First Solo Trip to WDW for Food and Wine & Hurricane Matthew - OCT 2016 Updated 12/30 Post #165-167

Love the 1.8 lens! Great shots on the PoC! They don't have Fast Pass for the 7 Dwarfs? I love the People Mover too. So sad they took it out at Disneyland!

The 1.8 prime lenses are nice but the 35mm f/1.8 is okay. The shots would be better with a f/1.4 prime lens. Thank you Denise. There are FP+ for the 7DMT. When I made my FP+, I didn't get any 7DMT except for one which was suppose to be on Saturday. But thanks to the bump on Friday and we got to Florida on Saturday, I lost my FP+ for the 7DMT. So I tried to get to the park early but I didn't get there when the rope drop. I can never get tired of the Peoplemover at the MK. It would be nice if DL revitalized the Peoplemover with that track still there. Right now which remains of the Rocket Rods track which was a big failure. I still remember riding Rocket Rods when it was at DL for about a year which the wait time was ridiculous.

Great shots with a great lens. Hope you made it on to 7DMT.

Thanks PiO. You will find out later on during the trip report if I rode it or not.

What a shame that you did not get to ride Seven Dwarfs Mine Train that day. I hope that you got to ride it later in the trip.

Corinna

It was a shame but I didn't plan my day out well of not getting up early to the MK during the rope drop. I made a 101 mistake of getting to the park early.

That was nice you got to enjoy the dessert party. It looked good, but I can understand how it may not taste as good as it looks. Too bad you didn't me it to MK in time for the actual rope drop, and had to try 7DMT on another day.

The Illuminations Sparkling Desserts Party is a nice alternative of not staking a spot or a FP+ which can result in wait times. But it does require wait time as well. That was nice of Dennis and Ann to invite me to join them that night. The desserts were good but they were not to my liking. It was a shame that I didn't ride the 7DMT that morning. We did talk about that it wasn't worth an hour to ride since it is less than a 3 minute ride time.

Day 5 – October 20, 2015 – Part 3

Strolling along the Magic Kingdom

When I watched the Carousel of Progress at Tomorrowland, I head on over towards Frontierland to see another classic show that was once at Disneyland. The next attraction that I went to see at the Magic Kingdom that afternoon was the Country Bear Jamboree. I do have missed the CBJ when it was at DL which is the Winnie the Pooh ride. I like to go to the MK to see that show along with the Peoplemover and Carousel of Progress which were at DL in the past and now at the MK. Also when I was there, I checked out the area around Frontierland to see Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade at 3pm.

When I got on over to Frontierland, the façade of the CBJ is covered. It was still running that day.

I got in when the Cast Members let the guests in the theater.

It is great to see a classic show like the Country Bear Jamboree.

The CBJ still hasn’t change from the past years which is good. I enjoy seeing the regular CBJ but I also do miss the Christmas version during the holiday season where it is decorated.

After the CBJ, I had some time to kill until I find a spot for the 3pm FoF parade. I have been thinking of watching it from Main Street and Frontierland. I remember that the parade will start from Frontierland to Main Street. So it made sense to watch it from Frontierland.

There were some rides that I wanted to go on when I was at the MK like the 7DMT which the wait time was still in that hour plus range and my other favorite ride the Walt Disney World Railroad was not running which was a shame. I went on back to Main Street to get pictures of the Halloween decorations before I went on back to Frontierland.

The Halloween Scarecrows at Main Street Town Square are always nice to see. We don’t have the scarecrows on MS TS at DL.

Main Street wasn’t that busy which was nice when walking up and down.

The Hub and Partners statue is great to see.

I head on over back to Frontierland and got a spot right close to the Country Bear Jamboree building which I am able to get a good spot to take pictures of the parade. I waited for about half an hour until the parade started.

The Grand Marshall vehicle was approaching before the parade.

Festival of Fantasy Parade

The 3pm Festival of Fantasy Parade has now started and approaching. During the parade, I changed lenses from the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 along with the Nikon 70-200 f/4 lens which I bought it a few weeks before my trip. I was glad that I got the telephoto lens before the trip which helps me a lot.

The first float is the Princess Garden unit.

