Return Of The Ropes

It is done this way at DCA at DL as well.

We always get to do everything we want so we don't understand why some feel the need to sprint when they drop the rope.:confused3

I agree Dan, I've always hated that, it's one of the reasons I don't do rope drop. For some reason it seemed a little more civilized when they held you outside the tap stiles. I'm a little person and get run over in the best of times, I'm never in a hurry when at WDW (I'm pretty sure it's still going to be there in 5 min.) and all the pushing and shoving is just silly.

Hate, hate, hate this. Hate it. Absolutely hate it.

Did I mention how much I hate it? ;)

When they went to the no-rope procedures at DHS, EP and AK, it made park opening so much more...civilized. Reduced the :crowded: and the subsequent risk of injury. Why they want to go back to a more difficult, more dangerous way of doing park opening is beyond me.

In theory I agree with everyone who says this is awful, but...

One of our most magical moments ever happened at the ropes in Hollywood Studios. :)

We got there early and saw a nearly empty rope off to our right (people were gathering at the centre rope, as I guess they thought it'd give them more of a straight shot to Toy Story). We strolled up and began chatting with the CM manning the rope, as a whole bunch of other folks piled in behind us. And, wouldn't you know it? We ended up picked to be the "Family of the Day" and were escorted past the rope to ride Toy Story Mania before anyone else. pixiedust:

So, I don't suppose I'll ever be able to think of rope drop with anything other than warm feelings from now on. And hey, at least there's no chance of our typical tapstyle frustration - when that ONE person in front of you magically turns into fifteen, as his late-arriving family and friends show up. And then grandma takes freakin' forever figuring out how to match up her Mickey heads. And gets all outraged and shouty at you when you hop past her to use the tapstyle on her other side (AS instructed by the CM!).

I wish they wouldn't go back to this. So much better the other way. If it's still like this when I go in November, I will plan on getting to HS a little later.

Took the words right out of my mouth (fingers??). I really wish they would explain the rationale for this.

This is so dumb. Kinda glad we're keeping the H&V pre-opening ADR even though JTA will be closed just so we don't have to be herded like cattle.

Just an FYI-they have also returned to Rope Drops at DAK and Epcot.:)

Yes, I had read that, too. Not happy about that either. But, I since I don't ride ToT or RnR, I can afford to get to HS a little later and skip that nonsense.

I try and get pre-park breakfasts because I hate the rope drop thing. This year, I wasn't able to get them. I will have to endure it at MK, AK, and Epcot. Hoping it'll be ok.

If you ever want to see a scary picture, do a Keys to the Kingdom tour with a time that is shortly before Magic Kingdom opens. You will be about midway down Main Street and the tour guide will pull you closer to the buildings or the short street midway there. And then they are released from the entrance. :scared1: A sight (albeit a scary sight) to behold.

This can't be the rationale, can it? Another naked money-grab? "Hey, you hate the new RD procedures so much, you can skip it by getting an ADR for a (moderately-to-severely overpriced) breakfast!" Even I am not quite that cynical.

(Not quite yet--but getting there.)

We loved old fashioned rope drop when they had it at the parks - so what if people sprint by you, right? We found it exciting, and never had any issues with it.

It makes so much more sense to get as many people as possible past the ticket/tap whatever-you-want-to-call-them turnstiles as early as possible. If rope drop is the running of the bulls, then backups at the stiles are traffic jams ripe for road rage.

Not sure what you mean, but I have anxiety and I am not very good with crowds, and prone to panic attacks. I know that it's one of the scenarios I am not very comfortable with, and has been unpleasant for me in the past. So, a pre-park open breakfast was a good solution for that issue. Also, I'm not keen on the crowds during Wishes. Still working on trying to make Wishes a little easier for me somehow.

We watch Wishes from behind the castle, near Belle's cottage. It's never been even slightly crowded there, and the main fireworks are over Beast's castle :)
