..... I had a few minutes to spare before collecting my sons from school and went upstairs to my room to do some chores. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw smoke rising from on top of a set of drawers............. my plastic sunglass case was burning!! I moved it quickly and realised that I'd placed a mirror near it at an angle, with the magnified side facing the window where the sun was streaming in!

I don't know what would have happened if I'd not been there - it could be that it would have just fizzled out, but since the case was on top of a booklet and very close to the curtains, I'm grateful that I was there!

( The irony is I'm so careful when it comes to anything that might cause a fire, but I didn't give it a second thought where I'd placed the mirror)

Blimey Shirley you were very lucky what a good job you went upstairs when you did.......I'm sure not many people would give a second thought as to where they put a mirror. Thank god you were there.

    OMG, that IS scary!!!

I remember reading in the paper a couple of years ago about someone who's house burned down and when it was investigated they concluded that it was caused by the sun, shining on a mirror which had reflected onto a hand towel and caught fire  Talk about freak accident!

I'm glad you were there to see it happen.

Good thing you popped home, then:rolleyes:

I never put the washing machine on when we go out now since one years ago burst into flames. Don't want to see that sort of thing again, thank you very much (especially as we had to get all the washing out, rinse it in the bath and then try wringing and drying!!).