Tangled unit

The Little Mermaid unit

Peter Pan unit

Brave unit

Sleeping Beauty unit

Finale & Mickey’s Airship unit

The parade was now over and heading on over towards Main Street. I really enjoyed the Festival of Fantasy parade at the MK where it is better than the Mickey’s Soundsational parade at DL which is over 5 years old. This one has been not so long. It is a great parade but I would not say it is better over the Main Street Electrical parade or Paint the Night but it is a great parade with a lot of characters.

After the parade, I packed all my stuff and left the park. I have been at the park for a while that day which I mostly would take a break in the afternoon. But I had a fun time at the MK where it was time to take my break. That day was Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party that night which I don’t have a ticket for that night.

I left the MK and got back to the Sheraton Vistana Resort around 4pm which was not that long but I had something special that day which you will find out on the next update.

Nice pictures of the decorations on Main Street and the parade. I caight a little of that parade on my trip while we were in the stores, but I was too tired to watch it and take any pictures.

Wow! Looks like you had a great spot for the parade! You got some fantastic shots of the parade! :worship:

Thank you Alison. The Festival of Fantasy parade is nice and the wait time was not as long like Dl with Mickey's Soundsational parade.

Nice pictures of the parade. Glad you got the 70 - 200 lens as well.

Thank you PiO. The 70-200 f/4 lens is a nice lens to have. Glad I bought this lens and it will be even better when I pair it with a FF body.

Thank you Denise. The spot was nice. I was originally planning on watching it from MS but it would require even more wait time and seeing it from Frontierland is shorter and starts from that land.

Day 5 – October 20, 2015 – Part 5

Dinner at Be Our Guest

After a nice morning and afternoon at the Magic Kingdom where I was able to go on some rides and see some shows, it was now time to head on over back to the MK that night. The only problem is that it was during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party night. I don’t have tickets that night but I can still get in the park that night before parks closes at 7pm for the regular ticket holders.

When I made my reservations for the sit down dining at Walt Disney World, the one restaurant that I wanted to get the most was “Be Our Guest”. When I was allowed to make the ressie’s half a year in advance, there was nothing on all the days that I was going to be down there. The breakfast and afternoon were the ones that were available while the dinner ressie was the one that was almost impossible to get. It was disappointing at first of not getting a ressie for dinner but I understand that it is the most popular sit down restaurant at WDW night and it was going to be impossible to get especially for a non-staying on property person. There were times where the breakfast and lunch were available but I wasn’t that interested in the breakfast and the lunch I have done before in the past. But when we got closer to about in early September, I found an opening at 6:05pm on the 20th which was on MNSSHP night. I didn’t mind since I can be in the park at that time and when we were done, we have to leave the park.

At first, DAF was supposed to have dinner with me during the trip until she had to cancel due to health issues. I wasn’t going to cancel it since I tried hard to get the ressie and had to cancel it because of DAF not going. So I asked my dad if he wanted to go with me that night for dinner and he was happy to come with me. So I was glad that I won’t be eating by myself that night. He didn’t go to the park that day since he went golfing with Dennis. So he is using one of the day tickets for a couple of hours which is quite expensive for dinner.

We left the Sheraton Vistana Resort around 5pm since it will take some time to walk from the T&TC parking lot to the T&TC area to catch the Express Monorail to the MK. We got there just before 6pm but we had to walk all the way to the backside of Fantasyland to get to BOG.

The park was busy that day with a lot of guests all dressed up for MNSSHP that night.

We got to the entrance of BOG and there were a lot of people waiting to get in the restaurant that night. We were told that it was backed up and we didn’t get in until later that day sometime around 6:30pm. It was a little late for us but I had some time to take some pictures around Fantasyland.

We were finally told that our ressie was ready and it was around 6:30pm when we were take inside the restaurant. This is my second time eating at BOG which the last time I ate at this restaurant was back in October 2012 when BOG was not even open yet to the public but opened for a sneak peek. I was fortunate to eat at BOG for lunch in 2012 and this was my first time trying the dinner and experiencing the full sit down where the service for lunch is different.

We got the ballroom which was the one that I wanted which is very nice to be in.

