Could someone give me info on whether I need to be carefull of a pending points rental. The owner said that he cannot arrange for our airport transport because he is not a member of Disney. How can he be a DVC owner then? I believe that I had read a post that says the owner must arrange for the airport shuttle and dinning plans.

If you are renting points from a DVC owner then yes he/she has to be the one to arrange your Magical Express. WDW will send the tags and info directly to you AFTER the member request and gives all your flight info to Members Services. I have done this for people I have rented to many times

Just to let you know - The member also needs to add to your ressie PRIOR to your check in if you want the DDP - that cost is then paid directly to the resort upon check in

Something's not right here. Did you find this owner through the Rent/Trade board here on the DIS, or somewhere else?

By default, any owner is a member of the Disney Vacation Club. He's the one who can, and needs to, make the DME reservation for you.

My take on this is that either you misunderstood what he said (which doesn't sound likely) OR the person you're talking to has no clue what they are doing.

If you recheck with this person and they tell you they really cannot make DME arrangements for you, I'd want to know WHY. As others have stated, the owner not only CAN make those arrangements, only the owner can make them. If they are renting from an account owned by someone else, I'd say, "Thanks for your time" and get someone else to rent from.

If they say they made a mistake, and they found out they can, in fact, make DME arrangements for you, I'd get someone else to rent from. Why? Because they don't know what they're doing and their next mistake could be a very costly one for you.

Did you rent from a DVC owner? From your description, it sounds like you may have rented an RCI exchange week. If so, this is against RCI rules, and you'll be lucky of the exchange isn't cancelled.

If you rented from a DVC owner, then yes, the owner must call Member Services to set up Magical Express and any desired Dining Plan.

Sounds pretty fishy to me...I would talk to your contact again and request further explanation as to why he doesn't think he can book DME? As for the dining plans, once the owner adds DDP to the ressie, YOU can then call Disney Dining and make your reservations at restaurants of your choosing. They will need your reservation number, so make sure to get that from the owner. Good luck! :goodvibes

Is this new? Dining has never needed my reservation number to make ADR before, they simply linked them to my home phone number. Is this part of the system upgrade?

Yes, this is new (must be the new system). I just called last week to make ressie's for our upcoming May trip. I did not have my reservation number handy, couldn't find it, and the CM told me she absolutely could not make the ADR's without it. :confused3 She finally had to put me on hold and call DVC to get the number in order for us to continue. I had always just used my phone number in advance as well! Another new thing was that they didn't give me each individual ADR confirmation number until the end of making all the ADR's. They said they put all the ADR's in my "cart" and then will tell me all the numbers at the end. Interesting!

This seems strange since many off site guests as well as locals call to make ADR's too.
