We will be visiting DL for the first time next week and we plan to be at the parks before opening. If we would like to ride RSR more than once, is it best to ride standby and then get fastpasses or to get fastpasses and then ride standby. How quickly do fastpasses tend to run out now that it has been open for a while? Thanks!

They usually run out after 90 minutes to 2 hours. During the week of Memorial Day I would not wait 2 hours. You could use a FP runner while everyone does standby. If the runner is unable to meet you in the queue, they could do single rider and them you all ride together with the FP later. If you have hoppers you can also send a runner to get FPs on more than one day.

I agree with SMD.

OP, the FP distribution line is longest at park opening. It is usually more time effective to get FPs at least 30 minutes after park opening. And send a runner rather than waste the whole group's time.

Riding RS at park opening is risky. If you do not get to the parks early the standby line gets really long really fast. And way too often you waste time in that line only to have RSR not open on time because of ride issues.

RSR does have a single rider line. That is a good option for some to get on multiple rides in the same day.

Thanks SMD and Hydroguy. We have WDW down to a science but I feel so unprepared for this trip! We will be at DL Wednesday the 28th through Friday the 30th. Do you think the crowds will still be bad from Memorial Day?

I agree with the first part! We used this strategy this past week & I never had to wait at all. I walked right up to the machines & got my passes from the cast member & was on my way in minutes! :)

If you wait til 30 minutes after park opening to collect Fastpasses for RSR, how late ( roughly ) would the return time be at that stage?

TIA

We have used the same plan for RSR on our last two trips (including this last weekend) and it's worked perfectly.

We get to the park early (7:15 for an 8:00 rope drop) and make sure we're at the front of the pack with me on the far left and my wife/kids on the far right. When the rope drops, I head for the FP while her and the kids get in line for the ride where I join them as soon as I have the FP's. We ride once, then spend an hour or so in Carsland until our FP window opens. We then grab more FP's (by then the FP return is early afternoon) and head back for the ride to use our first FP's. Later in the day, we use the second set of FP's for a third ride.

That allows us three rides (actually four on this last trip because the ride broke and we ended up sitting for 15 minutes right before you enter Luigi's/Ramone's and they let us ride again) with virtually no wait. It does require you to be at the front of the pack at rope drop though.

Do you have to line jump to catch up to them on the very first ride then?

I am thinking about the options for RSR as well. I keep reading the advice to just come back after an hour and get FP's but we want to ride twice in a day and SRL is not an option for our group. I am considering either:

#1 Wide Right at RD together if RSR is running and then come back later for a FP, or

#2 Get there early enough(non EE day) to pull an early FP, and then come back when the FP window opens and (hopefully) pull another set of FP.

Anyone can chime in on which would make more sense.

I think #1 makes more sense. You risk RSR not being open at park opening but that is life. I have heard of folks doing #2 but it is hard. You have to be at the very, very front of the FP distribution line.

I get back to the rest of the family prior to them getting to the entrance of RSR (the line goes out the entrance and down Route 66) or have my wife wait there and let those behind her go on until I get there. I know some here have a problem with it, but when my wife has explained to the CM's at the entrance why she's waiting, they never have a problem with it.

Of the two options you list, I'd go with number 1.

We did #1 last week with our two kids (ages 6&8), us and my parents. We had to hold hands and really try to stay together during wide right, but it worked. We were not running just walking, and we waited about 10-15 minutes tops to ride it. Then we went to ride TSM while my husband lined up for FPs. I think the return time was around 1030-1130. I was praying the whole time that it would be running at park opening so we didn't waste our early entry time if it was down. This was everyone's favorite ride, and one we could all enjoy!

FP's were all gone by 11:30 when we got there on Monday and stand-by was posted at 120 minutes. We did single rider and it still took 35 minutes (FP wait was at least that long too). Crowds were low that day and both Mater and Luigi were basically walk-ons. Two hours in line isn't a great use of park time; single-rider is getting tons of use by groups now.

Thanks. When you say when FPs were gone it helps to say at what time the park opened. :)