The menu at Be Our Guest restaurant that night.

There wasn’t a lot of choices to choose from but they had some dishes that I wanted to try.

I had the potato leek soup as my starter.

For the entrée, the both of us had the grilled strip steak with garlic-herb butter and pommes frites.

After having dinner, I didn’t walk too much to the other two rooms where I was mostly taking pictures of the ballroom.

I was so glad to eat at BOG that night which the experience is great and the food was good. Maybe not as good as other restaurants that I have ate at WDW or the DLR but it was good. The frites were my favorite during the meal.

When we were about to exit BOG, it was after 8:30pm that night and we were had to be escorted out of area with a CM from BOG. But I was able to get some pictures on the way out when we were walking down.

It was a little busy at Main Street where the guests are waiting for the parade that night.

We exited the park and head on over to the Contemporary Resort before we got to our car. I always like to stop at the Contemporary when I am in Florida since it is my favorite hotel resort on property. The thing I like about that place is the Monorail going in the hotel.

When we got to the Contemporary, we did a little shopping in the area to look for some gifts for some of our friends and family.

When we left, there was some work being done on the Contemporary during my visit.

We took the Monorail back to the T&TC and head back to the car to call it for the night. I could have waited that night for the fireworks from the T&TC but my dad was tired from that day and he wanted to go back to the Sheraton Vistana Resort.

That was the day on the 20th which I was able to go to the MK but I wasn’t able to go on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. But I was able to go on rides and see the Festival of Fantasy parade that day which was great. But the highlight of that day was eating at BOG restaurant.

Not that day is over, we only have a few more days left of the trip and it did feel like I was there for quite some time. Stay tune of what I have done the next day during the trip.

I see Be Our Guest is still ridiculously hard to get into. I agree, the food is no better than other DW restaurants. And celery root? I see they still have it with the lamb. I can't help but think that is just their way of making used of every bit of the celery. Like will they have potato peelings or broccoli stalk next?

That's cool you go to see some of the Halloween party. Were there escorts waiting as you came out of the restaurant for the people who didn't pay for the party? Most people who were still eating at 8 pm probably were not there for the party or they wouldn't have wasted party time eating.

Sounds like you had a nice meal. We are eating there on our next WDW trip. It's not the best food like you said, but we are going with friends who I think might appreciate it.

I'm still waiting to eat at BoG.
Looks like a nice time. Glad you had company...and I hope DAF is doing well.

I thought I had commented on your previous update, but I cannot find it. Your photos from the parade are great. I was not overly impressed with this in October, but after seeing your photos, I wonder if it deserves a second chance.

Well done on getting a dinner reservation for Be Our Guest. I had lunch there three times now, but dinner continues to elude me. The food looked lovely.

No kidding. I tried several times looking and calling to see if there were any ressies for dinner. I was about to give it up when we get closer to the trip and one just popped up and i swooped it up immediately. The food was okay but not as great as those other restaurants but the atmosphere was what I paid for by eating at BOG. LOL.

When we finished dinner, one of the CM's from BOG escorted us towards Main Street where we just parted ways. I was a little surprised at first why they didn't escorted us all the way out of Main street but i had no problem with it since we were leaving anyway. There were some party guests eating at the restaurant like we did. I would say about half of the people in at BOG at the time we left were there for the party since they were all dressed up. It will be interesting to see if Disney will let guests dressed up for the parties in the near future.

It was a nice meal. Not an exciting meal where I will eat here again but it was for the atmosphere and eating at one of the popular restaurants on-site. That is great that you will be eating there in March. Your friends will enjoy eating at BOG and hope you all get a picture with the Beast.

I'm still waiting to eat at BoG.
Looks like a nice time. Glad you had company...and I hope DAF is doing well.

Hope you will be able to eat at BOG one day.

It was nice that my dad went or I would have gone solo that night. DAF wanted to eat at that restaurant during the trip.

Thank you Corinna. Festival of Fantasy parade is nice and it is way better over Mickey's Soundsational parade at DL. It was worth seeing it one where I would see MSEP and Paint the Night parade multiple times.

I was lucky to get a ressie for the trip. Hopefully you will be able to get a dinner ressie at BOG in the near future.

