counting after a long time with weight watchers definitely gave me a new push and determination. I notice that weight watchers definitely helped me change my eating habits as it forces you to eat far more veggies and fruit than most people do on their own accord. Or at least it forced me to do that as I like big portions, so they had to made up of mainly zero point foods. Now veggies have calories and sometimes it is tempting to cut out the broccoli to have calories for a piece of chocolate. But I notice that I crave eating veggies and don't mind using up calories for them. And with fruit is good for me to keep an eye on how many calories everything has!

Hey all! Back at work today..... but they haven't called me for night maintenance work yet, so perhaps that "cash cow" has dried up?? Kind of sad (the $$ was much needed), but partially relieved.

I had a massive headache when I got home yesterday that Advil just wasn't touching. I have neck/jaw/shoulder issues that usually lead to this and I just couldn't get comfortable to rest. But lo and behold..... I realized that I had only had 8 PPV all day (out of my daily 26).... and so I ate dinner and felt like a new person!! I knew when I packed my lunch it probably wasn't enough protein (or even enough food), but I was rushing and figured "good enough".... but obviously it wasn't!

I had a big serving of nuts after dinner (while watching DWTS) even though it was past 7pm, in an effort to get somewhere near hitting my daily target. Hope that doesn't backfire!

Off to grab my next student to test! TTYL.................P
