I hope this is okay to post this here. If anyone is looking for an immediate way to help Katrina victims, this message was just sent out from the Assistant Dean at the College that I work at (University of Illinois College of Medicine). This is a legitimate request, so if anyone can help, I'm sure it will be appreciated.

I just used the website Cheapmom provided to send some diapers and formula to the health center. Hope they get to the right place, and hope they get there fast!

Thanks for the practical info, Shelley. I also used the 1-800-Diapers link (thanks, CheapMom) - which is a whole lot easier than trying to mail a big box of diapers!

Have you also posted this info on the Hurricane Katrina board (see Community Board)?

I've been trying to find some way to help that feels more personal than giving money, and I really appreciate the 1800diapers information. I sent some diapers and formula just now!

Keep in mind shipping consumables is also a nightmare. Better to send money and let the people on the ground allocate it. There is nothing as personal as DONATING BLOOD!!!!!!!