Day 6 – October 21, 2015 – Part 1

Back at the Magic Kingdom to ride Seven Dwarfs Mine Train for the first time
After a nice night at the Magic Kingdom where my dad and I have dinner at Be Our Guest, it was now the fourth full day of the trip. At first, I wasn’t planning on going back to the Magic Kingdom during the rest of the trip but after not being able to ride the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, I once again had to readjust my schedule and once again, I am going to the MK first thing in the morning. But this time, I am going to be at the entrance of the MK before it opens so I was going to be there at rope drop.

At first, I was going to go by myself but my dad kept me company which was nice. He had heard me all during the time during the trip in which I wanted to go on the 7DMT the most during the trip and he wanted to see how good it was. So it was nice of him to join me that morning.

We left the hotel around 7:30am so we can get a head start to the MK which opens at 9am. I was not going to make the same mistake like the other day which I wasn’t able to ride the 7DMT. I could have waited in that hour standby queue, but from what I have read and talked to other DISers, it wasn’t worth it. It made sense to ride it first thing in the morning, get a FP+ (which I can’t), or ride it during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. So it was the first option of riding it first thing and getting to the park early that morning.

After getting to the MK parking lot and taking the Mark VI Monorail from the Transportation & Ticket Center, we were now at the MK and it was around 8:30am when we got in the park. But we had to move closer to the entrance so we can get in and head on over to our next destination.

The Welcome show was now starting and we watched the CM’s perform along with other Disney characters.

The park was now open and we head on over to Fantasyland to ride the 7DMT, I can tell that most of the guests that morning were planning on doing the same thing.

It was just crazy that morning where we had to walk fast while there were a lot of people running on over to their destination. When we got to the 7DMT, there was already a long queue of people waiting to get on the ride which is just crazy. This feels like how at Disney California Adventure with Radiator Springs Racers where everyone heads on over to that ride the first thing.

Luckily for us, we didn’t have to wait that long to go through the queue which was about 15 minutes which was fast. Good thing we came that early or we would have to wait at least an hour or more.

The interactive queue had fun activities to do when waiting in the queue.

The interactive queue had a gemstone sorting and a twirl bucket of gemstones to create projections on the ceiling.

We were now on the 7DMT and I was looking forward to taking a lot of pictures on the ride. I have took at least over a hundred pics on the 7DMT but some of them were repeats and the one’s inside the mine cave were blurry. I was not happy with the shots but you can hit or miss with photography.

When we got off the 7DMT, I was glad to be able to ride it for the first time. It was a short ride experience and I can tell why it wasn’t worth the hour plus wait time. It is a fun ride no question. I wished that I took better pictures on the ride but maybe next time when I go back to the MK and ride it again.

When we got off, it was now time to go to the next park that day. My original plan was to go to Epcot that morning but I had to ride the 7DMT that day so we plan on going to Epcot from the MK. So we head on out of the MK and on over to Epcot.

We just went to the MK just to ride the 7DMT and I’m glad to ride it that morning which I should have done it the other day but I was lazy of not getting up early. So my dad and I took the Monorail back to the T&TC and rode the Epcot Monorail to Epcot that morning.

Day 6 – October 21, 2015 – Part 2

More Food and Rain

We head on back to Epcot since there were some other food that we did missed a few days ago at Epcot. I wanted to try a few different kiosks that afternoon and go back to some of my favorites as well.

But before we head on over to World Showplace, we had FP+ for Spaceship Earth. My dad didn’t set up any plans on what kind of FP+ to use since he doesn’t know anything which I know a little about. I had my MagicBand while he had his plastic card to scan at the scanner. He was surprised that it was so easy to use and I told him that it wasn’t that hard.

We went on Spaceship Earth and I once again tried to take pictures on the ride which some turned out fine while there were at times blurry.

My dad didn’t go on any rides the first day when he went to the park since we were with Dennis, Ann and Aiko. Now it was just the two of us while they were in Cape Canaveral. We didn’t want to go with them and I planned to go to the parks that day which was all the days of the trip.

After we got off Spaceship Earth, we started to walk around World Showplace to go to the other kiosks for the Food & Wine Festival. It was not that busy that afternoon but there were at times the queue’s were busy.

The first kiosks that we went was of course the Canada kiosk.

I had the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup

My dad had the “Le Cellier” Wild Mushroom Beef Filet Mignon with Truffle Butter Sauce

I always enjoyed the Cheddar Cheese Soup at the kiosk that I really want to try the Le Cellier version one day. My dad had an idea after we talked about the food at the Canada kiosk. So he went on over to the Le Cellier Steakhouse restaurant to see if there were any openings that day. I told him that they don’t do walk ups anymore at Walt Disney World like the Disneyland Resort does. But he didn’t listen to me and when he walked up, he was told to call or go online to make a ressie. So he just called WDW to see if there were any openings and there were for lunch. Dinner was not available so we had a 1:00pm lunch time at Le Cellier. Even though I didn’t want to eat at Le Cellier during lunch but I couldn’t complain.

We had time to kill so we just walked around World Showplace until it was time for our lunch ressie.

When we were around Morocco, the rain clouds came and it started to rain. Everyone was trying to get covered up along with the both of us. But I was prepared for the rain where I brought my poncho and camera bag to keep my camera from getting wet so I was able to take pictures while walking in the rain.

When we walked on over towards the Italy pavilion, it stopped raining which was crazy. But this is Florida weather where it does rain or not.

Over at the Norway pavilion, I had to see the closed Maelstrom ride which will be converted to “Frozen Ever After” which should be open this spring. It will be interesting to see what the new Frozen ride will be like this year.

The opening where you see the boat during the Maelstrom ride is walled off.

It was sad of not riding the Maelstrom one last time when it closed in 2014.

Day 6 – October 21, 2015 – Part 3

Gran Fiesta Tour and Lunch at Le Cellier

We were now passing by the Mexico pavilion and we had to go inside. I like to go in the Mexico pavilion when I come to Epcot. This, Japan, and China pavilion are the must do pavilions to do when we come to Epcot.

Of course, we had to go on the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros which the atmosphere is like Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland which has the Blue Bayou.

After we finished up riding the Gran Fiesta Tour, it was now time for our lunch ressie at Le Cellier Steakhouse. So we walked on back to the Canada pavilion to have our lunch. It was exciting to eat at Le Cellier again for the second time which the last time I ate at this restaurant was back in December 2011 with my dad and his friend family from SoCal.

The restaurant is small and you can understand why there is a limited seating for this place.

The menu at Le Cellier Steakhouse

I asked my dad to take a picture of me in the restaurant which I rarely do.

We started off with a poutine offering which we had the Bacon-Cheddar Poutine with Canadian Black Diamond Cheddar Sauce, Nueske’s Applewood-smoked Bacon

I forgot to take a picture of my dad’s plate but he had the Angus New York Strip

I had the Le Cellier Filet Mignon. AAA Canadian Tenderloin, Mushroom Risotto, Heirloom Toy Box Tomatoes, Truffle-Butter Sauce.

The meal was great and glad that he made the ressie at Le Cellier that afternoon. But in the process, there was no way I could eat more food at Epcot during the F&W Festival. So I had to sacrifice the rest of the day at the F&W Festival at Epcot for Le Cellier which was good.

When we finished lunch, my dad wanted to go back to the room and call it for the afternoon. I was a little tired that afternoon as well so I went back with him to the car which was at the Transportation & Ticket Center area. So we had to hop on back on the Epcot Monorail back on over to the T&TC to pick up the car since we went to the MK that morning.

We got back to the car and head on back to the Sheraton Vistana Resort to rest. But I did have other plans that night which I was about to get to.

Day 6 – October 21, 2015 – Part 4

Fireworks at the Transportation & Ticket Center for the Second Time

Later that day, I was planning on going back to the Magic Kingdom that night to see the Main Street Electrical Parade and watch Wishes fireworks. Since I didn’t have a FP+ for the MSEP like on the first original plan date which was Saturday but was ruined by the bump coming to Florida. Now I planned on watching it that day. I was able to do a lot that day from the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and going back to Epcot to eat at Le Cellier. Now it was the nighttime part of the day.

Just when I was about to head on out and go back to the MK, my dad wanted me to join up with Dennis, Ann and Aiko to have dinner with them since we haven’t done much dining in Florida. The times when we had dining is when we were separated. The only time we had dinner together was at Black Angus Steakhouse. So they wanted me to join them as a courtesy. So I just went along with them and had to change my plans again during the trip. I at first was not happy but it was fine to go and have dinner with them.

We had dinner at Giordano’s which is a Chicago-style pizza restaurant that serves Italian food like pizza and pasta. I have ate at this place back in 2012 which was not bad. It was nice to have dinner with everyone during the trip which did took some time from my night.

Then we went shopping at some outlets in the area that night. I knew that I wouldn’t have any time to go to the MK and get a spot for the MSEP and fireworks. So I decided to go back to the T&TC to get the firework shots that night. My dad and Ann went with me back to the T&TC while Dennis and Aiko went back to the resort.

At first, they didn’t know if it was a good idea but they did want to see the fireworks that night and also they didn’t have to pay to see it since you can watch it from the T&TC and still get the music. I have done this on the 18th which was a few days ago.

When we got to the T&TC and head on over to the Ferry dock, the CM’s was kind enough to let me set up for Wishes fireworks that night. There were some photographers that night waiting to see and take pictures of the fireworks just like me. Unfortunately, I forgot my remote which was in my other bag. I couldn’t believe I forgot my remote that night so I had to go with the timing and since I was using the telezoom lens, any small movement would be blurry on the shots where having a remote makes it easier.

Here are some pics from that night at the T&TC with the 70-200 f/4 lens without the remote.

At first, some of the pictures were okay while some were bad without the remote. I have learned over time where it was hard to get pictures during the long exposures without the remote and it was one of those nights where I had to be steady so it wouldn’t move.

Ann and my dad were impressed from this spot of watching the fireworks without going in the park and it was a fast exit to the T&TC parking lot. So we head on back to the Sheraton Vistana Resort and call it for the night.

I was happy in order to do some things like riding the 7DMT and going back to Epcot to have lunch at Le Cellier. I was disappointed at first without going to the MK that night to see the MSEP and Wishes inside the park along with not going to the F&W Festival kiosks at Epcot. You had to make some sacrifices and some of them I didn’t like but I had a fun time that day.

The next day will be the last full day of the trip which Friday will be our last day in Florida. Stay tune of what I have done the next day during the trip.

It's hard to do everything when you are only in DW for a few days! It was lucky you got to eat in Le Celliar. It's such a nice restaurant and the food is very good. Do they still do the bread sticks that represent the different regions of Canada?

But, then you couldn't eat more of the stuff at the kiosks and enjoy the wine and food festival........

I'm glad you got to ride the 7 Dwarfs Mine Ride. Your pictures in the cave were good! All of your pictures are so good. I guess that great lens really helps.

I need to try that idea of watching the fire works from the TTC! I did buy a remote for my camera so I'm ready! Now I just have to go back to DW!!!

Great that you got another chance to get to the Magic Kingdom and better still that your dad came with you.

This feels like how at Disney California Adventure with Radiator Springs Racers where everyone heads on over to that ride the first thing.

I was thinking this was like Disneyland when the Anna and Elsa Meet and Greet was still there.

Luckily for us, we didn’t have to wait that long to go through the queue which was about 15 minutes which was fast.

That sounds like a result. I am glad that you got to try this ride and that you enjoyed it.

Dinner was not available so we had a 1:00pm lunch time at Le Cellier.

That was a stroke of luck getting a reservation on such short notice.

We started off with a poutine offering which we had the Bacon-Cheddar Poutine with Canadian Black Diamond Cheddar Sauce, Nueske’s Applewood-smoked Bacon

That looks amazing. I think I have to show this photo to my husband. While I was at Disneyland in September, he travelled around Canada and developed a taste for poutine. Maybe this will convince him to come to Epcot with me.

What a shame that you missed out on Main Street Electrical Parade, but the dinner sounds nice and the fireworks looked stunning.

Corinna

Sounds like you had a good day even though your plans were completely changed by the people in your party. I wouldn't be able to eat that much steak in a row!
